Why Am I Not Getting The Stimulus Check

Fourth Stimulus Check Possible Timeline

Stimulus checks: Why are you getting ‘Payment Status Not Available’?

Right now, there is no fourth stimulus check timeline or fourth stimulus check release date. Until legislation is in motion, we can’t say how soon more relief money might arrive. We can’t say whether more relief money is coming, at all.

That said, the third stimulus check timeline happened rather quickly following Biden’s inauguration Jan. 20. It only took a few weeks for Congress to debate his American Rescue Plan. Once the president signed the bill on March 11, $1,400 checks were put in motion.

The IRS can begin sending out possible fourth stimulus checks in the same manner it sent the previous stimulus payments. Since the framework is already in place, Americans could begin receiving the fourth stimulus checks about two weeks after a relief bill allowing another round of direct payments is approved.

Noncitizens Need To Meet These Marriage Requirements To Qualify

If you’re considered a noncitizen, you may or may not get a stimulus check, depending on a couple of factors. Under the new bill, mixed-status households with at least one family member who has a Social Security number could be eligible for the third stimulus check, assuming they meet the other requirements, including the income limits.

Youre Getting A Paper Check

Why is my stimulus payment not in my bank account yet? If youre asking this question, a simple answer could be because youre due to get a paper check through the mail. Not everyone will get their stimulus payments through direct deposit so you have to watch out for the stimulus check envelope that may be landing in your mailbox very soon.

How Do I Get It

  • The stimulus payments will be processed by the IRS.
  • If you have already filed a 2019 tax return, you will get the stimulus payment automatically. You will receive it in the same form as your tax refund. • If you entered your information into the IRS non-filer portal earlier in 2020, you will get the stimulus payment automatically. You do not have to do anything.
  • If you receive one of the following benefits, you will get the stimulus payment automatically. You do not have to do anything.

  • Note: Instead of a check, some people will get a debit card mailed to them in a white envelope. The envelope has the U.S. Department of the Treasury seal on it. See this factsheet to learn what the debit card looks like and how to use it.

Why am I getting this stimulus letter from the President ...

The rampant spread of COVID-19 in the United States has caused a serious financial impact on the U.S. economy, as the stock market plunged amidst job losses and closed businesses. A glimmer of hope, though, has been the recent passing of legislation to help boost the American economy. The stimulus checks, which are part of a $2 trillion CARES act relief package, are set to help Americans who are unemployed or losing income due to COVID-19. Americans are receiving a $1,200 direct deposit or check from the IRS, assuming you meet the eligibility criteria.

Even though millions of Americans have received their payment, there are still many who have yet to see their stimulus check. If you find yourself in this category, there could be many reasons why you dont have your check. We wanted to point out some common reasons why your check may not have arrived and what you can do to make sure it gets to you safely!

Tax Refund 202: Why The Irs Might Send You A Smaller Refund

Getting a tax refund is an eagerly anticipated event, with 3 of 4 taxpayers typically receiving a check from the IRS after they file their tax return. But this year, tax experts are warning that some people may receive a smaller check than normal.

The biggest issue that could impact tax refunds is the enhanced Child Tax Credit, tax specialists note. The IRS hasn’t yet said when it will start accepting tax returns, but typically it opens for new filings toward the end of January.

People receive tax refunds if they’ve paid more to the IRS throughout the year than they owe. The tax agency then cuts a check for the difference.

Some taxpayers can also claim tax credits, which are a dollar-for-dollar reduction in the amount you’ll owe to the IRS. These credits are typically aimed at specific groups of taxpayers, such as parents, students or low-income workers.

That’s where the Child Tax Credit comes in.

Under President Joe Biden’s American Rescue Plan, the Child Tax Credit was expanded from $2,000 per child to $3,600 for each kid under age 6 and $3,000 for those between 6 to 17. But despite the bigger tax credit, the program could provide a hit to some parents’ tax refunds when they file their returns.

In other words, instead of getting a tax credit for $2,000 as in prior years for their children, parents will claim $1,500 or $1,800 per kid, depending on the age of their child.

    Residents Of Certain States

Eligible residents of specific states could also be on track for another payment in December. Maine, California, Maryland, and Florida are all planning on sending money to some people next month.

