You Haven’t Filed Taxes For 2018 Or 2019
In most cases, the IRS determines whether someone is eligible for a stimulus check, and how much they’ll get, based on their most recent tax return â for 2019, or 2018 if the individual hasn’t filed yet this year. The deadline to file federal taxes has been pushed back from April 15 to July 15 this year, but nonetheless it may be in your best interest to file your taxes sooner than later.
People who have already filed their taxes do not have to do anything to get their checks. However, some people are not required to file taxes, and they could miss out on stimulus payments if they do not take action. Low-income earners â with gross income of $12,200 or less â do not need to file federal tax returns. For these people to receive a stimulus payment, they must register at the IRS’s “Non-Filers: Enter Payment Info Here” page.
Stimulus Check Status: How To Use The Irs Tracking Portal To Find Your Check
Every week the IRS sends out batches of checks to those who are eligible. But that doesnt everyone who is eligible has received theirs yet. According to The Washington Post, some checks may not arrive until September.
You can check the status of your stimulus check using a neat tool the IRS developed. When you fill out a short form on the IRS Get My Payment app, you should be able to view the status of your stimulus check if you’re due to get one.
Heres how it works: Go to the IRS Get My Payment app website . Click ‘Get My Payment’ to enter the portal. Click ‘OK’ on the authorized use page after you’ve reviewed the terms. Fill out your Social Security number or Individual Tax ID , your date of birth , your street address and your ZIP code. Click ‘Continue.’

Third Round Of Economic Impact Payments Continues
Each week we’re sending the third round of Economic Impact Payments and the related 2020 Recovery Rebate Credit to eligible individuals as people continue to file income tax returns and returns are processed. If you haven’t received a payment yet, it doesn’t mean you won’t.
Ongoing payments will be sent to eligible individuals for whom the IRS previously did not have information to issue a payment but who recently filed a tax return, as well to people who qualify for “plus-up” payments. Get more information in the Questions and Answers about the Third Economic Impact Payment.
Check when and how your payment was sent with the Get My Payment tool.
If The First Two Stimulus Payments Never Showed Up Do This

The IRS is no longer automatically sending out the first and second payments that were approved in 2020. If you believe you’re still owed money from either of those payment rounds, your best chance of claiming those funds is to file for the Recovery Rebate Credit as part of the 2020 tax season.
If you’re eligible, you’ll need to know the amount of money the IRS allotted you, which you can find out online or from the letter the agency mailed. The IRS said the updated Get My Payment tracker won’t give you information on the first and second checks. Instead, you need to set up and check your IRS account for information on those payments.

Do You Pay Taxes On Your Stimulus Check
The short answer is no, you do not have to pay taxes on your stimulus check.
The stimulus check is recognized a tax credit, therefore it is not considered taxable income. Rather, no matter how much your payment is worth, you can deduct it from the total taxes you owe next year.
It will be reflected on your 2020-2021 tax return in your total refund amount, but you won’t collect it then because you’ve already received the advance. If you haven’t received your payment, check that you’re eligible and have fulfilled the requirements.
Special Reminder For Those Who Don’t Normally File A Tax Return
People who don’t normally file a tax return and don’t receive federal benefits may qualify for stimulus payments. This includes those without a permanent address, an income or bank account.
If you’re eligible and didn’t get a first, second or third Economic Impact Payment or got less than the full amounts, you may be eligible for a Recovery Rebate Credit, but you’ll need to file a tax return.

What Is A ‘plus
According to CNBC, some people received an additional payment on top of the incentive check already received. This is known as a “bonus”. This extra money went to people who owed extra money as a result of their tax returns for 2020. Example: Suppose you received your premium check based on your 2019 tax return.
Stimulus Check Round : Is A Second Round Coming
A second stimulus package was officially presented on the Senate floor in late July as the HEALS Act, but the timing of when it might arrive is still in limbo.
In addition to $1,200 direct payments, the HEALS Act continues federal unemployment benefits , offers a Paycheck Protection Program sequel for business loans, and provides more funding to help schools and COVID-19 testing, treatment and vaccine research.

