Protected Rating. If you have a protected rating and your benefits have been reduced, you should hire a veterans attorney to help you. Its very difficult for the VA to legitimately change a protected rating, so a disability attorney may be able to get your rating reinstated.

Unprotected Rating. If you have an unprotected rating and your benefits were reduced, you should also consult a veterans attorney. The VA has legal requirements they must adhere to, such as keeping you notified of what you need to do to keep your benefits and properly examining your medical records, before they can legally reduce your benefits. A disability attorney can assess your situation and determine if the VA made an error reducing your benefits.

En español | The IRS has sent a wave of pandemic stimulus checks to government retirees who normally dont file federal income taxes. Now the agency is sending payments to Veterans Affairs beneficiaries who dont normally file taxes. But the Social Security Administration says if you are a beneficiary and havent gotten your stimulus check, you need to file a 2020 tax return now to get any stimulus payments due to you.

To date, the IRS has delivered 164 million stimulus payments worth about $386 billion during the coronavirus relief mandated by the American Rescue Plan Act, which President Joe Biden signed on March 11.

Many low-income beneficiaries including recipients of Social Security retirement and disability benefits, as well as recipients of SSI benefits administered by the Social Security Administration arent required to file tax returns, and some of those payments were delayed. The IRS said it was waiting for updated information from the SSA on bank accounts and addresses of federal beneficiaries to ensure the stimulus payments reach eligible individuals.

AARP has pushed the IRS and the SSA to move more swiftly to get those checks to individuals who dont file federal income taxes.

On March 25 the SSA gave the IRS the updated information required to begin delivering stimulus checks to some 30 million federal beneficiaries still awaiting payments, Saul said.

We passed the recovery package to get money into the pockets of Californians who were hit hardest by this pandemic, and thats exactly what the Golden State Stimulus is doing, Governor Newsom said of the payments. These are the first payments to those who filed their taxes before 1 March. The state began sending out payments 15 April.

For those that filed before 23 April, they should see their stimulus payment arriving sometime starting around 15 May. Depending on how the payment was made it will take two to six weeks to receive. Those who use direct deposit to get their refund could see the money in their account two weeks after it is disbursed. While those that receive paper checks will have to wait between four and six weeks.

Californians who have not filed their 2020 taxes should know they may qualify for these funds, and we look forward to building on programs like this that invest in and support Californians in the months ahead, Governor Newsom said. In order to receive a payment, filers must file before 15 October, 2021.

The state will continue to send payments twice a month as the FTB processes state tax returns however if you file after 23 April you may have to wait longer. The FTB says that direct deposits could take up to 45 days and paper checks 60 days after a return is processed.

STIMULUS PACKAGE UPDATE | I AM ON SSI WHERE IS MY STIMULUS CHECK? SECOND STIMULUS CHECK PASSED?

ST. LOUIS The U.S. Treasury has started sending out $1,400 payments as part of the recently passed American Rescue Plan but what does that mean for people on Social Security and when will SSI recipients receive their stimulus check?

According to the IRS, the third round of economic stimulus, known to the Treasury as EIP3, will be sent to people who didnt file a return but receive Social Security retirement, survivor or disability benefits , Railroad Retirement benefits, Supplemental Security Income or Veterans Affairs benefits. This is similar to the first and second rounds of Economic Impact Payments, often referred to as EIP1 and EIP2.

The IRS has not confirmed the official payment date. Social Security recipients will get the payment the same way they would normally receive Social Security benefits.

For those who received EIP1 or EIP2 but dont receive a payment via direct deposit, they will generally receive a check or, in some instances, a prepaid debit card . A payment will not be added to an existing EIP card mailed for the first or second round of stimulus payments, the IRS says.

While the payment date for many recipients was March 18, a specific date for Social Security recipients has not been confirmed.

Will My Stimulus Check Payment Affect My Benefits

Some people receiving disability benefits are concerned about how the stimulus package payment may impact their eligibility for existing federal programs, also known as the SSI or SSDI disability programs.

As always, its a good idea to review the difference between SSI and SSDI. Social Security Disability Insurance is for disabled workers and certain dependents. Disabled workers include people with a medical condition who are unable to work. A person applying for SSDI benefits will have worked enough to obtain the number of work credits required to be eligible for benefits. If you are eligible for SSDI, income and assets dont matter, so the stimulus check will have no effect.

On the other hand, Supplemental Security Income is need based. It is a public assistance program for the elderly, disabled and blind. SSI benefits are not related to an individuals earnings.

To qualify for Supplemental Security Income , disabled individuals must not have more than $2,000 in qualifying assets. Couples are allowed $3,000. Certain assets are excluded from this by SSI rules but the assets or resources that are counted by SSI include money in the bank, investments of any kind, real estate other than a primary residence, and personal property and household goods over certain limits.

How To Track Your Stimulus Check

The IRS said Tuesday the Get My Payment tool on the agency’s website won’t be updated until the weekend of April 3-4, so federal beneficiaries will have to wait until at least then to check on the status of their payments. VA benefit recipients may have to wait until at least mid-April to use the tool.

The IRS is sending the third round of payments out to American families, but we are not sure how long this will take. We believe the IRS will continue to send the third round of payments until December 2021. Because this third round of stimulus is actually an advance payment of a tax credit for tax year 2021, you should be able to claim this credit on your 2021 tax return if you do not get it by the end of 2021.

If you started receiving SSDI benefits after 1997, the date you receive your payment depends on your birthday.

  • If your birthday is on the 1st 10th of a month, your SSDI checks or direct deposit will arrive on the second Wednesday of every month.
  • If your birthday is on the 11th 20th of a month, your SSDI checks or direct deposit will arrive on the third Wednesday of every month.
  • If your birthday is on the 21st 31st of a month, your SSDI checks or direct deposit will arrive on the fourth Wednesday of every month.

If the third is on a Saturday, Sunday, or legal holiday, your benefits will be paid on the banking day before. In some circumstance, if you are still receiving SSDI benefits on the third of the month, you can change your payment date. However, you cannot choose any day of the month you want for your new payment date. Your birth date will determine what day your benefits will arrive, based on the same list above.

If Youre Still Missing Money From The First Two Stimulus Checks And Dont File Taxes Heres What Youll Have To Do

According to the IRS, people who receive Social Security retirement, SSDI, SSI and Railroad Retirement benefits, as well as Veterans Affairs beneficiaries, were automatically eligible for the first two stimulus payments. If you receive these federal benefits as your only form of income, you werent required to file a federal income tax return in 2018 or 2019. Under the CARES Act passed in March 2020, you should have received a stimulus check automatically .

If that money didnt arrive, its possible you might have had a payment garnished for child support or to pay a specific kind of creditor, but the rules changed with a second check. However, an IRS error could also be one potential culprit, or that the IRS needed more information about your eligibility.
