Child Tax Credit Is Of Particular Importance On Equal Pay Day

24 March is Equal Pay Day, the annual date marking the inequalities that exist between men and women in the workplace. In recognising the day, Senator Sherrod Brown has cited some of the provisions from the new stimulus bill which will aid working women across the country.

Chief among them is the reformed Child Tax Credit, which recognises the extraordinary service that women provide in caregiving that is not usually met with any financial reward. The new programme would see a monthly payment worth up to $300 sent to eligible families to help cover the costs of childcare.

Child Tax Credits Provide Much

California Rep Ted Lieu has praised the stimulus bill for extending direct support for families in the form of Child Tax Credits and childcare provision, amongst other programmes. His comments come on Equal Pay Day, the annual date which brings awareness to the pay disparity between male and female workers.

In many cases, women are counted on for childcare provision but are rarely paid for the service and suffer in the workplace due to the time taken away from work. It is hoped that the additional financial support may allow families to find other solutions, and improve the employment options available for mothers.

The Evolution Of The Golden State Stimulus

Stimulus Check Deadline Tomorrow

By February, with the states revenue estimates swelling, the Legislature negotiated and approved an even more generous $3.8 billion stimulus payment plan that included extra aid for undocumented workers.

Under this plan, the state also sent $600 payments to certain Californians living in poverty regardless of whether they work. That included very low-income families with children enrolled in CalWorks, as well as recipients of SSI or the states alternative for some immigrant groups, known as the Cash Assistance Program for Immigrants.

It took Charis Hill several days of searching online and contacting their state assemblymember to discover that they did not automatically qualify. A Sacramento-based disability activist who lives on $1,027 per month from SSDI, Hill eventually deduced that they could qualify not because they were disabled, but rather because they had done freelance writing and speaking last year.

Hill would have to file taxes, something they hadnt done in years because their earned income is far below the filing requirement. They decided it was worth it. Their expenses have jumped during the pandemic, especially as theyve opted for grocery deliveries instead of shopping in stores because they are immunocompromised.

Its really hard to see and read coverage of Newsom touting how great this is for middle-class people, said Hill, when people with disabilities are some of the most impoverished people in the whole country.

Biden Eyes Child Tax Credit Extension Amid Bold New Agenda

Reports suggest that President Biden is hoping to follow up the stimulus bill with generational changes to the United States as he looks to take advantage of his positive poll rating and unified power in Congress.

Despite not receiving a single vote from Republicans in Congress, the American Rescue Plan got an approval rating of around 72% in recent polling and suggests that there is an appetite for more progressive policies. He is believed to be considering making the new Child Tax Credit programme, which has not even been introduced yet, permanent.

Presidential historian Michael Beschloss told Axios that Biden’s overall plan could echo that of former presidents FDR and LBJ “in terms of transforming the country in important ways in a short time.”

What If The Irs Didnt Send Me The Full Amount For The First Or Second Stimulus Payment

According to the IRS, people who receive Social Security retirement, SSDI, SSI and Railroad Retirement benefits, as well as Veterans Affairs beneficiaries, were automatically eligible for the first two stimulus payments. If you receive these federal benefits as your only form of income, you werent required to file a federal income tax return in 2018 or 2019. Under the CARES Act, you should have received a stimulus check automatically.

If that money didnt arrive, its possible you might have had a payment garnished for child support or funds diverted to pay a specific kind of creditor, but the rules changed with the second check. However, an IRS error could also be a potential culprit or the IRS may have needed more information about your eligibility.

To receive your money now, you need to claim the additional amount as part of tax season 2020, using the Recovery Rebate Credit. Even if you dont usually file taxes, youll have to file to get the funds. The deadline for filing your 2020 taxes was extended to May 17, 2021.

In some cases if you received a letter from the IRS confirming that your payment was sent, but you never actually got the money, for instance you may need to contact the IRS to request a payment trace.

The IRS says you can create and then check an IRS account to see more information about your eligibility around the first two stimulus payments.

Impact Of Not Filing A Tax Return On Your Ability To Receive A Stimulus Check

Your stimulus check could arrive TOMORROW as millions of payments will ...

If your only source of income is federal disability benefits, there is a good chance you did not file a personal income tax return in recent years. This is because individuals are not required to file typical tax returns when their income levels are below a specific threshold and/or rely exclusively on federal benefits. According to the CARES Act , individuals who relied exclusively on disability benefits would still be able to get a stimulus check, even if they did not file a tax return in recent years.

Injured Spouse Claim And Spousal Claims

The IRS also stated that If you are married filing jointly and you filed an injured spouse claim with your 2019 tax return , half of the total payment will be sent to each spouse and your spouses stimulus check payment will be offset only for past-due child support. There is no need to file another injured spouse claim for the payment. I have received dozens of comments on this this, so hopefully this answers the questions many have had based on official IRS guidance.

Note that if you were current with your child support payments at the time of the stimulus eligibility determination but fell behind afterwards due to a COVID-19 related job loss, you would still be eligible to get the full stimulus payment.

Updating Direct Deposit Information

This question has come up a lot in the hundreds of comments to this article. Third $1400 Stimulus Check Will Hit Bank Accounts Today For Millions On Social Security Benefits

  • 13:48, 6 Apr 2021

MILLIONS of Social Security beneficiaries should receive their third stimulus checks TODAY after weeks of waiting.

While more than 130 million Americans have already received their $1,400 checks, around 30 million Social Security Income recipients, who are not required to file taxes, are expected to receive their funds today.

The wait for the potentially vital injections of federal cash will finally be over for some, with the IRS confirming the payments meaning an estimated 30million Americans could receive their check today.

News of the pay date was first shared by White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki in a news conference last week.

” on track to send those payments out this weekend, Psaki said.

The majority of people should see them in their bank accounts on Wednesday, April 7, which is obviously a very positive step forward.

Starting last Friday, the government agency began processing payments to federal beneficiaries who didn’t file a 2020 or 2019 tax return and didn’t use the IRS’ non-filers tool last year.

The payments will go to Social Security retirement, survivor or disability, Supplementary Security Income and Railroad Retirement Board beneficiaries.

Ahead of Wednesday’s payment date, the IRS said its employees are “working tirelessly to once again deliver Economic Impact Payments to the nations taxpayers as quickly as possible.”

But it took until March 25 for the SSA to provide the Internal Revenue Service with the paperwork.

Another Child Tax Credit Expansion Could Be On The Way

One of the most notable inclusions in the American Rescue Plan was a complete overhaul of the Child Tax Credit programme to provide monthly payments worth up to $300 for eligible families. The current legislation will provide funding for 12 months of the new support, but there are hopes that it could be made permanent if it proves successful.

Representative Rosa DeLauro, a Connecticut Democrat who has been a consistant campaigner for a child allowance said recently: The crystallization of the child tax credit and what it can do to lift children and families out of poverty is extraordinary. Weve been talking about this for years.

Although the IRS is still in the process of distributing the $1,400 stimulus checks, some lawmakers are already discussing the possibility of another round of direct payments. Progressive are keen on a fourth stimulus check, which could well see recurring monthly payments provided for eligible Americans.

A letter penned by Sens Elizabeth Warren and Bernie Sanders called for recurring stimulus checks to be included in future legislation: “We urge you to include recurring direct payments and automatic unemployment insurance extensions tied to economic conditions in your Build Back Better long-term economic plan.

Here’s what we know so far about the Fourth Stimulus Check
