Parents who welcome a newborn child at any point in 2021 are likely eligible for another stimulus payment, for $1,400, in 2022, according to both Fortune and Insider. They would get that check upon filing their federal taxes in 2022.
The way things stand now, what that also appears to mean is that parents would not only get that $1,400 check. But any parent who welcomes a newborn child in 2021 also likely qualifies for the temporarily expanded child tax credit. We say likely, because theres still an income threshold. Sorry millionaires, not you!
As weve explained on numerous occasions now, the latter was made possible by the $1.9 trillion stimulus law from earlier this year. However, depending on when the child is born such as if its in late December? For those parents, it would be too late to have this years monthly child tax credit checks reflect that change. In which case, the parents would get the money next year, after filing their taxes in 2022.
What Are Possible Reasons I Haven’t Gotten Any Child Tax Credit Payments
The 2021 advance monthly child tax credit payments started automatically in July. Even though child tax credit payments are scheduled to arrive on certain dates, you may not have gotten the money as expected for a few reasons. The IRS may not have an up-to-date mailing address or banking information for you. The mailed check may be held up by the US Postal Service or, if it was a recent payment, the direct deposit payment may still be being processed.
It’s also important to note that if you’ve been a victim of tax-related identity theft, you won’t receive child tax credit payments until those issues have been resolved with the IRS. If the issues aren’t cleared up this year, you’ll get the full amount when you file taxes in 2022. And keep in mind that even if you have unpaid state or federal debt, you should still receive child tax credit money if you’re eligible.
In September, roughly 700,000 families did not receive a payment due to an IRS technical error. Problems with missing payments were also reported in previous months among “mixed-status” families, where one parent is a US citizen and the other is an immigrant, though that issue should have been corrected for later payments.

Fourth Stimulus Check Possible Timeline
Right now, there is no fourth stimulus check timeline or fourth stimulus check release date. Until legislation is in motion, we can’t say how soon more relief money might arrive. We can’t say whether more relief money is coming, at all.

With the IRS Get My Payment tool, you can get a daily update on your payment status. The online app can also alert you with a message if there’s a problem with your payment that you may need to address. Another option is to create an online account with the IRS, if you haven’t already.
If you get sent a plus-up payment after your 2020 tax return is processed, the amount of your third payment will no longer show up in the tool, according to the IRS. In that case you will only see the status of your plus-up payment.
If you expect your payment to come in the mail, you can use a free tool from the US Postal Service to track your mailed stimulus payment.
Other Payments And Ubi
Some other states have sent out direct payments.
This includes Maine and Seattle, and Maryland, which are sending stimulus checks worth $285, $3,000, and $500.
Some cities are also implementing universal basic income programs, which is a set of recurring payments.
Teens in New Orleans, Louisiana will start getting $350 in monthly payments this month as part of the states financial literacy program.
Households with low earnings in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania will get $500 a month in payments for two years.
Low-income households in Chicago will get $500 in monthly payments.
And Columbia is sending out $500 per month to 100 low-income fathers.

When Will The 3rd Stimulus Checks Be Released
Americans will need to wait until Biden’s $1.9 trillion stimulus plan, or something like it, is introduced in Congress and passed. However, it’s unclear how long that will take.
The U.S. Senate is currently split 50-50, but Democrats control the chamber because Vice President Kamala Harris serves as the tie-breaking votes.
The legislation would require 60 votes to pass in the U.S. Senate, so Biden would need support from at least 10 Republicans and every Democrat for it to pass. However, Democrats could use a budgetary tool – known as reconciliation – that would allow the Senate to pass a possible bill with just 51 votes.
House Speaker Nancy Pelosi told reporters on Thursday morning that Democrats will be “completely ready” to go to the floor to pass a coronavirus package during the first week in February.
CBS News reported the package might not be passed until mid-February to mid-March, and that doesn’t include processing the checks and sending them out.
During the first round of stimulus checks in April 2020, it took about two weeks for the federal government to start distributing the money. It took around one week for the second round of checks, worth $600, in early January.
Assuming Congress is able to pass Biden’s relief bill in mid-February to mid-March, Americans could receive the third stimulus checks anywhere from late February to late March.
So, in short, a third check isn’t coming for probably at least another month.
Are $2000 Monthly Stimulus Checks Possible
In response to President Biden’s American Jobs Plan proposal, a group of 21 senators on March 30 sent a letter urging the inclusion of stimulus checks in the legislation. The group called for recurring payments as long as the pandemic lockdown continued, meaning people would get monthly checks from the government. No amount for the payments was specified.
We urge you to include recurring direct payments and automatic unemployment insurance extensions tied to economic conditions in your Build Back Better long-term economic plan, wrote the group, which consisted of Sen. Elizabeth Warren, D-Massachusetts, Sen. Bernie Sanders, I-Vermont, and others.
An earlier stimulus check proposal, put forward during the early days of the American Rescue Plan in late January, also suggested monthly payments until the pandemic is over, but did not mention an amount. However, Rep. Ilhan Omar, D-Minnesota, tweeted earlier in January that she wanted to see $2,000 per month.
If that amount sounds familiar, it’s because now-Vice President Kamala Harris threw her support behind $2,000 recurring checks during the negotiations for the second stimulus check legislation in the summer of 2020.
The proposal has also gained plenty of support outside of Congress: Six online petitions calling for $2,000 monthly stimulus checks until the end of the pandemic have been posted. The biggest petition, on Change.org, has been signed by more than 2.8 million people and has a stated goal of reaching 3 million.

So When Are You Likely To Get Another Stimulus Check
A bill including the fresh stimulus checks was passed last week by the powerful House Ways and Means Committee, one of the panels that control the government’s purse strings. A vote by the full House is expected next week.
After the House, the action shifts to the Senate. If Democratic leaders can keep Manchin on board, they may try to throttle up even further by sending the legislation directly to the Senate floor, with no committee votes, according to the Washington newsletter Punchbowl News.
Speaker Pelosi says the goal is to have a bill on the president’s desk in time to keep millions of Americans from losing unemployment money on March 14. That’s when an existing round of bonus benefits is due to expire.
If everything goes according to plan and Biden signs the bill during the first part of March the IRS may need just a few days to start pumping out stimulus check payments again. And that means you could receive your next infusion of cash as soon as the middle part of March.
