But it could also mean you’re not eligible for a payment. So you may want to double-check your eligibility and plug your numbers in our stimulus check calculator to see whether you’re due money.

Confirm The Money Was Sent

The federal government mailed paper notices to all first and second-round stimulus check recipients after issuing their payment. Letters are also being mailed for the third round of stimulus.

The letter states the amount of the payment and method of delivery. One side is in English and the other is in Spanish. There is a notice date and number listed in the upper right corner.

If you did not get this letter , then you should create an IRS online account. The account will show the payment amount issued to you by the IRS, if any .

NEEDY Americans rebounding from the Covid-19 epidemic can still secure a financial jolt as part of the third round of stimulus rollout as checks are still coming in the mail or deposited online.

To keep an eye on the dough, IRS created the Get My Payment tool where cash-strapped individuals and families can get daily updates on their payment statuses.

When there is any issue over payment, the site issues alerts and details to help people resolve.

The IRS also allows people to create an IRS account, which opens up a substantial amount of details regarding past and present filings and stimulus statuses as well.

Meanwhile, if payment is expected in the form of a paper check or EIP debit card through snail mail, then theres a nifty tool that the US Postal Office tool called Informed Delivery.

Eligibility is based on the filing of 2019 and 2020 federal tax returns.

Last week, the agency issued another 2.3million payments including “plus-up” money for people who received less stimulus than they were supposed to.

As of June 9, the IRS has distributed over 169million payments totaling $395billion.

For the third round, more stringent income limits have been put into place.

What Will Get My Payment Tell Me

The “Get My Payment” site will inform you about the date of the payment and the method, which the IRS says will either be the mailed payment date or the date of direct deposit to your bank account. Checks sent in the mail will need more processing and mailing time, although the IRS didn’t specify the length of time that will be needed.

The IRS says it is prioritizing direct deposit payments to people with valid routing and account information.

The IRS is first sending money to those for whom it has bank account information on file. That might not be you if you havent received a tax refund over the past two years or if you received a refund by a check in the mail, rather than by a direct deposit.

But the Get My Payment tool, expected to roll out this week, will also allow taxpayers to input their bank account information so that they can receive the money electronically rather than by a paper check which could take weeks, or even months.

To do so, a taxpayer will need to submit their adjusted gross income from their most recent tax return, the refund or amount owed that year, as well as the account and routing numbers for their bank account.

However, taxpayers wont be able to update their bank information once the payment is already scheduled for delivery, and it wont allow you to update bank information already on file, the Treasury Department said.

When Will I Get The Third Stimulus Check

You may get a stimulus check starting as early as this weekend. However, stimulus payments will not be distributed all at once. Similar to the first and second stimulus checks, the IRS will send stimulus payments in this order:

  • First to individuals with direct deposit who have bank account information on file and
  • Second, paper stimulus checks and prepaid debit cards sent via mail.

How to track the status of your stimulus check

If you’re missing a first or second stimulus check but believe you qualify, then you can claim the money on your 2020 tax return . The payments are worth up to $1,200 and $600 per person, respectively.

When you prepare your tax return, you’ll be asked to report the total Economic Impact Payment received to date.

There will be a separate worksheet on your tax return with instructions for calculating any outstanding amount owed to you, if anything. If you file your taxes using online software, the provider will prompt you to enter the required information and do the calculations for you.

The IRS advises filers to only fill out this portion of their return if they received less than the maximum payment amount.

Who Is Eligible For The Third Stimulus Check

If youre trying to track your stimulus check, youll first want to know if youre eligible to receive one information that the Get My Payment tool wont explicitly inform you when you go track your check.

One good rule of thumb for determining if you qualify: If you were eligible to receive the full amount before, youll be eligible again. Income requirements for receiving full stimulus checks are the same for both individual and married tax filers, while income information is based on your most recently processed tax return .

If you earned up to $75,000 youre slated to get the full relief check worth $1,400. Married couples will thus receive $2,800 as long as their combined AGI doesnt top $150,000.

But the point at which payments completely phase out for Americans happens sooner on the income scale, a move meant to appease more deficit-minded lawmakers and shrink the size of the overall relief package.