    • Maine will be distributing $285 payments to half-a-million households, including eligible individuals with an adjusted gross income below $75,000 for single tax filers and $150,000 for married joint filers. These payments started going out on Nov. 15 and will continue into December.
    • California is sending payments valued at $500 to $1,100 under the Golden State Stimulus II Program. These payments could be available for eligible individuals with incomes under $75,000 who were residents of the state for more than half of 2020 and who are still residents at the time the payment is issued.
    • Florida will be distributing stimulus payments in December for first responders and educators who work with students in Pre-K through 12th grade. Around 175,000 teachers and 3,600 principals are eligible for payments of up to $1,000.

If you live in one of these states, you should check the specific eligibility rules for your location to see if you are one of the many Americans who will be getting additional stimulus funds during the last month of 2021.

Debt Collectors Have Taken Your Payment

The problem: Could it be your money was garnished by private debt collectors? The first check was susceptible to seizure of many varieties, including if you owed past-due child support payments. The latter wasn’t true for the second payment, except in cases where recipients didn’t get a check and need to claim a Recovery Rebate Credit on their taxes. For the third check, private debt collectors are able to confiscate your stimulus payment.

What to do: If you think there’s been a seizure or a mistake, you’ll need to start by reaching out to your bank or credit union. You may have a small window of time to put a hold on the seizure.

If you’ve moved, let the IRS and USPS know.

Payment Status Not Available: This message means you’re not getting a second stimulus payment

You should have already gotten your Stimulus Check. If you think you are eligible and you did not get a check for you or your dependents, you can still get the money by filing your 2020 taxes. You may be eligible for free tax preparation help from Maine’s CA$H Coalition. Look for information about help filing 2020 taxes in early 2021.

If you do not usually file a tax return and didn’t get your Stimulus Check, you may be able to file a tax return this year to get your Stimulus Check. You should check with a tax professional. You can call Pine Tree Legal Assistance.

Youre Getting An Eip Prepaid Debit Card

Another method that the IRS is using to pay off stimulus payments is through the issuance of debit cards. These debit cards, called Economic Impact Payment debit cards or EIP cards, will also be sent via mail. If you received a debit card during the second round of payment, it does not necessarily mean that youll also receive a debit card this time. You may get a direct deposit or a paper check. Your old prepaid debit card from the second round will also not be reloaded again, instead, you will get a new debit card if you are to receive the stimulus payment in this method.

How To Claim Your Missing $600 Or $1200 Payments

The stimulus checks are generally advance payments of a tax credit.

The 2020 tax returns now offer a section where you can claim the recovery rebate credit for either the first $1,200 stimulus check or the second $600 payment if that money is due to you line 30 of Forms 1040 or 1040-SR.

On that part of the return, filers can start with the amount of stimulus money they already received and calculate any more funds which they are due. That can be done either through a worksheet provided with the tax form or through tax preparation software.

Here are nine possible reasons your stimulus check hasn’t arrived with any of the payment waves the IRS has sent.

Third stimulus check delivery has been going on for weeks. What does it mean if your payment still hasn’t arrived? And what can you do about it?

The IRS sent out another wave of third stimulus checks this week — did you get yours? If not, there could be an issue holding up your $1,400 payment. Before you do anything, check the IRS tracker tool to see what it says. If it shows your stimulus check should’ve arrived days or even weeks ago, or it just doesn’t arrive at all, there’s likely a problem that needs to be addressed.

Make sure you’re triple-checking every piece of mail that comes to your house — that’s how your payment will arrive unless you receive SSI, SSDI or veterans benefits, or you’re expecting a “plus-up” payment. It’ll come in the mail as an EIP debit card or paper check, which you can track with the USPS. Also, double-check that you’re eligible and that you’re receiving the right amount — for instance, you should get more money if you had a baby, claim newly qualified dependents or are part of a mixed-citizenship status family.

My Stimulus Payment Was Too High

Some individuals whose income increased too much in 2019 were not eligible for a full stimulus payment, but they got one anyway since the IRS based the payment on their 2018 taxes. Those individuals will not have to pay back the payment.

In other cases, families were paid an extra $500 or $600 for children who were 17 or older . This could happen if the IRS took the number of children who qualified for the child tax credit in 2018 without updating children’s ages for 2019. But in other cases, it looks like the IRS took the number of dependents from a family’s 2018 tax return, without regard to their age. The IRS has said that those who received such overpayments will not have to pay them back.

When Should I Get My Payment

The IRS was given hard and fast deadlines to send the two rounds of Economic Impact Payments out to American families. The first round of payments had to be sent out by . The second round had to be sent out by .

What this means: If you have not received the first or second round of payments yet, then you will not be getting them in advance. The good news is that you can still do something to get these payments. Read below.
