Never say never, but getting Congress to agree to monthly stimulus payments appears to be a long shot.
There is currently a Change.org petition calling for Congress to pass a bill that would send a monthly $2,000 check to every eligible adult. In addition, families with children would receive an extra $1,000 per child in their bank accounts. For a family of four with two adults and two children at home, that’s $6,000 per month.
As of Sunday morning, the petition was nearing 3 million signatures. If they reach that number, Change.org reports that it will be one of their most popular petitions ever.
Timeline For $2000 Stimulus Check
The decision about whether or not to increase payments to $2,000 hasnt been made yet. The initial payment of $600 per qualified individual will start hitting peoples bank accounts this week, according to Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin. If the increase to $2,000 is approved, the additional funds will be sent at that time.
While many legislators are pushing for immediate action to increase payments, Senator McConnell hasnt specified how he intends to address President Trumps additional demands before voting on the $2,000 stimulus check.

Gov. Tom Wolf was in West View, Pa. recently where he urged the Republican-led General Assembly to pass legislation that would send $2,000 stimulus checks to many Pennsylvanians making $80,000 or less.
Wolf made a $1.7 billion proposal in February, which includes the direct payments, but currently, Pennslyvania is just sitting on a $2 billion part of the American Rescue Plan.
Im talking about $2 billion thats sitting in a checking account out in Harrisburg that if we dont use it by the end of 2024, we have to send it back to Washington. Do you want to do that? I dont, Wolf said, according to CBS Pittsburgh.
Wolf also said the stimulus checks would help with rising inflation.
Wolf previous said in a statement, Pennsylvanians should not have to choose between paying for utilities or groceries, childcare or gas. We have the opportunity and the means to ensure theyre not struggling, to ensure their success. Im asking the General Assembly to unite across aisles on this for the sake of every Pennsylvanian for when they succeed, our commonwealth succeeds. Lets get this money out of our coffers and into the pockets of Pennsylvanians.

$2000 In Free Money For Pennsylvanians
The cost of everything from gas to groceries is rising, and for Pennsylvanians living paycheck to paycheck that can mean painful decisions,Gov. Wolf said, according to a news release from his office. Pennsylvanians deserve to be supported and the opportunity to thrive. Yet my Republican colleagues are sitting on more than $2 billion of support that will need to be returned to the federal government if they dont pass a plan.
This has come about because the state is apparently sitting on more than $2 billion in federal American Rescue Plan dollars. Money, more specifically, that remains uncommitted for now. Gov. Wolfs proposal taps $500 million of that funding to send out the free money to state residents.
Its part of an overall $1.7 billion proposal from the governor that includes $225 million in support for small businesses. Plus $204 million for direct property tax relief, $325 million for Pennsylvanias healthcare system, and $450 million to invest in conservation, preservation, and revitalization of Pennsylvania communities.
Importantly: If Pennsylvania doesnt make a decision on spending the Rescue Plan money by December 31, 2024? The funds will return to the federal government.
Are We Getting A New Stimulus Check

Weve laid out in multiple posts just who is getting new ones. There are plenty of people who are getting new stimulus checks. But remember, which ones are we really counting as full ones or which ones are child tax credits? Also, states are dishing out money to specific workers as well. If youre a teacher in Michigan who worked in the school last year, youre getting money and so forth.
For the largest city in the world, New York City is putting forth a plan to put its COVID-related funds to good use. $65 million is going to the taxicab industry. 1,8000 New York-based artists could be receiving a one-time, $5,000 grant. That will come by the end of this month. New York City received $6 billion in COVID federal aid money. The money will also be sent trying to tackle the homelessness crisis in the city. Plus, money will be allocated to vaccine distributions.

