Don’t think that the child tax credit payments going out in just over two weeks are all the IRS is focused on. The tax agency continues to send weekly batches of the third stimulus checks, with more than $6 billion in stimulus payments going out just in June. Some of that money includes “plus-up” adjustments for people who received less money than they were supposed to get in earlier checks.
Even though many of us got our stimulus money in the earlier batches in spring, some have had to wait weeks or months for their checks. The IRS sent money first to people who’d already filed their 2019 or 2020 tax returns because those were the easiest to verify. How A Third Stimulus Check Will Differ From The First And Second Payments
For the first and second stimulus check, the total amount was lowered for individuals at specific income levels. However, your amount can steadily decrease to zero if you are a qualifying widow, married, filing a , or single.
Simultaneously, there is a big push in Washington for a third stimulus check, Though the eligibility criteria and the amount can vary compared to earlier payments.
As already discussed above, the third stimulus check will be dependent upon Congress and the new president. Your new stimulus check can be higher or much lower, depending on what you got before.
Third Stimulus Check: Potential Timeline For $1400 Direct Payments
WASHINGTON Since January, Americans have been anxiously waiting for the $1,400 stimulus checks President Joe Biden announced as part of his $1.9 trillion COVID relief plan. The House first passed its version of the American Rescue Plan on February 27. The Senate has now passed a different version of the bill, but both contain the direct payments. Now, the House has to take up the bill again before it is signed into law.
In both versions of the bill, individual tax filers making up to $75,000 per year will get $1,400. Couples making up to $150,000 will get $2,800. There will also be $1,400 tacked on for each dependent in the household.
In the House version that was passed, the money paid out phases to zero at $100,000 income for individuals and $200,000 for couples. But in the Senate version, it phased out at $80,000 and $160,000, respectively.
Because of those changes and other amendments in the Senate version of the bill, the plan goes back to the House. Representatives must vote on the Senate version or the two chambers may hold a conference to come to some middle ground.Roughly 8 million fewer households will get a check under the Senate bill compared with what the House passed, according to an analysis from the Tax Policy Center.

The Best Guess As To When That Third Payment Will Come If At All
CBS News analysts predict that, in a best case scenario, the third stimulus payment could start arriving by late February 2021 if the relief bill is approved and signed by mid-February. But if that package is stalled and passed at the end of March, the third payment wont start arriving until early April or so.

Fourth Stimulus Check Approval: Here’s What It’ll Take
The White House hasn’t responded to any of the proposals for additional stimulus checks, and the general sentiment is that a fourth stimulus check isn’t likely. Economists have suggested we’ve already moved past the pandemic’s worst financial woes, although there are signs that Americans could still use relief.
Experts certainly seem in agreement that there won’t be a fourth stimulus check. The latest stimulus package, the American Rescue Plan, is “gonna be the last on that front,” Deutsche Bank senior U.S. economist Brett Ryan told Fortune. “No more checks.”
Ed Mills, Washington policy analyst at Raymond James, agreed, telling CNBC recently “I think its unlikely at this time. D.C. has largely started to pivot towards the recovery and an infrastructure bill.”
Many economists and financial experts are worried that the third stimulus checks have contributed to a growing inflation rate. In June 2021, the core inflation rate, stripped of energy and food prices, rose 4.5% at an annual rate vs. the Dow Jones estimate of 3.8%. The overall consumer price index rose at an annualized 5.4% rate in June.

How Taxes Play A Role In Your Stimulus Payment Amount
Taxes were due May 17. So how will the IRS figure out how much it owes you? It will calculate your total based on the most recent tax filing it’s processed when tabulating the amount of your stimulus check.
If you know your tax return was already processed, the amount of your stimulus check will likely be based on your 2020 adjusted gross income, not on your 2019 AGI. That presents complications if the difference between the two years disqualifies you from getting a third stimulus check.
On the flip side, if the IRS uses your 2019 taxes and you’re owed more money based on your 2020 AGI and dependents, you could get a plus-up payment. If you got more than you’re owed, you’ll only need to return it to the IRS in some cases.
What Is A Work Search Requirement
Most people must show that they are taking steps to return to work to continue receiving unemployment benefits. If Your Third Stimulus Amount Is Less Than Expected
The IRS isn’t particularly big on communicating how much money it calculates for your stimulus check. You won’t find that figure in the agency’s online tracking tool, but you will see it in the confirmation letter you’ll receive in the mail.
So what happens if you use our stimulus check calculator and notice the numbers seem way off, or the IRS letter quotes an amount you didn’t receive? Start by triple-checking your qualifications to make sure you’re eligible for the total you expect. Remember the IRS is automatically sending plus-up payments after the agency receives your 2020 tax return. If you had a baby or otherwise added a dependent in 2020, you won’t need to file an amended tax form to claim the supplement.
The IRS could open up claims for missing stimulus money before its Dec. 31 deadline to stop sending checks. If not, you might have to wait until you file your 2021 taxes in 2022 to claim it — even if you’re a nonfiler who isn’t typically required to file taxes.

