Heres Who Can Expect More Stimulus Payments

Federal government says stimulus check deposits coming soon

As background, the federal government is still giving select workers stimulus payments, and states have used some of their federal relief to provide teachers bonuses, with some issuing stimulus checks to state residents who meet income requirements.

But another group eligible for stimulus payments might surprise you: babies born in 2021. The newest Americans qualify for payments up to $1,400 from the third round of federal stimulus checks that millions of people received in March. To qualify for the full amount, your household must meet income requirements: $150,000 for married people who file a joint return or $75,000 for individuals.

Eligible new parents who inform the IRS they had a baby or babies when they file their 2021 taxes next year will still receive a stimulus check for those children.

Plus, people with 2021 newborns might not realize that theyre eligible for the expanded child tax credit thats part of the governments COVID stimulus package.

You could have opted to inform the IRS this year about your new family member to get the early monthly tax credit installments that the agency paid in 2021. If you didnt, youll get the full $3,600 credit when you file your next tax return in 2022 and claim the baby as a dependent for the first time.

Homeowner Stimulus Checks Are Coming How To Get Your Money From This $10b Fund

As part of the American Rescue Plan stimulus relief bill, $10 billion dollars was included in the Homeowners Assistance Fund providing money to homeowners in assistance with mortgage payments in order to prevent delinquencies, foreclosures and late payments on utilities amongst other things.

The law prioritizes funds for homeowners who have been hardest hit by the pandemic. The Treasury Department states that it uses local and national income indicators to maximize the impact of where the money is distributed.

The HAF provides a minimum of $50 million for each state, the District of Columbia and Puerto Rico and $498 million for Tribes or Tribally-designated housing entities and the Department of Hawaiian Home Lands. $30 million is also available for the territories of Guam, American Samoa, the U.S. Virgin Islands and the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands.

Homeowners are eligible to receive HAF money if they have experienced financial hardship after January 21, 2020 AND have income equal to or less than 150% of the area median income. This means three times the income limit for very low income families, for the relevant household size, as published by HUD, according to the Treasury Department.

There Is Little Talk Of More Payments Despite Record Covid

Covid-19 cases in the US are continuing to rise – follow latest news – with never before seen numbers of cases rocking the country. The latest national figure, from January 9, had 313,061 new cases. While this increase, more than 200 percent higher than two weeks ago, is large, it isn’t reflected by a similar increase in deaths. Compared to two weeks ago, 16 percent more people have died. Cases are looking like they are peaking, but reported cases are always lower on weekends, so a fuller picture will be known later in the week.

While the situation was looking especially grim at the turn of the new year, vaccines are continuing to be effective against serious illness. Despite cases being at the worst level of the pandemic, there has been no move in Congress to pass another stimulus check.

How contagious is Omicron?

A more pressing concern has been the amount of people needing to be off work while isolating with the disease. This has been a contributing factor in the CDC reducing the recommended time to isolate with the illness. Now, people need only isolate for five days, with no requirement to test negative before returning to work. This has garnered criticism as people are potentially being pushed back into the workplace while they could be infectious to others.

Can I Enter My Direct Deposit Info Online

The IRS is building a tool called Get My Payment, expected to be available by April 17. You can enter your bank account information for direct deposit if the IRS doesn’t have your information.

If you don’t typically file tax returns and havent set up direct deposit with the IRS, you can register through an online portal the agency rolled out Friday. The Treasury Department and the Internal Revenue Service launched a new web tool that will allow Americans who dont normally file a tax return to register for stimulus payments.

For those who dont normally file a tax return, visit IRS.gov and look for Non-Filers: Enter Payment Info Here. Then provide information including your Social Security number, name, address and dependents.

The IRS will use this information to confirm eligibility and send a stimulus payment. Using the tool to get your payment wont result in any taxes being owed. Entering bank or financial account information will allow the IRS to deposit your payment directly in your account. Otherwise, your payment will be mailed to you.

What Happens If You Didnt Receive Any Money In Advance In 2021

Finally! Second Stimulus Check Coming Next Week!

Its even more important to file a 2021 income tax return for families who would qualify for the child tax credit but did not receive any advance payments this year.

