When Will People Receive Their Direct Payments
With Congress passing the bill just days before the end of the year, checks definitely wont be distributed ahead of the holidays. On Monday, Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin said millions of Americans would begin to receive stimulus checks as early as next week. This is a faster timeline than the spring, when the IRS started to disburse checks within two weeks of congressional approval of the CARES Act. On an individual basis, the time it will take to receive a stimulus check depends on whether an individual or couple filed taxes in 2019.
- If an individual filed taxes during 2019, the IRS already has their information on file. The payment is expected to be delivered to their bank account in a matter of weeks. Mnuchin estimates the IRS could begin depositing 100 million checks on December 28.
- If the IRS does not have your bank information on file, the agency will send checks via mail. This process could take up to five months.
When Will Senate Vote On Stimulus
Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer said the Senate debate would start as soon as Wednesday night and predicted, Well have the votes we need to pass the bill.
Democrats are pushing the massive coronavirus relief measure through Congress under special rules that will let them avoid a Senate filibuster by Republicans, a tactic that Democrats would need an unattainable 60 votes to defeat.
House Majority Leader Steny Hoyer said he expects the Senate to approve the plan by Friday or Saturday.

Millions of Americans are now expecting to receive a second stimulus check. But if nothing shows up in your bank account or mailbox, it might be because you’re not eligible for a second payment. When the news first broke about the second round of stimulus checks, some people may have gotten the impression that everyone was entitled to one. Unfortunately, that’s just not the case.
Just as a second stimulus check was on the brink of passing into law, another complication arose: President Donald Trump did not like the $600 maximum, CNet cites. The president indicated Tuesday night he would not sign the $900 billion stimulus bill — which is attached to a more than trillion spending bill to find the government — if Congress does not amend the size of the check to a $2,000 per person limit.

“I am asking Congress to amend this bill and increase the ridiculously low $600 dollars to $2,000, or $4,000 for a couple,” Mr. Trump said in the recorded message, as cited by CBS News.
Mr. Trump’s pushback is raising new questions for millions of Americans who are awaiting the next round of checks.

Is Congress Talking About A Fourth Stimulus Check
There are no signs that lawmakers in Washington, D.C. are in serious discussions about a fourth direct payment stimulus check. While there have been calls by the public and from some lawmakers for recurring payments, there has been practically nothing in terms of action.
Emails and phone calls to the White House, Sen. Bernie Sanders, I-Vt., who is chair of the Senate Budget Committee, and Rep. John Yarmuth, D-Ky., chair of the House Budget Committee, asking if such payments are under discussion were not returned.
One pandemic-related stimulus that is being considered for an extension is the monthly advance child tax credit. It raised the previous tax credit from $2,000 at tax time to $3,000-$3,600 with the option of monthly payments. A one-year extension is part of the Build Back Better bill that passed the House. But Sen. Joe Manchin, D-W.V., announced Sunday he would not vote for it. With no Republicans on board, passage of the bill is doomed unless an alternative is found.
A group of Democrats sent a letter to Biden in back in May , but the letter did not get into specifics and nothing else came of it.
A change.org petition started by Denver restaurant owner Stephanie Bonin in 2020 called on Congress to pass regular checks of $2,000 for adults and $1,000 for kids for the duration of the pandemic crisis.
As of late December, the petition has reached nearly 3 million signatures.

Who Will Be Eligible For A $1400 Stimulus Check
As of right now, its unclear. Biden has indicated that he would be open to negotiating the income thresholdslikely making them lower to target individuals who need them the most and to reel in the overall price tag of his proposed $1.9 trillion stimulus proposal. If the income thresholds change, individuals who qualified previously but no longer do may be able to take advantage of other forms of economic relief, such as the extended eviction moratorium and extended student loan forbearance period.

What About Rental Evictions
The agreement extends a moratorium on renter evictions through Jan. 31.
The Trump administration, through an order from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, had already extended a previous eviction ban through the end of the year. The agency said the moratorium was needed to prevent renters from ending up in shelters or other crowded living conditions, which would put them at higher risk of contracting the coronavirus.
The new agreement simply extends that order. To be eligible, renters must have experienced a substantial loss of household income, a layoff or extraordinary out-of-pocket medical expenses, among several other conditions and they cant expect to earn more than $99,000 in 2020 .
Renters can use a form from the C.D.C.s website to attest to their eligibility more information on eligibility can be found here.

Will Dependents Get A Stimulus Check
According to the statement from Pelosi and Schumer, checks are worth up to $600 per adult and child, indicating that child dependents will again qualify for additional funds. In fact, the new stimulus package provides $100 more per child than under the CARES Act.
It has not yet been specified whether adults who can be claimed as dependents, such as college students, will also qualify for a check.
Can Creditors Take My Check
Can back taxes or child support be taken out of the checks? The stimulus payments are not taxable and are not subject to garnishment by the government for back taxes or student loan defaults. The same is true for past due child support payments or private debts–for the second and third stimulus checks.
Can my bank take my stimulus check? If your bank account is overdrawn because of overdrafts or outstanding fees, your bank may take part or all of your stimulus check to bring your account even. However, when the second stimulus check came out, many large banks stated that they would bring customers’ bank balances to zero, temporarily, so that customers could access their stimulus checks. This includes Bank of America, Wells Fargo, Citigroup, and JPMorgan Chase.

Is Any Action Needed By Social Security Beneficiaries Railroad Retirees And Those Receiving Veterans Benefits Who Are Not Typically Required To File A Tax Return
Most Social Security retirement and disability beneficiaries, railroad retirees and those receiving veterans benefits do not need take any action to receive a payment. Earlier this year, the IRS worked directly with the relevant federal agencies to obtain the information needed to send out the new payments the same way benefits for this group are normally paid. For eligible people in this group who didnt receive a payment for any reason, they can file a 2020 tax return.
Child Dependents Who Are 17 Years Old

The $900 billion stimulus package directs $600 to each child in a family as long as they are considered “qualifying children” under the IRS tax code for the Child Tax Credit. Unfortunately for parents of older teens, the tax code defines “qualifying children” as those who haven’t yet hit their 17th birthday.
In other words, the $600 will be directed to children ages 16 or younger.
The IRS will use people’s 2019 tax returns to determine their stimulus payments, which means that teens who hit their 17th birthday in the second half of 2020 after tax returns were due to the IRS could still qualify.