When Is The Stimulus Coming
As youve figured out, this Friday, October 15, youll be getting your next check. Itll either be directly deposited into your bank account or youll be receiving it in the mail a few days later. Meanwhile, the next stimulus check dates after this one are November 15 and December 15. You may be receiving more in 2022, but that could be after you file your taxes.
Child Tax Credit: July 15 Deposits
Some families received another form of stimulus aid on July 15 when the IRS deposited the first of six monthly cash payments into bank accounts of parents who qualify for the Child Tax Credit . Families on average received $423 in their first CTC payment, according to an analysis of Census data from the left-leaning advocacy group Economic Security Project.
Eligible families will receive up to $1,800 in cash through December, with the money parceled out in equal installments over the six months from July through December. The aid is due to the expanded CTC, which is part of President Joe Biden’s American Rescue Plan.
Families who qualify will receive $300 per month for each child under 6 and $250 for children between 6 to 17 years old. Several families that spoke to CBS MoneyWatch said the extra money would go toward child care, back-to-school supplies and other essentials.
Families may enjoy more of a tax break in coming years, if Mr. Biden’s American Families Plan moves forward. Under that plan, the Child Tax Credit’s expansion would last through 2025, giving families an additional four years of bigger tax breaks for children.

What Is Changing About The Child And Dependent Care Tax Credit
This credit, which helps working families offset the cost of care for children under 13 and other dependents, will be significantly expanded for a single year. More people are eligible, and many recipients will get a bigger break.
The legislation also makes the credit fully refundable, which means you can collect the money as a refund even if your tax bill is zero.
That will be helpful to people at the lower end of the income scale, said Mark Luscombe, principal federal tax analyst at Wolters Kluwer Tax & Accounting.
A Fourth Stimulus Check
As it was announced a few weeks ago, there will be a fourth stimulus check. Whether or not you receive it will depend on what you do for a living. The funding for this came from the American Rescue Plan, which was $1.9 trillion legislation from earlier this year. When Will My Stimulus Check Arrive
The stimulus money promised under the American Rescue Plan began to hit the bank accounts of many Americans on Wednesday, March 17 the first official payment date although some financial institutions chose to make the cash available to people even before it arrived from the government.
Not everyone eligible to receive a payment will have received one on Wednesday, though. Treasury and Internal Revenue Service officials said the payments will be released in batches over the next several weeks, with some coming in the mail in the form of checks or debit cards.
The Treasury Department has been working with financial institutions to try to ensure that payments arrive more quickly this time around than they did last year.
What Happens To The Supplemental Payments
If you qualify for any benefits, you will also receive the full $300 supplemental payment for weeks ending after March 14 and through Sept. 6. Known as F.P.U.C., its called the federal pandemic unemployment compensation.
The stimulus package also extends an extra $100 weekly payment, called the mixed-earner supplement, through Sept. 6. This payment helps people who have a mix of income from both self-employment and wages paid by other employers, because they are often stuck with a lower state-issued benefit based on their wages.
The legislation also clarifies that the $300 federal supplement will not be counted when calculating eligibility for Medicaid and the Childrens Health Insurance Program. The mixed earner supplement, however, will be counted.

What Other Aid Is Out There
While a fourth stimulus check is improbable, more direct payments to Americans have already been signed into law. Up until Labor Day, the jobless received extended unemployment benefits. The American Rescue Plan also includes an advance Child Tax Credit.
Under the revised Child Tax Credit, the Internal Revenue Service is paying out $3,600 per year for each child up to five years old and $3,000 per year for each child ages six through 17. Monthly payments of up to $300 per child started July 15 and will continue through December of 2021. The remainder is to be issued when the recipient files their 2021 taxes. The benefit does not depend on the recipients current tax burden. In other words, qualifying families will receive the full amount, regardless of how much or little they owe in taxes. Payments start to phase out beyond a $75,000 annual income for individuals and beyond $150,000 for married couples. The more generous credit will apply only for 2021, though Biden has stated his interest in extending it through 2025.
The ARP added $21.6 billion to the Emergency Rental Assistance Program, which is being distributed to state and local governments, who then assist households. Most of the $46 billion total has yet to reach tenants and landlords.
