California To Send Golden State Stimulus Payments This Week
California residents looking for another Golden State Stimulus payment wont have to wait long: The second round of payments will be issued at least by the end of the week.
As with the first round of payments, the second round will be issued in two-week increments, SFGate reported Tuesday, citing comments from a representative of the California Tax Franchise Board.
Checks will come via direct deposit or paper check whichever was chosen on the latest tax return.
If you want to know how much youll get, the Tax Franchise Board website has a tool you can use to help to determine the amount. The Board also said that most Californians who qualify dont need to do anything to receive the stimulus payment other than file their 2020 tax returns. Anyone who filed a return after Aug. 20 will have to wait for their stimulus payment as there is a 45-day waiting period in effect, according to ABC News.
Here are some likely payment scenarios, as outlined by SFGate:
-
If you qualified for the first Golden State Stimulus payment and claimed a credit of one or more dependents, youll typically receive $500.
-
If you didnt qualify for that stimulus payment and didnt claim a credit of one or more dependents, youll receive $600.
-
If you did not qualify for that stimulus and claimed one or more dependents, you could receive $1,100.
-
If you qualified for the stimulus and didnt claim a credit for one or more dependents, you dont qualify for the second stimulus payment.

Senior Stimulus: Which Social Security Recipients Will Still Receive A Golden State Payment

Tax Brackets 101: Here Are the Basics You Need To Understand
California News Times reported that nearly 4.5 million checks have been distributed to Californians, about half of the payments expected to go out under this program. The original program was aimed at low-income California residents, but was expanded in July to cover those who make $75,000 or less a year, according to the California Franchise Tax Board.
Californians who receive Social Security checks are eligible for Golden State Stimulus II payments up to $1,100 if they meet the requirements and report other sources of income with an adjusted gross income between $1 and up to $75,000 on their 2020 tax return. The state also noted that when calculating your AGI, Social Security is not included.
Other requirements for Social Security recipients who reported income between $1 and $75,000 on their 2020 tax return include:
-
Lived in California for most of last year
-
Still live in California
-
Have a Social Security number or an Individual Taxpayer Identification number
-
Cant be claimed as a dependent by another taxpayer
So who doesnt qualify?
Do I Qualify For A $600 Or $1100 Payment

The Golden State Stimulus II payments are different from the Golden State Stimulus I payments that went out earlier this year. GSS I payments — a one-time check of either $600 or $1,200 — went out to those who typically earned less than $30,000 and received the state’s Earned Income Tax Credit, or CalEITC, or those who filed their taxes with an Individual Tax Identification Number, or ITIN.
GSS II has been expanded so that more Californians qualify. You’re eligible for a $600 payment if you’ve been a California resident for more than half of the 2020 tax year . You need to also meet the following requirements:
- Your California Adjusted Gross Income, or CA AGI, was $75,000 or less for the 2020 tax year.
- You cannot be claimed as a dependent by another taxpayer.
If you don’t qualify for GSS II, see if you might be eligible for GSS I. Californians who received the earlier GSS I payment could be eligible for a GSS II check for $500 or $1,000 only if they claimed a qualifying child or relative as a dependent on their 2020 tax return.
Besides those who already received GSS I and have no dependents, there are others who are excluded from GSS II payments. Californians whose income is exclusively from other benefits, like Social Security, CalWorks, unemployment or state disability, do not qualify.
