When will you get the next stimulus check

First things first, when is this next check getting here?

October 15 is the official date when the next direct deposits will start showing up in bank accounts. And as with the previous installments in this series, anyone who opts to get a paper check will, of course, need to wait a couple of days after that for it to arrive in the mail.

What these six checks amount to is an advance, up-front payment of half of the federal child tax credit. Normally, an eligible family would get this benefit next year when they file their federal tax return. Because of the pandemic thats still raging, though, Congress set up a mechanism for people to enjoy some of that benefit now. Congress also raised the maximum credit, from $2,000 to up to $3,600 for eligible parents.

Depending on whether parents have a child whos younger than age six, or whos between the ages of six and 17, those parents will either get $1,500 or $1,800 from this advance. And itll be spread out over six checks.

When Will I Get My Money

With Biden having signed the legislation on March 11, 2021, payments could begin going out as soon as the week of March 15.

Taking a more conservative approach, using the IRS timeline for the second round of stimulus checks as a guide, direct deposit payments could begin as soon as March 22, 2021, for those who previously received their second stimulus check.

Child Tax Credit: December End

Third Stimulus Check Update: When will the next stimulus ...

Some families received another form of stimulus aid when the IRS in July deposited the first of six monthly cash payments into bank accounts of parents who qualify for the Child Tax Credit . Families on average received $423 in their first CTC payment, according to an analysis of Census data from the left-leaning advocacy group Economic Security Project.

Eligible families received up to $1,800 in cash through December, with the money parceled out in equal installments over the six months from July through December. The aid was due to the expanded CTC, which is part of President Joe Biden’s American Rescue Plan.

Families who qualify received $300 per month for each child under 6 and $250 for children between 6 to 17 years old. Several families that spoke to CBS MoneyWatch said the extra money would go toward child care, back-to-school supplies and other essentials.

While progressives and some Democrats urged lawmakers to continue the enhanced CTC, it appears stalled at the moment. That means families won’t receive a CTC payment in January or beyond.

Fourth Stimulus Check: Are More Payments Coming

A fourth stimulus check from the government could take one of two forms: monthly checks in fairly small amounts, or one-time payments of up to $2,000.

Both options have been put forward by legislators in Congress as follow-ups to the third round of pandemic relief payments, which were made possible by the American Rescue Plan Act of March 2021.

The U.S. economy is still recovering, with slow but steady job growth even as unemployment numbers hold steady and the Delta variant of COVID-19 causes hospitalization rates to soar.

The federal moratorium on evictions ended Aug. 26 with a Supreme Court ruling, and millions now face losing their homes. Inflation, however, appears to be on the rise, contributing to fears among economists and lawmakers that further stimulus payments could only fuel more price hikes.

As a result, there’s no legislation in Congress that’s likely to pass that would create a fourth round of stimulus payments, even though some Democratic lawmakers have called on President Joe Biden to consider recurring payments.

The White House has passed back the buck, stating that the president would consider whatever Congress comes up with.

At the end of July, Rep. Ilhan Omar , introduced a bill that would send $1,200 to each American making less than $75,000 per year, forever. But it has not moved forward in the House of Representatives and has little chance of passing.

Families get monthly payments worth up to $300 per child for those under the age of six and $250 for dependents between the ages of six-17.

But, the amount depends on how old your kids are and how late you started claiming the advance tax credits.

Families that have recently signed up for advance child tax credits could receive monthly payments of $600.

Parents will receive up to $1,800 this year before claiming the remaining amount when tax returns are filed in 2022.

Child tax credit payments are based on Americans’ previous tax returns but the program is open to low-income earners.

Single Americans do not have to file a tax return if they earn less than $12,200 a year.

There is the option to opt-out of advance child tax credit payments and its advised parents unsubscribe if they are worried about owing money to the IRS.

If You Didn’t Get Your First Check

When will you see the next stimulus check?

The IRS used your 2019 income tax return to determine your AGI. If you’ve moved since filing that return, that is the only address they have on file for you. If you received a refund for 2019 and had that refund deposited directly into your bank account, that’s the last bank account the IRS has on file. That means that if you’ve changed banks since that time, they likely sent your stimulus check to the last bank on record. By law, banks are required to send those checks back to the IRS.

If you’re missing either of your stimulus checks, it’s not too late to make a claim. Fill out the Recovery Rebate Credit on your 2020 tax form to let the IRS know that funds are still owed. If you owe taxes for 2020, the government will keep your rebate to cover them. For example, if you owe $2,000 but missed out on the $600 stimulus check, the IRS will keep the $600, and your tax bill will drop to $1,400. On the other hand, if you are due a tax refund, the IRS will add the rebate to your refund.

The good news is that we know for sure there is another round of stimulus in the pipeline. Right now, our best guess is that it should reach you within three weeks of the day Congress passes stimulus legislation.

Parents Throughout The United States

Parents with incomes under $150,000 , or $75,000 are the largest group on track to get another stimulus payment.

See, the American Rescue Plan Act — the coronavirus relief passed by President Joe Biden — did more than just provide $1,400 stimulus checks. It also expanded the existing Child Tax Credit and established the monthly distribution of Child Tax Credit payments beginning in July.

The expanded Child Tax Credit, which is currently in effect through the end of 2021, provides parents with a refundable tax credit valued at $3,000 for each child of age 6 through 17. Those with children under age 6 receive an extra $600, for a total of $3,600 per young child.

Half of the total credit amount is being distributed into bank accounts during the months of July, August, September, October, November, and December 2021. Most eligible parents have already received the first five of these payments and are on track to get the last one in December. These monthly payments will deliver half the credit, with the remaining half claimable when filing 2021 tax returns. Democrats are also aiming to extend the expanded credit through 2022 as part of their proposed Build Back Better legislation, so it’s possible that these deposits could continue into next year.