An Irs App Is Another Option
There is an IRS internet application that can help get you current information on your refund. You can access the app online or using your mobile device. Go online to the IRS.gov website to this page. There, youll find IRS2Go, which is the official mobile app of the IRS that you can download to your phone through Google Play, amazon.com or Apple.
The app will show you your refund status. You can also use the app to file your tax return for free if you havent done so yet. The app has an English and a Spanish version.
You Aren’t Eligible For A Stimulus Payment
If you aren’t eligible for a stimulus check , the Get My Payment app won’t necessarily explain that. Instead, you may simply find yourself staring at the words “Payment Status Not Available.” If this is the case, you may want to take a look at your adjusted gross income on your most recent tax return, to see if you’re eligible for a payment or not.

Checking For Your Stimulus Payment: What You Can Expect
The IRSâs Get My Payment application is the only official way to find out when youâre scheduled to receive your stimulus payment. In fact, the IRS has asked people not to call about stimulus payments.
The app will ask you to enter your Social Security number or Individual Taxpayer Identification Number, your date of birth, your street address and your ZIP code.
If youâre eligible for a payment, it should show your payment has already been made or that itâs scheduled to be made. You also should see how and where it will be delivered.
If you have account information on file with the IRS, you should get your payment by direct deposit. If you donât receive a direct deposit, you can watch your mail for either a paper check or a prepaid debit card.
If your third stimulus payment arrives in the mail, it might come in a different form than your first two. Like the first and second payments, it should be followed by an IRS notice or letter that includes the amount of the payment. The IRS says you should keep this for your tax records.
Wheres My Stimulus Check

Some stimulus payments have already been sent out. The first group of checks has hit bank accounts as early as April 15. The IRS is sending them out in groups, so your stimulus payment funds may not have been released yet. In any case, you should expect the money soon.
Know that if you chose to use Direct Deposit when you filed your taxes, any stimulus benefits youre eligible for will go to the bank account you designated when you filed your taxes.
However, your stimulus check will be mailed to your home address if you received a paper check refund, or if the IRS doesnt have your bank account information online.

Will People Receive A Paper Check Or A Debit Card
For those who dont receive a direct deposit by early January, they should watch their mail for either a paper check or a debit card, the IRS said. To speed delivery of the payments to reach as many people as soon as possible, the Bureau of the Fiscal Service, part of the Treasury Department, will be sending a limited number of payments out by debit card. Please note that the form of payment for the second mailed EIP may be different than for the first mailed EIP.
Some people who received a paper check last time might receive a debit card this time, and some people who received a debit card last time may receive a paper check.

What if you dont file taxes, or if you make too little money to file taxes? Luckily, you likely still qualify for a stimulus check, and the IRS has a form for that.
If by chance, you make too little money to need to file taxes, you can fill out a non-filers form with the IRS. Filling out this form will help you start the process to receive your stimulus check.
Heres the information youll need if you have to fill out the non-filers form:

However, if SSA receives an allegation that the EIP was not used on behalf of the beneficiary, SSA may decide to investigate for possible misuse of the beneficiarys Social Security or SSI benefit payments. SSA may also determine the representative payee is no longer suitable and appoint a new representative payee.

Wondering Where The Latest Economic Impact Payment Is Heres How To Track Your Stimulus Check And What To Do If You Have Problems
Almost everyone who is eligible has received the first and second rounds of the U.S. governmentâs economic impact payments, or âstimulus funds.â But the third roundâpart of the American Rescue Plan Act of 2021âmay provide additional relief to eligible individuals.
The IRS started processing payments in mid-March. Your payment might already be in your account or on its way. But if itâs not, donât worry. The funds could take time to roll out. Hereâs how you can check the status of your payment.
What To Know About Adding Your Direct Deposit Details
You can’t use the Get My Payment tool to sign up for a new account or correct details about your payment. Even if the IRS is unable to deliver your payment to a bank account and the money is returned to the government, you won’t be able to correct the details online — the IRS says it will send the money again by mail.
The extended tax deadline was May 17. With the agency’s delay in processing tax returns, trying to register for a new direct deposit account with your 2020 tax return won’t get you into the system quickly enough. However, if you haven’t submitted your taxes yet, signing up for a new direct deposit account could still get you IRS money faster in the future, such as tax refunds or the upcoming child tax credit.
