Why Are Chase And Wells Fargo Withholding Payments
The banks are in their right to hold back on releasing the payments until the official 17 March payment date outlined by the US Treasury. But why have these big banks not made an effort to start disbursing those payments that have already been transferred by the IRS as has been the case with digital banks like Chime?
According to the Huffington Post, part of the reason is because Chase and Wells Fargo are set to gain from delaying the processing of payments at the expense of their customers who are eagerly awaiting the money.
“Sluggish check processing only works to banks’ advantage because of the increased ‘float’ created by a massive influx of government cash. They can juggle the delays to boost outgoing loans to other customers, and to boost their profits,” the HuffPost noted.

How To Track The Payment Status Of Your Stimulus Check
The IRS Track My Payment Tool is now available for this latest third round of stimulus payments, allowing you to check the status of your $1,400 check. Up until early Sunday morning, the Tool was only available for tracking the status of the previous $1,200 and $600 payments, but as of Monday it has now been updated by the IRS to give information on these latest payments approved under the American Rescue Plan.
“Get My Payment updates once per day, usually overnight…Previous payment information is no longer available in Get My Payment,” the IRS says. “The first batch of payments will be sent by direct deposit, which some recipients started receiving as early as March 12. Additional batches of payments will be sent in the coming weeks by direct deposit and through the mail as a check or debit card.”
How Long Can The Bank Place A Hold On Government Checks

Generally, a bank must make funds deposited into an account by a government check available for withdrawal not later than the business day after the banking day on which the funds are deposited into an account held by the payee of the check and in person to an employee of the bank. For U.S. Treasury checks, the same deadline applies when the payee deposits the check at an ATM owned by the bank and is an accountholder on the account into which the deposit is made.
A bank may require that a special deposit slip be used for state or local government checks and for certified, cashier’s, or teller checks to qualify for next-day availability.
The bank may place a longer hold on a check in any of several circumstances:
- The check has been deposited into an account that has been open for less than 30 days.
- The total amount of checks deposited in one day is larger than $5,525, but only for the amount in excess of $5,525.
- The check has been returned unpaid and has then been redeposited.
- The check has been deposited into an account that has been repeatedly overdrawn during the past six months.
- The bank has reasonable cause to doubt that the check is collectible from the paying bank.
- Emergency conditions exist beyond control of the bank, such as an interruption of communication, computer, or other equipment facilities.

How Long Are Personal Checks Good For
Personal, business, and payroll checks are good for 6 months . Some businesses have void after 90 days pre-printed on their checks. Most banks will honor those checks for up to 180 days and the pre-printed language is meant to encourage people to deposit or cash a check sooner than later.
If youve been given a check, its best to cash or deposit it as soon as feasible. If you hold onto a check for a while you run the risk of the account number or routing number changing or the check writer may have forgotten about the check and spent the money on something else. This may cause you to have to pay returned check fees.
State Employees Credit Union
- Waives excessive transaction fees
- Waives early CD withdrawal penalty
State Employees Credit Uniondoes not have specific relief plans in place for its deposit account customers, although its loan customers can seek assistance in light of the coronavirus pandemic. Members can contact a representative through a secure message when logged into their account, by calling your local branch or by calling 24/7 Member Services at 888-732-8562.
SECU branches are back open for in-person service, although the credit union encourages members to continue to use drive-thru, online, mobile and telephone services when possible. SECU will limit the number of individuals allowed in a branch at one time and will require both employees and members wear a face covering while in a branch. Branches also have floor markings for social distancing, acrylic shields, sanitizer, gloves and regularly scheduled cleaning.

Payment Status Not Available
If you are getting Payment Status Not Available from the IRS stimulus check tracker dont be alarmed.
According to the IRS, if you receive that message it can mean one of three things:
- You are not eligible for the payment.
- The payment has yet to be processed
- The IRS doesnt have enough information to issue the payment to you
The agency said it will continue to issue the 2021 Economic Impact Payments throughout 2021.
Who Gets The Third Stimulus Check
The full $1,400 goes to single people earning up to $75,000. But it phases out quickly after that and is completely phased out for those earning more than $80,000.
A full payment of $2,800 goes to a married couple filing a joint federal income tax return earning up to $150,000. The phaseout begins after that and ends at $160,000.
The IRS will use the 2019 tax return information or 2020 tax return information, based on what they have available, to calculate the payouts that go out soon.

American Rescue Plan Payment Fee Waivers
At Huntington, we understand how vital financial relief programs are, like the American Rescue Plan payments that will be provided to eligible taxpayers. Beginning March 17, 2021 and ending December 31, 2021, well waive specific fees if an American Rescue Plan payment, that we can properly identify, is deposited into an account that is overdrawn.
Note that after 30 days, we may use any money in the account to pay back the amount of this temporary account adjustment. It will show as 30-Day Overdrawn Balance Debit in your account. We will send another email about a week before the end of the 30 days to remind you that the balance is due, and you may see those transaction details posted to your account.
When Do Cashier’s Checks Expire
Cashiers checks are a type of official check and the rules surrounding them can be complicated. Theres no set or specified expiration date for cashiers checks. Some say cashiers checks dont expire, while others claim a cashiers check is stale after 60, 90, or 180 days. Cashiers checks are backed by the issuing bank and, theoretically, should be valid for as long as the bank is in operation, but some banks will put expiration dates on the checks themselves.
It could be difficult to cash a possibly expired cashiers check or to get a replacement cashiers check. If you receive a cashiers check, look for a void after X days disclaimer and make sure you cash or deposit the check before then. If you discover an old cashiers check, contact the issuing bank and ask them what they need from you to handle the transaction.
Cashiers checks are a special type of check and theyre typically used for larger transactions. Read our article about Whats a Cashiers Check if youd like more information about cashiers checks themselves.