Heres Who Can Expect More Stimulus Payments

As background, the federal government is still giving select workers stimulus payments, and states have used some of their federal relief to provide teachers bonuses, with some issuing stimulus checks to state residents who meet income requirements.

But another group eligible for stimulus payments might surprise you: babies born in 2021. The newest Americans qualify for payments up to $1,400 from the third round of federal stimulus checks that millions of people received in March. To qualify for the full amount, your household must meet income requirements: $150,000 for married people who file a joint return or $75,000 for individuals.

Eligible new parents who inform the IRS they had a baby or babies when they file their 2021 taxes next year will still receive a stimulus check for those children.

Plus, people with 2021 newborns might not realize that theyre eligible for the expanded child tax credit thats part of the governments COVID stimulus package.

You could have opted to inform the IRS this year about your new family member to get the early monthly tax credit installments that the agency paid in 2021. If you didnt, youll get the full $3,600 credit when you file your next tax return in 2022 and claim the baby as a dependent for the first time.

Are You Entitled To A $1400 Check In 2022

When will the New Stimulus Checks Come? [Full FAQ on All]

The American Rescue Plan Act authorized payments of $1,400 per adult and $1,400 per dependent. President Joe Biden signed the Act into law at the end of March and the vast majority of Americans have already received the full amount of stimulus money due.

However, people who had a baby or otherwise added a new dependent may not have received all the money that they were supposed to get this year. The problem is, the IRS determined how many dependents were entitled to the $1,400 payments by reviewing past tax returns. And if you added a dependent only in 2021, then this information would not have been available to the IRS when your payment was calculated.

If you missed out on a payment for any new dependents you added in 2021, you can claim $1,400 per dependent in 2022. So, for example, if you added twin babies to your family this year, you would be entitled to $2,800 for them. You’ll simply have to claim the money by filing a tax return. The payments that were sent out were an advance on a tax credit, so the tax credit should be available to you when you file your 1040 form with the IRS for 2021.

The IRS will begin accepting tax returns in late January of 2022, so the sooner you file your return for 2021, the faster you can get the $1,400 payment that you’re owed.

Humanity Forward

All signs are currently pointing to Democrats getting annihilated in this fall’s midterm elections. Funding a stimulus check 2022 expansion might be one of the party’s last chances to get out in front of that. Accordingly, at least so far, Biden officials don’t seem to have given up on the stimulus payment package negotiations yet. Regardless of Sen. Manchin’s refusal thus far to support it. That’s a positive sign.

Also worth pointing out:

Importantly, the Biden administration killed two birds with one stone when it included the original child tax credit expansion in last year’s American Rescue Plan.

First, the expanded credit did two things. It made half of the figure for eligible recipients payable in monthly installments. The rest is coming this year, at tax time. Where it became an anti-poverty tool, though, is in the following. Lawmakers also made the maximum payout available to families with little or even no income.

If finances are tight, hold on. Another stimulus check should arrive soon.

New legislation has the well-deserved reputation of moving through the halls of Congress with the speed of a sloth. The third round of direct stimulus checks to the American public represents a change. Despite Congressional infighting and opposition from a large portion of the GOP, Democrats have voted to move ahead with President Joe Biden’s $1.9 trillion COVID-19 relief proposal. Using a parliamentary move called “budget reconciliation,” Democrats believe they have the numbers to pass the ambitious legislation without Republican support.

Part and parcel of Biden’s recovery plan is another round of stimulus checks, this one for $1,400. When added to the $600 checks sent in late December, the next round will total the $2,000 Biden promised while on the campaign trail.

Congress Is Moving Quickly And So Should You

The IRS will look at your most recent tax return to determine whether you qualify for the stimulus check, and for what amount.

That means if you faced a significant income drop in 2020 because of the pandemic, you’ll want to get that information in front of the tax agency ASAP, since it will base your eligibility for stimulus cash on the last return you filed.

So, for example, if you made $77,000 in 2019 but only $65,000 in 2020, your 2019 income would disqualify you from a full payment but your 2020 earnings would get you the $1,400.

The aid bill now goes back to the U.S. House, where a final vote could come as early as Monday. If the president signs the legislation quickly, the IRS could begin processing stimulus checks within days meaning you may not have much time to submit your 2020 tax return, so it will help determine your payment.

Fortunately for you, electronic filing using today’s tax software can get your return into the IRS’ system almost instantly.

  • For Heads of Households, the amounts will be $112,500 and $120,000.

$1400 Coronavirus Stimulus Check: Who Will Get It

The American Rescue Plan Act, which was approved in March of this year, authorized a $1400 coronavirus stimulus check per dependent. The IRS has already sent almost all the payments to the eligible recipients. However, some households may still get a $1400 coronavirus stimulus check, such as those who had a baby or added a new dependent in 2021.

For determining the eligibility of the third stimulus checks, the IRS used the past year tax returns. This means, if you had a baby in 2021, or added a new dependent this year, then this information wouldnt be available on your earlier tax return.

So, if you had a baby or added a new dependent in 2021, then you need to claim the stimulus money for them in 2022. The dependent, however, should be below 19 years of age unless they are a student, or of any age if he or she is permanently disabled. Another example would be, if you had twin babies in 2021, you could get $2,800 in stimulus money when you file your tax return next year.

Since the stimulus payments were an advance on a tax credit, you would be able to claim that credit after filing your 1040 form with the IRS for 2021. The IRS is expected to start accepting 2021 tax returns in the last week of January 2022. So, to get your $1,400 stimulus check sooner, it is recommended that you file your 2021 tax return as early as possible.
