California Stimulus Checks: Final Round Being Distributed
The final round of the Golden State Stimulus II payments is being mailed out to qualifying California residents. Families that met the eligibility requirements receive $600 plus $500 for dependents.
With this final round of payments, California has now issued more than 8 million checks and deposits, valued at more than $5.9 billion.
The second round of stimulus checks for California residents was part of Gov. Gavin Newsom‘s $100 billion budget that he signed into law in July. As part of the plan, the state expected to provide billions in coronavirus relief to 15.2 million California households or about two-thirds of the state’s taxpayers.
“The Golden State Stimulus is key to lifting up those hit hardest by the pandemic and supporting Californias economic recovery, putting money directly in the hands of folks who will spend it on basic needs and within their local communities,” Newsom said in a statement at the time.

Eligible recipients include current California residents who lived in the state for more than half of the 2020 tax year and individuals who earned $75,000 or less in 2020.
Taxpayers filing with an Individual Taxpayer Identification Number who have applied for but have not received their ITIN by October 15, 2021, have until February 15, 2022, to file their return and still be eligible for GSS I and GSS II.

Do I Qualify for the Golden State Stimulus I?
You may qualify for the Golden State Stimulus I if you are a California resident, not claimed as a dependent, and either of the following apply:

File your 2020 tax return with an Individual Tax Identification Number and up to $75,000 to receive $1,200.
Do I Qualify for the Golden State Stimulus II?
You may qualify for the Golden State Stimulus II if you are a California resident, not claimed as a dependent, and all of the following apply:

Have a California Adjusted Gross Income of $1 to $75,000 for the 2020 tax year
The Golden State Stimulus II provides $600 to taxpayers that did not qualify for GSS I and an
additional $500 – $1,000 if there is a child dependent and reported up to $75,000 for the 2020 tax year.
Who Is Eligible For Golden State Stimulus Check 2
To be eligible for the Golden State Stimulus I , you must meet the following criteria:
- Have filed your 2020 taxes
- Be either: A California Earned Income Tax Credit recipient An ITIN filer who made $75,000 or less
- Be a California resident on the date payment is issued
- Be 18 years or older as of the last date of the tax year
- Not be eligible to be claimed as a dependent

To qualify for CalEITC, you must:
- Have taxable earned income up to $30,000
- Not use married/RDP filing separately if married or RDP
- Live in California for more than half the year

Another check is on its way to two of every three California residents through the Golden State stimulus program.
California stimulus checks provide direct cash relief to those hit hardest by the pandemic.
Though a fourth stimulus check isn’t on Washington’s agenda, and enhanced federal unemployment benefits expired for millions last month, an estimated 9 million Californians are getting some extra relief aid in year two of the pandemic.
A third batch of Golden State Stimulus II payments is getting sent out on Oct. 5. The first batch, amounting to 600,000 payments, went out Aug. 27, and the second batch, on Sept. 17, was much larger, with at least 2 million Californians receiving the benefit. Approximately two-thirds of California taxpayers are eligible for a payment of $600, and some qualifying families will receive an additional $500.
These state-only checks are part of the $100 billion “California Comeback Plan” aimed at providing immediate relief to families and business that’ve been the most negatively impacted by the pandemic. Gov. Gavin Newsom’s office called it “the biggest state tax rebate in American history.”

You Receive Your Ca Tax Refund By Mail
California began issuing batches of stimulus payments by direct deposit back in late August but only started sending paper checks out by mail earlier this month. As a result, those who typically get their state refund through the mail should expect a delay possibly even through the new year.
Additionally, where you live can also affect when you get the payment, as mailing times are based on the taxpayers last three digits of their ZIP code.
The Franchise Tax Board provided the following timeline of when it expects mailed payments to go out:

About 5.7 million people qualify for the $600 payments aimed at low-income Californians. The money comes from a bill that Gov. Gavin Newsom signed into law earlier this year.

When Will I Receive My Stimulus Payment
The FTB says: “We schedule and issue stimulus payments twice a month after eligible 2020 tax returns are processed.”
Residents who filed their 2020 tax return between January 1 and March 1 were expected to receive their stimulus payment starting after April 15.
Californians who filed their taxes between March 2 and April 23 can expect to receive their stimulus payment beginning after May 1.
Recipients should allow up to two weeks after their tax return has been processed for direct deposit stimulus payments to arrive, and up to four to six weeks for paper checks, the FTB notes.
Those who file their taxes after April 23 are advised to allow up to 45 days after their tax return has been processed for direct deposit payments and up to 60 days for paper checks.
“Some payments may need extra time to process for accuracy and completeness,” the FTB says.
How To Track Your $600 California ‘golden State’ Stimulus Check
In February, Governor Gavin Newsom announced that qualifying Californian’s will receive a $600 Golden State stimulus check. The stimulus package was signed by Newsom on February 23, and a total of 5.7 million Californian’s will be eligible according to the governor’s office. $600 payments have started to go out to Californians on April 15th from The California Franchise Tax Board and will be received in the same way you received your tax return. The state must receive your 2020 taxes before the payment is sent and the deadline to send your taxes for the one-time payment is October 15, 2021. If your taxes were filed between January 1st and March 1st you can expect the Golden State Stimulus after April 15th. If you filed after March 2nd it can take up to 45 days to receive payment depending on the method of delivery.