Pennsylvanians Need Our Support Even More Today
Earlier this month Gov. Wolf was joined by Representative Patty Kim in Harrisburg to call on GOP state lawmakers to pass the PA Opportunity Program to help Pennsylvanians burdened by rising prices. A lot has changed since then, from inflation to price increases to a war in Ukraine. Pennsylvanians need our support even more today than they did in February, Gov. Wolf said.
The governor has touted his plan as a way to help workers and families still reeling from financial hardship caused by the pandemic. The direct payments would boost household income for many who are still covering pandemic-related costs, stabilizing their budgets, and rebuilding their savings.
The funds would give much-needed relief to cover expensive childcare and household expenses. Additionally, provide Pennsylvanians opportunities to complete educational and training courses to strengthen their skills and increase incomeall leading to a better quality of life.
Gov. Wolf has previously said that residents should not have to choose between paying for utilities or groceries, childcare or gas. We have the opportunity and the means to ensure theyre not struggling, to ensure their success.

If you have not received all or some portion of your Economic Impact Payments by the deadlines above, you will have to file a 2020 tax return and claim these amounts. More Stimulus Checks May Be Coming
If some Senate Democrats get their way, more stimulus checks and enhanced unemployment insurance may be coming. In the coming weeks, a group of Senate Democrats, including Sen. Bernie Sanders and Sen. Elizabeth Warren , will send a letter to urge Biden to support recurring stimulus checks until the Covid-19 pandemic is over.
We urge you to include recurring direct payments and automatic unemployment insurance extensions tied to economic conditions in your Build Back Better long-term economic plan, the senators write. This crisis is far from over, and families deserve certainty that they can put food on the table and keep a roof over their heads. Families should not be at the mercy of constantly-shifting legislative timelines and ad hoc solutions.
While the letter doesnt specify a dollar amount or frequency of the stimulus checks, some of the senators previously supported $2,000 stimulus checks every month for the duration of the Covid-19 pandemic. . Will Congress renew this policy proposal? Supporters say stimulus checks and unemployment insurance are essential tools to lift people out of poverty. According to an Urban Institute study cited in the letter:
- another one-time $1,200 stimulus check plus enhanced unemployment insurance and other assistance could keep 12 million people out of poverty and
- a second direct payment could keep another 6.3 million people above the poverty line.

Trump Has Put Mcconnell In An Uncomfortable Position And Provided Democrats With A Huge Opportunity
McConnell’s obstinance on the $2,000 checks has offered Democrats an ideal messaging opportunity ahead of Georgia’s Senate runoff election. And by supporting the bigger checks, Trump has put McConnell between rock and a hard place.
Many economists have argued that additional aid to Americans can offer a boost to the US economic recovery, after the coronavirus pandemic forced millions of people out of their jobs and with unemployment claims still rising each week. Similarly, most Americans are hugely in favor of stimulus checks and prefer a bigger size, according to a recent poll conducted by Insider, which showed that both Democrats and Republicans overwhelmingly support direct payments worth more than $600.
The GOP leader is denying more assistance to Americans at a time when they’re desperately in need, and defying a president who is extremely popular with Republican voters – a week before an election that will determine if he remains at the helm of the Senate.

Senate Democrats slammed the GOP for resisting sending more money to Americans while unequivocally embracing $741 billion for the National Defense Authorization Act, an annual spending bill passed by the House and Senate earlier this month.
“My Republican colleagues seem more interested in funding defense than funding the defenseless,” Sen. Ed Markey of Massachussetts said.
“Do we turn our backs on struggling working families or do we respond to their pain?” Sanders said on Tuesday.
Another Stimulus Check Gov Wolf Pushes Plan That Would Send $2000 To Some Pennsylvanians
HARRISBURG, Pa. Gov. Tom Wolf is for the American Rescue Plan Act-funded $500 million PA Opportunity Program, which would include $2,000 checks sent to Pennsylvanians.
Pennsylvanians should not have to choose between paying for utilities or groceries, childcare or gas. We have the opportunity and the means to ensure theyre not struggling, to ensure their success, said Gov. Wolf. Im asking the General Assembly to unite across aisles on this for the sake of every Pennsylvanian for when they succeed, our commonwealth succeeds. The state is sitting on more than $2 billion in federal ARPA dollars that will be sent back to the federal government by Dec. 31, 2024 if it is not used, according to Wolfs office.
Last week, Wolfs office said that Democratic leaders in the Senate and House had committed to introducing bills to support the program.
Under the program, Pennsylvania households with an income of $80,000 or less would receive direct payments of up to $2,000.
Wolfs $1.7 billion proposal also includes $225 million in support for small businesses, $204 million for direct property tax relief, $325 million for Pennsylvanias healthcare system, and $450 million to invest in conservation, preservation, and revitalization of Pennsylvania communities.

