Issues With My Second Dependent Stimulus Check Payments
Like the first round of dependent payments , many readers are reporting similar issues with the IRS payments for the second child dependent stimulus payment, despite having received their adult stimulus checks. At this point it is best to wait for the IRS to finish processing, especially if you had issues with the first round of payments. It is highly likely you will also get your dependent stimulus check later after the first round of standard payments is done in early to mid-January 2021. If you dont have your payment you will need to check state on the IRS website, call their call center or just file for this when you submit your 2020 tax return.

What Type Of Credit Is The Stimulus Payment
The third stimulus payment is actually an advance payment of a refundable credit that will be calculated with your 2021 taxes .
If you made too much money in 2020 to get the full stimulus payment, but you end up making less income in 2021 than you did in prior years, you could get a stimulus payment as a rebate in 2022. Luckily, if you make more money in 2021 than you did in 2020, you will not have to pay back part or all of your stimulus payment in 2022.

$1100 In Extra Stimulus For Parents With Babies Born In 2020
For parents who had babies this year, and who wont be listed in 2019 tax returns, they will need to file a return to claim their dependent payments. The good news is that all babies born this year will be eligible for both the original $500 dependent stimulus and the second $600 one being paid in 2021. This makes a total of $1,100 that parents could get for their newborns born in 2020. You will still need to meet income qualification thresholds for both dependent stimulus payment and will need to file a tax return or for non-filers wait till the IRS opens its GMP tool to allow you to add dependents born this year.
The inclusion of the one-time stimulus payment however has also meant a cut in extra unemployment benefits that are also part of the overall package. You can also see more on this topic in the $600 Dependent Stimulus Check Video.

Adult Dependents Are Eligible For The $1400 Stimulus Check
The Center on Budget and Policy Priorities , a nonpartisan research and policy institute, estimates as many as 15 million older children and adult dependents were left out in receiving previous stimulus payments under the CARES Act. These groups are now eligible for third-round checks.
Its important to note, however, that the amount that adult dependents will receive depends on the income of the taxpayer claiming them on their taxes. The phaseout range starts at $75,000 for single individuals, $150,000 for married couples filing jointly, and $112,500 for heads of households, meaning the payment amount will drop proportionately to the amount they make above these thresholds.
If the income is at or above the following thresholds, taxpayersand their dependentswont be eligible for stimulus payments:
- Single filers: $80,000
- Head of household: $120,000
Who Isn’t Eligible For The Third Stimulus Check
Besides high-income earners, the only other individuals who aren’t eligible for the stimulus check are those without Social Security numbers , those who are claimed as dependents on someone else’s tax return, and possibly those who are incarcerated.
This time, an individual who is married to an immigrant without a Social Security number can get the stimulus check, though the spouse with only an individual taxpayer identification number still will not receive a check.
What about children? Parents should get an extra $1,400 for each child that they claimed as a dependent on their 2020 tax return. This is a change from the first and second stimulus checks, where only children who hadn’t reached age 17 could qualify for the stimulus money.
What about people who don’t pay taxes? There is no requirement that you paid taxes or filed a tax return in 2020. This means that even those people whose only source of income is Social Security retirement or disability benefits, Supplemental Security Income , or veterans benefits are eligible for the $1,400 payment.
Those who receive monthly Social Security benefits, Railroad Retirement benefits, SSI, or veterans benefits should automatically receive the stimulus check whether they filed tax returns or not.
What about people receiving unemployment? Those collecting unemployment benefits are eligible to receive the stimulus payment.

It also included up to $600 payments for each qualifying child under age 17.
Q. Did I get a second stimulus check if Im an American living overseas?
A. Yes, expats qualified for the second stimulus check. You qualified if you fall within the income threshold, have a social security number, and file taxes even if you live overseas.
Q. Did I need to sign up for it or sign off on it?
A. Most people didnt need to do anything to receive the second stimulus because the IRS based the payments off of 2019 tax returns. If you didnt file a 2019 return, you may be able to claim it on your 2020 tax return as a Recovery Rebate Credit.

How Do I Change/update My Bank Information For Direct Deposit
The IRS has a very tight timeline to deliver the second stimulus. If they do not have your current direct deposit information on file for instance, if you changed banks this year your payment may be returned to the IRS by legal requirement. In this case, the IRS cannot reissue your payment by mailed check. Instead, you will need to file a 2020 tax return and claim the Recovery Rebate Credit.
Note: In some cases, people who received a debit card last time might receive a paper check this time, and some people who received a check last time could receive a debit card. Information about using the Economic Impact Payment card can be found here.
When You’ll Receive Your Payment
The final date to qualify has already passed for filers other than those with pending ITINs. If you have already filed, you don’t have to do anything.
If you have not received a payment by now, you will most likely receive a paper check. In addition, if you did not receive a refund with your tax return or owed money at the time of filing, you will receive a paper check.
Payments will go out based on the last 3 digits of the ZIP code on your 2020 tax return. Some payments may need extra time to process for accuracy and completeness. If your tax return is processed during or after the date of your scheduled ZIP code payment, allow up to 60 days after your return has processed. Please allow up to three weeks to receive the paper checks once they are mailed out.

If You Didn’t Receive The First Two Stimulus Checks You May Be Able To Claim Them At Tax Time
If you didn’t receive one of the previous two payments, you may be able to claim missed stimulus checks on your 2020 taxes.
Insider’s Tanza Loudenback reports that there are a number of reasons someone may not have been eligible at the time, but would be now. For people who were claimed as dependents on 2019 taxes and won’t be in 2020, like college students who graduated last year, it’s possible to claim the $1,800 on your 2020 taxes with the Recovery Rebate Credit.
For anyone who isn’t receiving a majority of support and being claimed as a dependent by parents or relatives, that money could come with your 2020 tax refund.
People Without A Social Security Number
Generally, you must have a Social Security number to get a stimulus check. To get the extra $1,400 for a dependent, the dependent must also have a Social Security number. If they don’t, then you probably won’t get the addition amount.
There are, however, a few exceptions to this rule. First, an adopted child can have an adoption taxpayer identification number instead of a Social Security number. Second, for married members of the U.S. armed forces, only one spouse needs to have a Social Security number. And, third, if your spouse doesn’t have a Social Security number, you can still receive a third stimulus check, including any extra money for dependents, if you have a Social Security number.

What Does Trump Want For Checks
Trump posted a video to Twitter calling for the $600 per individual or $1,200 per couple to be increased to $2,000 and $4,000, respectively. He called on Congress to send him an amended bill, something Democrats immediately welcomed. In a rare Christmas Eve session of the House, Republicans blocked a move to increase the stimulus check size to $2,000.
The Democratic-led House supports the larger checks and voted overwhelmingly Monday to increase COVID-19 relief checks to $2,000, but Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell on Tuesday blocked Democrats push for bigger $2,000 COVID-19 relief checks. He said the chamber would begin a process to address the issue.

Nearly all families with kids qualify. Some income limitations apply. For example, only couples making less than $150,000 and single parents making less than $112,500 will qualify for the additional 2021 Child Tax Credit amounts. Families with high incomes may receive a smaller credit or may not qualify for any credit at all. When Will A Second Stimulus Check Be Issued

Payments are automatically sent to:
- Eligible individuals who filed a 2019 tax return.
- Social Security recipients, including Social Security Disability Insurance , railroad retirees, and Supplemental Security and Veteran Affairs beneficiaries.
- Individuals who successfully registered for the first stimulus check online using the IRS Non-Filers tool or who submitted a simplified tax return that has been processed by the IRS