It may be possible, if you qualify, that youd get a lump-sum payment by claiming the child tax credit when you file a 2021 federal income tax return.

This is an important point, especially for lower-income families or those with no income who normally dont make enough money to be required to file a federal income tax return.

Homeowners Coronavirus Stimulus Check: Who All Are Eligible

Governor Gavin Newsom proposed the California Mortgage Relief Program to support about 20,000 to 40,000 homeowners who are struggling to meet their mortgage commitment because of the COVID-19 pandemic. Funding for the program comes from President Bidens American Rescue Plan Acts Homeowner Assistance Fund.

These homeowners coronavirus stimulus checks will be a one-time grant and would specifically go to socially disadvantaged and underserved communities. The mortgage program would help to cover the past due housing payments of the recipients.

Our Housing is Key program has already provided renters and landlords with the assistance and resources they need to stay afloat. Now, with our California Mortgage Relief Program, we are extending that relief to homeowners, Newsom said in a statement.

People living in California at or below 100% of their countys area median income are eligible to apply for the grant. Also, the applicants must own a single-family home, condo or manufactured home. Moreover, they should have faced a pandemic-related financial hardship after January 21, 2020.

There are also a few more qualifications: applicants must be receiving public assistance, be severely housing burdened and are unable to work out alternative mortgage options with their servicer.

Stimulus Check Scams And Hoaxes

Of course, popular demand for widely distributed stimulus payments, and the confusing political maneuvering that goes into crafting stimulus bills, creates an information gap that’s easily exploited by scammers.

Even with the first wave of stimulus checks in 2020, we saw bogus email messages that pretended to be from the IRS, promising “an important update on your Covid relief fund.” But they just took you to phishing sites that wanted your Social Security number and other sensitive bits of information.

Following the second stimulus bill at the beginning of 2021, those email phishing attempts were joined by scam phone calls demanding your personal details so that you could be “cleared” to receive more stimulus checks.

In March, as President Biden’s American Rescue Plan was making its way through Congress, new phishing emails promised the moon: a $4,000 stimulus check, a boost in the minimum wage, free meals and, best of all, priority treatment that let you skip lines at COVID-19 vaccination sites.

Most recently, cruel pranksters have been passing around posts on Facebook that a fourth stimulus check worth $2,500 is coming by the end of July. Don’t believe it, and don’t believe the phishing websites that claim to register you for child-tax-credit advance payments.

In fact, most parents and legal guardians don’t need to do anything to get the payments they’ll just show up in your mailbox or bank account.

When Will The Third Stimulus Check Be Sent Out

Democrats and President Joe Biden want to have the COVID-19 relief plan approved by March 14. That’s when extra unemployment assistance and other pandemic aid expires.

However, there could still be changes before the bill is passed by the Senate. The Senate parliamentarian, who advises the Senate on its rules and procedures but has no formal power, ruled Thursday that a provision to gradually raise the federal minimum wage to $15 per hour must be stripped out. The Senate, as it has in the past, does have the power to change the rules to allow its inclusion.

If the Senate makes any changes to the bill, it would then have to go back to the House for approval again.

During the first round of stimulus checks in April 2020, it took about two weeks for the federal government to start distributing the money. It took around one week for the second round of checks, worth $600, in early January.

If the IRS is able to keep with previous timelines, Americans could start receiving stimulus checks from late March to early April. For example, if the stimulus package is signed into law by March 14, based on previous relief plans, the first direct deposits may go out the week of March 22.

Another possible complicating factor is that this round of stimulus checks will likely be going out while the IRS is dealing with tax returns.

Parents With Babies Born Or Adopted In 2021

Is another stimulus check coming?

If you added a new baby to the family in 2021 — either by birth or adoption — you may also qualify for another stimulus payment worth up to $1,400 in 2022. That’s because babies who were born in 2021 were eligible to qualify for the third stimulus payment, which was issued in March — but the money would not have been automatically issued, as the IRS would not have had the information about your new family member on file yet.

Luckily, this money can be claimed on your 2021 taxes if you qualify based on the income restrictions for the third stimulus payment, which were a maximum of $150,000 for married people who file jointly or $75,000 for individuals.

A Fourth Stimulus Check Is Unlikely

All of the tacit and explicit support for stimulus checks keeps the possibility alive. The support doesnt make a fourth payment likely, however. And there are many reasons why.