Individuals total payments decrease by $28 per every $100 over the income threshold. Single filers and married couples who make $80,000 and $160,000 or more a year, respectively, wont receive a check at all.

Eligible U.S. adults will see $1,400 per each individual in their household, including adult dependents, such as college students.

Stimulus check recipients can now track their money through the Internal Revenue Service’s website after the payments began to be sent out last week.

Economic Impact Payments of up to $600 have been making their way to eligible recipients, in the form of direct deposits and paper checks.

While the last round was being distributed, people were able to check the status of theirs through the Internal Revenue Service’s ‘Get My Payment’ tool.

This was temporarily taken offline but is available once again for those wanting to follow up on their payments.

The IRS has urged people to check online should they want updates, rather than calling the agency.

“Data is updated once per day overnight, so there’s no need to check more than once per day,” the IRS ‘Get My Payment’ page states.

“Please do not call the IRS about the second stimulus payment our phone assistors do not have additional information beyond what’s available here on IRS.gov and in the Get My Payment application.”

The IRS is sending stimulus funds throughout 2021. If you haven’t received your payment yet, don’t assume you won’t ever get it.

You can check the status of your stimulus check using the IRS’s “Get My Payment” tool, which updates once a day. It will show you when and how your money is being sent, either direct deposit or through the mail .

If you get a “not available” status message, the IRS says you’re either not eligible for a third stimulus check or your payment hasn’t been processed yet. If you get a “need more information” message, you can enter your direct-deposit details to speed up your payment.

If you didn’t qualify for the third check based on 2019 income but that’s the most recent return the IRS has for you, file your 2020 return as soon as you can. Your payment will be sent once the IRS has processed your return.

If you aren’t required to file a tax return because your income is too low and you didn’t register using the IRS nonfilers tool last year, you will need to file a 2020 tax return to get any of the stimulus checks.

    You Get Social Security

Social Security recipients and people receiving Social Security disability benefits or Railroad Retirement benefits are eligible for stimulus checks, and they do not have to file taxes in order to receive a payment. However, if anyone in these groups has a dependent under age 17 and does not file taxes, they should add that information at the IRS’s “Non-Filers: Enter Payment Info Here” page in order to get an extra $500 per child.

The first people to get stimulus checks are those who have filed tax returns and have their direct deposit info on file with the IRS. People who receive Social Security or the other benefits mentioned above fall into a second category, and they will receive their payments in the next wave of deposits from the IRS. These people can expect their payments to show up in their bank accounts by the end of April, if not sooner. On the other hand, if federal agencies do not have your bank info on file, your payment will come in the mail as a paper check, and that process could take much longer.

In that case, people can use the “Get My Payment” site to provide the IRS with bank information but the tax agency said that only people who get the “need more information” message will be able to add their bank information to the portal.

The Irs Has An Online Tool That Lets You Track The Status Of Your Third Stimulus Check

Stimulus checks: Here’s how to track your stimulus money

The IRS has already delivered over 100 million third stimulus checks. But if you’re still asking yourself “where’s my stimulus check,” the IRS has an online portal that lets you track your payment. It’s called the “Get My Payment” tool, and it’s an updated version of the popular tool Americans used to track the status of their first- and second-round stimulus checks.

Note that you can’t check the status of your first- or second-round stimulus payments with the updated tool. To find the amounts of these payments, create an online IRS account or refer to IRS Notices 1444 and 1444-B, which the IRS mailed after first- and second-round stimulus checks were issued. If you didn’t get an earlier payment, or your received less than the full amount, you might be able to get what you’re owed by claiming the Recovery Rebate credit on your 2020 tax return. Third-round stimulus payments aren’t used to calculate the 2020 Recovery Rebate credit, but they will be used to figure the credit amount on your 2021 tax return.

The updated “Get My Payment” tool more-or-less works the same way as the portal used for first- and second-round stimulus checks. But here’s a refresher course on what the tool does, what information you need to provide, and what information the tool gives you. Check it out now so you know what to expect before entering the portal on the IRS’s website.
