What If I Owe Child Support Payments Back Taxes Money To Creditors Or Debt Collectors Or Federal Or State Debt
Both the first and second stimulus check cannot be reduced to pay any federal or state debts. Unlike the first stimulus check, your second stimulus check cannot be reduced if you owe past-due child support payments and is protected from garnishment by creditors and debt collectors.
If you use direct deposit and owe your bank overdraft fees, the bank may deduct these from your payment.
If you are claiming the payments as part of your 2020 tax refund , the payments are no longer protected from past-due child support payments, creditor and debt collectors, and other federal or state debt that you owe . In other words, if you receive your first and second stimulus checks as part of your tax refund instead of direct checks, it may be reduced.
Apr Veterans Receiving Va Benefits Will Receive Stimulus Checks
The Department of Veterans Affairs and Treasury Department stated on Friday that they have implemented an operating procedure to distribute stimulus payments to low-income and disabled vets who might not otherwise receive them.
The VA and Treasury Department said that the money will be automatically sent to vets and family members who currently receive VA benefits. Both departments stated that veterans who have not filed taxes in 2018 and 2019, would still receive the stimulus check.
This was announced after lawmakers and veterans organizations notified the government that a substantial number of disabled veterans and surviving family members might never receive the direct payments, which Congress approved in a $2 trillion stimulus package March 27. Their concern was for disabled or low-income veterans and surviving family members who currently receive monthly compensation from the VA but do not file tax returns or receive benefits from Social Security.
The Internal Revenue Service is using the addresses and direct deposit information on file from 2018 or 2019 tax returns to send the stimulus checks, which amount to $1,200 for many Americans. For some veterans, the VA payments are their only income. Those payments are not taxable, so the IRS does not have payment information for many veterans and families potentially millions, advocates said.

When Will These Payments Be Made
Multiple systems and processes need to be put in place to enable validating and processing these payments. Hence expect delays. Veterans and their beneficiaries who receive benefit payments from VA should receive the $1,200 payment towards the end of April per IRS guidelines.
Those receiving Social Security retirement or disability benefits, Supplemental Security Income and Railroad Retirement benefits can expect to receive automatic payments of $1,200 from early May.
The Treasury Department via the IRS, not the VA or SSA, will make the automatic stimulus check payments.

Update On Another Second Stimulus Payment In 2020
Congressional leaders have agreed in principle that a second stimulus check will be paid in 2020, given the ongoing economic fallout from the COVID crisis. This CARES 2 economic impact payment will be part of the next stimulus package, which is still under review due to several other politically contentious items . However another round of one-time stimulus check payments seems to be agreed upon by Republicans and Democrats, and the general consensus is for a $1200/$2400 payment in August.
The second stimulus payment will include eligible retirees and recipients of Social Security retirement, disability , survivors benefits, Railroad Retirement. These groups should also all be getting stimulus checks in the same manner that they got their first stimulus payment
The good news is that another $500 child stimulus payment will also likely be provided and will be expanded to cover those under 24 , so high school and college age dependents would be covered.

How Will You Receive Your $1400 Stimulus Check
If you did not file a tax return and you receive VA benefits on a Direct Express card, your third stimulus payment will be deposited to that card, the IRS said. The VA said if you have direct deposit set up with the IRS, you may have already received your payment as early as March 12 of this year. If the IRS does not have direct deposit information on file for you, it will use information from other government agencies to make your payment.
If you’re a veteran and don’t have a bank account, the VA has a program to help you set up a banking account to receive your VA benefits. With stimulus payments going out over the next week to VA beneficiaries, it may be too late to direct the check to a new account, however.
Those who receive VA benefits should look for a stimulus check soon.

Stimulus Check Update: Have Questions About Your Veteran Stimulus Money Or Plus
by Angelica Leicht | Updated July 25, 2021 – First published on April 14, 2021
Confused about the delays on stimulus money for veterans? Want to know about those tricky plus-up payments? We’ve got you covered.
The IRS has made impressive headway on the distribution of stimulus checks over the last month. As of the first week of April, the IRS had sent out more than 130 million stimulus checks or deposited them into qualifying recipients’ bank accounts. And millions more were added to the count last week after the federal agency sent out another batch of checks.
In total, roughly $345 billion worth of stimulus funds had been distributed to Americans as of last week, and the IRS isn’t done yet. This, and any subsequent money that is sent out, will help to fill pantries, pay essential bills, and tide over those facing serious financial hardships due to the fallout from the pandemic.
Additional payments are still on their way, along with supplemental payments, known as “plus-up” payments, for some Americans. This is good news for veterans and other groups who have seen long delays with distribution of their payments. If you think you may qualify for a plus-up supplemental payment, or if you’re a veteran still waiting for your stimulus check, here are the answers to your questions on this round of stimulus money.
Check The Get My Payment Tool
The IRS has uploaded data for your third stimulus payment into a tool on its website called Get My Payment. Some people are still seeing a message that says either the IRS doesn’t have enough information yet or that they aren’t eligible for the payment. If you get this message, it doesn’t necessarily mean you aren’t eligible. If your payment status has not been updated yet, it may be updated this coming weekend.
Once your information is updated, you’ll be able to see the date you can expect to receive your stimulus payment, or the date it was deposited or mailed. You should also be able to see whether your money was direct deposited or whether you’ll be receiving the payment by mail.

On March 31, the Treasury Department announced that Social Security recipients could expect to see stimulus check payments by April 7, CNBC reports.

Ongoing Delays For Social Security Recipients
Its been widely reported now that many social security recipients are yet to see payments. This is a known issue and the IRS is working to get these payments out in an upcoming batch. The IRS is saying payments via direct deposit should start flowing by the end of March. Mailed checks and debit cards could take a week or two longer.
I also do not file taxes, am retired, and get my social security direct deposit each month, which is my sole income. I received the first and second stimulus checks direct deposit and do qualify for the third but have not received the $1400.00. The get my payment says NOT AVAILABLE, We dont have enough information yet , or youre not eligible for a payment.
While checking online I found several comments that IRS has not yet released the Soc. Sec. deposit dates, and will do so soon, but of course nothing yet and it is 3/23/21 and they started on 3/12/21. There is no way to contact them so I am just stuck wondering if I will get anything. No way to verify if they made a mistake!

The Internal Revenue Service has confirmed that recipients of VA benefits will automatically receive Economic Impact Payments . That means that veterans and their beneficiaries who receive Compensation and Pension benefit payments from VA will receive a $1,200 Economic Impact Payment with no further action needed on their part. The move required coordination among the Department of Veterans Affairs , Department of the Treasury, IRS, and the Bureau of Fiscal Services .
Previously, the IRS confirmed that those receiving Social Security retirement or disability benefits , Supplemental Security Income , and Railroad Retirement benefits can receive automatic payments of $1,200
“Since many VA recipients typically aren’t required to file tax returns, the IRS had to work with these other government agencies to determine a way to quickly and accurately deliver Economic Impact Payments to this group,” said IRS Commissioner Chuck Rettig.
“Additional programming work remains, but this step simplifies the process for VA recipients to quickly and easily receive these $1,200 payments automatically. We deeply appreciate the sacrifices and service to our country by each and every veteran and their families, as well as the assistance of VA and the Bureau of Fiscal Services in this effort.”