Vaccinations are progressing steadily, albeit not as quickly as in the spring. Adults and those at least 12 years old were already eligible to be inoculated in all 50 states. Emergency approval of the Pfizer vaccine for children ages 5-11 happened in early November. Three different options are available to the public, depending on ones age, with the Pfizer vaccine fully approved by the FDA. Booster shots of the Pfizer vaccine have also been approved and rolled out for adults. Actually putting needles in arms is taking time, even with supply readily available. Americans have received over 462 million doses, with 70.4 percent of the population having received at least one dose and 59.4 percent completely vaccinated. Vaccination numbers continue to increase at a rate of about one million doses per day, with booster shots and shots for children accounting for much of the recent increase.

Child Tax Credit 2022 Update Double $3600 Stimulus Payments May Decided In January As Irs Letter Sent

  • 17:09 ET, Jan 12 2022

LAWMAKERS could decide to issue new payments to make up for missed child tax payments in January.

President Joe Biden is workshopping a bill that could reinstate the payments if passed, and make up for the money parents don’t see in January, White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki said.

If we get it done in January, weve talked to Treasury officials and others about doing double payments in February as an option, she said.

Families could be getting new “$3,600 stimulus” payments when tax returns are filed this year, following the end of direct 2021 check boosts.

Although most families received six advance child tax credit payments in 2021, worth up to $1,800 per kid, they could now receive up to $3,600 per child under the age of six when tax returns are filed in April.

The payments are part of the child and dependent tax credit. The credit is to help families provide care and support for their children by covering other costs.

The amount is up to $3,000 per child for parents with dependents between the ages of six-17.

If you had a newborn baby in December, you may also be able to claim up to $3,600.

New $2000/month Stimulus Checks coming???

Child tax credit payments for families: A temporary expansion of the child tax credit for 2021 sends qualifying families up to $3,600 for each child — you can calculate your total here. The advance partial payments of up to $300 per dependent, which began this summer, are issued monthly through the end of the year, with a final payment in 2022.

Parents also have the option of deferring the advance monthly checks and instead get their payment in the spring. There is no cap on the total credit amount that a family with multiple children can claim. If the credit is more than what’s owed in taxes, families will receive the excess amount as a tax refund next year. Plus, low-income families can qualify for the maximum credit. Here’s more on child tax credit payment dates and eligibility.

Additional federal stimulus money: The third stimulus payments of up to $1,400 are still going out in batches to those who are eligible through the end of 2021. The IRS is also sending out “plus-up” payments, which is extra money making up the difference between the stimulus amount you already received and the amount you’re eligible to receive .

Also, if an individual in your family becomes a dependent in 2021, such as a newborn or foster child, they could also be eligible for a $1,400 payment. According to the tax agency, for any new qualifying dependents to receive the third payment you’d have to claim a Recovery Rebate Credit on your 2021 tax return that you’ll file in 2022.

Is A Fourth Stimulus Check Arriving In 2022

FILE – This May 8, 2008, file photo shows blank checks on an idle press at the Philadelphia Regional Financial Center, which disburses payments on behalf of federal agencies in Philadelphia. AP

As of right now, there are no plans for a fourth stimulus check in 2022. That doesnt mean efforts for additional financial assistance amid the coronavirus pandemic are done.

A petition for U.S. adults and $1,000 for children has been signed by 2.97 million people. If it reaches 3 million signatures, the petition will become one of Change.orgs most-signed petitions.

And while that petition has garnered millions of signatures and widespread attention, it appears unlikely it will move Congress to act. Instead, efforts are underway to extend the expanded Child Tax Credit, a measure passed during Marchs American Rescue Plan. The child tax pays parents up to $300 a month for children ages 5 and younger and $250 per child age 6-17. The remainder of the money up to $1,800 can be claimed when filing 2021 taxes in 2022.

The payments started in July and are set to end in December unless extended by Congress.

The $2.2 trillion Build Back Better bill, passed by the House on Nov. 19 and currently before the U. S. Senate would extend the monthly payments through 2022, short of President Joe Bidens proposal to stretch them into 2025.

That measure faces an uphill battle.