Golden State Stimulus Check #2
The Golden State Stimulus II payments are different from the Golden State Stimulus I payments.
GSS I payments were a one-time check of either $600 or $1,200.
As mentioned above, it went out to those who typically earned less than $30,000 and received the California Earned Income Tax Credit, or CalEITC, or those who filed their taxes with an Individual Tax Identification Number, or ITIN.

Details On The California Stimulus Check
The Golden Gate Stimulus, a $3.8 billion deal passed in February, provides the new stimulus checks to Californians. It includes one-time stimulus checks for qualifying individuals.
California will send 8.5 million payments total, with two out of every three Californians being eligible. Eligible taxpayers in the state will receive one-time payments of $600. Qualifying individuals with ITINs usually immigrants and undocumented workerswill receive an additional $600, and taxpayers with dependents will receive an additional $500.
Expanding the criteria to individuals who filed with an ITIN was a strategic move by Gov. Newsom, including immigrants and undocumented individuals who were excluded from previous federal stimulus payment rounds.
When Will My Golden State Stimulus Check Arrive
This table below shows the dates between when your Golden State Stimulus II check will be sent out and when you should expect to receive it by.
- 045-220: Checks mailed October 18 through November 5 and should arrive by November 26.
- 221-375: Checks mailed November 1 through November 19 and should arrive by December 10.

Who Gets A California Stimulus Check
California will send 8.5 million payments total, with two out of every three Californians being eligible.
There are two types of Golden Gate Stimulus checks: GSS I and GSS II. Here are the eligibility requirements for both:
GSS I:
- Individuals who receive the California Earned Income Tax , which applies to working individuals with one or more dependents making at least $30,000 per year
- OR individuals make less than $75,000 per year and file taxes with an ITIN.

GSS II:
When Will Your Stimulus Check Arrive
The California Franchise Tax Board says it can take several days for a payment to be received by direct deposit.
For paper checks, payments will go out by the last three digits of the zip code on your 2020 tax return.
If your tax return is processed during or after the date of your scheduled zip code payment, allow up to 60 days after your return is processed.
The stimulus checks are being sent on a rolling basis through the beginning of next year.
An estimated nine million Californians are expected to receive one.

Who Qualifies For The Stimulus Checks
To qualify for the GSII stimulus checks, the following must apply to you:
- Have a California Adjusted Gross Income of $1 to $75,000 for the 2020 tax year
- Have wages of $0 to $75,000 for the 2020 tax year
- Be a California resident for more than half of the 2020 tax year
- Be a California resident on the date payment is issued
Also, keep in mind the checks can’t be claimed as a dependent by another taxpayer.
If you qualify for the check, you’ll typically get it using the refund option you selected on your tax return.
Most direct deposit payments were issued between September 1 and October 31, but if you filed your tax return after September 1, expect to wait 45 days.
Meanwhile, paper checks go out depending on the last three digits of the ZIP code on your tax return.

In total, an estimated $12billion will be issued with the hope of offering financial relief to residents financially hit by the coronavirus crisis.
How To Request An Itin
If you do not have a Social Security number, you’ll need to file your taxes with an Individual Taxpayer Identification Number. The only agency that can grant an ITIN is the IRS. But an organization or person trained and authorized by the IRS a certifying acceptance agent can help you request an ITIN.
When you apply for an ITIN, whether by yourself or with the help of a CAA, youll need to print, fill out and mail a W-7 form, which requires supporting documentation to verify your identity and foreign status.
While documents like a drivers license , a birth certificate or medical records can be used for either category, your passport checks off both boxes, as long as its valid and has a date of entry into the country marked by U.S. immigration authorities.
If you complete the W-7 form by yourself, keep in mind that you will have to mail the IRS your passport or other documentation youll be using and you wont get them back until the IRS makes its decision about granting you an ITIN number.
But if you apply with the help of a CAA, you can keep your documents throughout the process.
As a CAA, we certify the documents the IRS asks for, and this way folks dont need to be without their documentation for an extended period of time, the Unity Council’s Yolanda López explained.

The Deadline To Apply For The Second Golden State Stimulus Check Has Already Passed But Some Residents Have An Extension To Allow Them To File State Taxes
The second round of Golden State stimulus checks was provided by the California Comeback Plan, the $100 billion stimulus package signed into law by Gov. Gavin Newsom back in July 2022. The first payments went out in last year and the distribution effort is nearly complete.
To be eligible for the payments California residents must have submitted their 2020 tax return no later than 15 October 2021. This was necessary for the California Franchise Tax Board to decide how much each individuals entitlement was and to make sure that it goes to the correct bank account.
The vast majority of people who are able to receive a Golden State stimulus check will now have received theirs, but there are some exceptions.
Paper check recipients may experience delays
The final batch of payments scheduled for the Golden State stimulus check was sent out on 11 January, meaning that most will have already received theirs. The payments were staggered between October 2021 and January 2022 on the basis of the final three digits of the recipients ZIP code.
As well the case with the three rounds of federal stimulus checks, payments made via direct deposit into a bank account were issued first and often arrived within days. The final payments to be distributed were the paper stimulus checks, which were sent to those with limited banking access.