What To Do If Your Tax Situation Changed In 2020 Vs 2019
Maybe you had a child or saw your income fall in 2020, meaning youre eligible for a higher amount than the IRS right now assumes. Perhaps you changed banks or moved in the last year. If thats you, youll want to submit your 2020 tax return as soon as possible, so the IRS has the most accurate picture of your financial situation.
But its safe to assume that IRS officials are going to have their work cut out for them over the next few weeks. They might not be able to process your return by the time they begin sending out stimulus checks, meaning youll receive less than what you should.
While it wont be as speedy, youll most likely be able to claim any missing stimulus payments when you file your 2021 taxes in 2022 by claiming a Recovery Rebate Credit. And even better, the text of the American Rescue Plan opens up the possibility of additional top-up payments, meaning, in the best of circumstances, you wont have to wait a whole year to claim your check.
Similar to the first and second stimulus check rounds, youll also most likely be able to input your bank account information through the IRSs GetMyPayment tool. Stay tuned for more information from the IRS in the coming weeks on how and when to fill that information out.

What About Bank Of America
Bank of America has a slightly different process. The bank usually holds deposits for two to seven business days. The length of the hold depends on the reason for the deposit. Any drop made on a weekend wont be considered as deposited until the next business day . That means that the hold wont start until Tuesday. For direct deposits, it all depends on whos sending the funds and why.

Where Can I Cash A Third
Are you looking for a place to cash a third-party check near you?
You can cash a third-party check at some banks, credit unions, and several check-cashing stores across the country. Some of the top banks and credit unions where you can cash third-party checks include the Bank of America, Citibank, HSBC, Chase, M& T, and Chartway Federal Credit Union.
Several check-cashing stores also offer third-party check-cashing services. Leading the pack in the category are stores like The Check Cashing Store, ACE Cash Express, and Check N Go.
Regardless of where you choose to cash a third-party check, be ready to show proof of identity. In most cases, youll need a government-issued photo ID. Also, some institutions require that both payees must be present at the time of cashing the check.
Most credit unions wont charge you any fees but expect to pay third-party check-cashing fees in most banks and check cashing stores if you are a non-customer. Also, note that grocery stores, convenience stores, and gas stations offer other check-cashing services, but they will not cash a third-party check for you.

Set Up Direct Deposit
Direct deposit is the most efficient way to receive a recurring check such as your paycheck and it gives you the quickest access to your funds, as well. When you set up a direct deposit, money gets transferred from another bank directly into your account. Your bank doesnt have to verify the incoming funds again after the first deposit, and the money is typically available the same day.
Will I Get Money For My Daughter In College
Possibly. Under the latest program, additional payments could go to all dependents, not just children 16 and younger.
As part of the third stimulus, all dependents qualify for up to an extra $1,400. As a result, college students age 23 or younger could qualify, or so could elderly parents living with you.
For many families with children age 17 and older, the third stimulus payout could prove to be more generous than in the past. That would particularly be true, for example, if a married couple qualifies for the full $2,800 because their adjusted gross income falls under the $150,000 threshold.
Don’t Miss: Why Am I Not Getting A Stimulus Check
Some Taxpayers Reported A Pending
Now that President Biden has signed the $1.9 trillion pandemic relief bill into law, millions of desperate Americans are wondering the same thing: When will I get my money?
Some people got their answer Friday. Just one day after Biden signed the legislation into law, a reader in Alexandria, Va., found a pending post in his bank account labeled IRS TREAS 310 – TAXEIP3 for $6,892.90 for his family of five.
The IRS refers to the stimulus money as an economic impact payment, or EIP.
I was wondering if Biden was overpromising, the reader said in an interview. But I looked. And, wow, its actually there.
The notation on his pending post says the stimulus funds will be available to him on March 17.
The fast turnaround is laudable considering the IRS is in the middle of the 2021 tax season and is also still processing millions of 2019 returns.
But the devil is in the details, and not all people will get their money that quickly.
As in previous rounds, the IRS will eventually post answers to many of your questions at irs.gov. But Ive put together some information on when you can expect a payment, including what might delay your stimulus funds.
The first wave of electronic payments went out to those who had received a refund and this was key had their refund direct-deposited into a bank account.
When Is The Third Stimulus Check Coming

According to an IRS news release, the official payment date for the third stimulus check is this Wednesday, March 17. However, it also said “some Americans may see the direct deposit payments as pending or as provisional payments in their accounts before” then.
The distinction lies in how each banking institution processes the deposits.
In general, smaller online banks have been moving faster than big ones. Chime, a San Francisco-based upstart, tweeted an emoji-laden “stimmy alert” on Friday afternoon boasting that it had already made $600 million available to some 250,000 members. Current, another online-only bank, said it was “crediting payments as soon as we receive them for everyone.”