While Campaigning In Georgia On Monday President

Is a third stimulus check in your future? And, if so, how much would you get? According to President-Elect Joe Biden, if Democrats Jon Ossoff and Rev. Raphael Warnock beat incumbent Republican Sens. Kelly Loeffler and David Perdue in Tuesday’s Georgia runoff elections, then “$2,000 checks will go out the door.” This statement, made during a campaign event for Ossoff and Warnock in Atlanta on Monday, is the strongest indication yet that Biden will push for a third stimulus check after his inauguration.
It was just a few days ago that Senate Republicans blocked a vote for a House-passed bill that would have increased second-round stimulus checks from $600 to $2,000. The CASH Act would have also bumped the extra per-child second stimulus check amount from $600 to $2,000, and allowed the extra payment for any dependent, regardless of age, rather than just for children age 16 or younger.
Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell called the CASH Act “socialism for the rich” because it would have authorized payments to wealthy people who weren’t impacted by the pandemic, instead of only targeting people in need. Since Republicans currently control the Senate, he was able to avoid a vote on the bill, which was passed last week by the House. Without a vote, the CASH Act expired at noon on Sunday when the 116th Congress ended.

Fourth Stimulus Check: Will Congress Say Yes To Another Payment
Its now been two months since the third round of COVID stimulus checks began hitting Americans bank accounts. Thats a long time to get by on $1,400, especially if youre still out of work because of the pandemic.
Milliions of Americans say the government needs to continue providing direct relief payments until the crisis is no longer throttling the economy. That group includes everyday folks and some of the countrys most influential politicians.
The White House says stimulus checks are not free, and that its up to Congress to decide whether to provide more of them. Will House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and her fellow lawmakers give you a fourth stimulus check? Heres what we know.
Stimulus Check Update: How Some Families Stand To Receive $2000 Checks
As inflation stands at a four-decade high, families across the country continue to feel the burden, leading some governors and other lawmakers to push for new stimulus check payments or rebates in a bid to ease the financial toll on Americans.
At the outset of the COVID-19 pandemic, Congress came together in March 2020 to provide the majority of Americans with one-time stimulus checks of up to $1,200 through the bipartisan CARES Act. Then in December 2020, Congress again approved bipartisan legislation that doled out additional checks of up to $600 to most U.S. citizens. After President Joe Biden took office, Democrats pushed through the American Rescue Plan without any Republican support. That bill included an additional $1,400 direct payment.
The stimulus checks proved enormously popular, with millions of Americans turning to online petitions to demand further direct payments. While the federal government looks unlikely to approve new rounds of checks in the near term, some state leaders have launched their own initiatives as families feel the crunch of inflation hitting their pocketbooks.
Pennsylvania Governor Tom Wolf, a Democrat, this week called for $2,000 stimulus checks to be sent out to many state residents.
The governor sees the stimulus check proposal as a short-term solution to help Pennsylvanians now, as inflation impacts their daily lives.

Heres What Needs To Happen For Everyone To Get $2000 Stimulus Checks
- The House of Representatives passed a bill to increase stimulus checks from $600 to $2,000 on Monday by a vote of 275-134, and now the bill will head to the Senate.
- Its unclear if Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell will bring the bill to the floor for a vote, but Sen. Bernie Sanders will try to force him to do so by delaying a veto override vote for the National Defense Authorization Act until January 1st, forcing senators to stay through the New Years break.
- The CASH Act needs 60 votes to pass the Senate and make its way to President Trumps desk.
In a confounding turn of events, President Trump signed the $2.3 trillion spending and stimulus package on Sunday night after needlessly delaying its passage by several days, thus temporarily suspending vital unemployment benefits for millions of Americans. He did so after Congress promised that it would address his concerns, one of which would involve boosting the stimulus checks included in the bill from $600 to $2,000.
Senate Democratic Leader Chuck Schumer after the House vote:
But the only way well ever know for sure is if McConnell allows a vote.
