A $2000 Stimulus Check Petition Is Close To 3 Million Signatures
A Change.org petition that has collected more than 2.9 million signatures calls on Congress to send out a fourth stimulus check of $2,000 for adults and $1,000 for children on a monthly basis for the remainder of the pandemic. The petition notes that “the recovery hasn’t reached many Americans” and points to the need for immediate checks and recurring payments so that “we can keep our heads above water.” While the Change.org petition is close to becoming one of the most popular on its website, whether it will have any effect is another question.
Residents Of Certain States
Eligible residents of specific states could also be on track for another payment in December. Maine, California, Maryland, and Florida are all planning on sending money to some people next month.
- Maine will be distributing $285 payments to half-a-million households, including eligible individuals with an adjusted gross income below $75,000 for single tax filers and $150,000 for married joint filers. These payments started going out on Nov. 15 and will continue into December.
- California is sending payments valued at $500 to $1,100 under the Golden State Stimulus II Program. These payments could be available for eligible individuals with incomes under $75,000 who were residents of the state for more than half of 2020 and who are still residents at the time the payment is issued.
- Florida will be distributing stimulus payments in December for first responders and educators who work with students in Pre-K through 12th grade. Around 175,000 teachers and 3,600 principals are eligible for payments of up to $1,000.
If you live in one of these states, you should check the specific eligibility rules for your location to see if you are one of the many Americans who will be getting additional stimulus funds during the last month of 2021.

Child Tax Credit Survey
Wednesday, meanwhile, marked the distribution of the final child tax credit payment. The IRS has said that Congress needs to pass President Bidens $1.9 trillion spending plan thats currently languishing in the Senate by the end of this month in order for the tax agency to have time to get set up for more child tax credit checks come January 15.
Along these lines, ParentsTogether, a national parents advocacy group with more than 2 million members nationwide, has released the results of a new survey of parents. Its findings, among other things:
- When asked what would happen to their familys finances if the child tax credit payments stopped after this month? 50% of respondents said it will be more difficult for them to meet their familys basic needs. And 36% said they will no longer be able to meet their familys basic needs.
- 1 in 3 respondents said if the child tax credit checks stop, they wont be able to afford enough food.
- 76% of respondents said the monthly checks have made them less anxious about their finances.
- 81% of respondents said its extremely important for their families that the checks continue past this year. Thats up from 73% in September.

A Fourth Stimulus Payment Is Currently Not In Any Proposal
Researchers have found that the first three stimulus checks helped reduce hardships like food insufficiency and financial instability. So far, during the pandemic, eligible adults have received a max of $3,200 and children have received up to $2,500. For struggling families, that’s not enough to bounce back from lost wages and benefits.
Since the American Rescue Plan, the White House has proposed several packages, including the American Jobs Plan and the Build Back Better agenda, but those don’t call for more direct aid. President Joe Biden is “open to a range of ideas” regarding stimulus aid, according to a June statement by White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki, but he already put forward what would be “the most effective for the short term.”
The scaled-back compromise of the $1 trillion bipartisan infrastructure deal, which was agreed to in the Senate on July 28, doesn’t include anything related to “human infrastructure” — it doesn’t address child care, improved wages or job training. Instead, those elements are to be included in the proposed $3.5 trillion reconciliation package, which is likely to be scaled back. The White House has outlined its “Build Back Better Agenda,” incorporating lower health care costs, tax cuts and investments in teachers and schools. Senate Democrats are working on the economic plan, but the process of approving final versions of the bill in Congress could take a while.
Are 4th Stimulus Checks Really Happening

They arebut theyre not coming from the federal government like the last three stimulus checks did. This time, it all depends on what state you live in. Thats right, these fourth stimulus checks are being given out to some folks at the state and city levels now.
Back when the American Rescue Plan rolled out, all 50 states as a whole were given $195 billion to help fund their own economic recovery closer to home.1 Thats a lot of dough. But heres the catchthey dont have forever to spend that money. The states have to figure out what to spend the money on by the end of 2024, and then they have until the end of 2026 to use up all that cash.2 Those deadlines might sound super far away, but the clock is ticking here.

Lawmakers are still pushing for more stimulus checks until the coronavirus pandemic ends.
The fourth round of stimulus checks hasnt had much movement. Though, recently 26 Democrats reportedly have recently signed two letters sent to the White House campaigning for automatic stabilizers for future stimulus checks. If Congress approves this means automatic payments deposited into the bank accounts of millions of Americans.
According to Newsweek, the White House does support automatic stabilizers for unemployment. Hence, many lawmakers are hopeful its included in the Biden administrations upcoming American Families Plan.
As put in the White Houses statement, the upcoming bill is to grow the middle class, expand the benefits of economic growth to all Americans, and leave the United States more competitive.
The White House is also proposing the American Families Plan will add at least four years of free education, provide direct support to children and families, and extend tax cuts for families with children and American workers.
The success of the American Rescue Plan, combined with direct financial assistance in the CARES Act and prior federal legislation, is evident in communities nationwide, said Gomez in the letter. But we cant pretend that a $1,400 check will be enough to last a year, and we need to be prepared with a strengthened safety net should a similar economic crisis strike again.

How Have Americans Spent Their Stimulus Checks
There have been threecount themthree wide-reaching stimulus checks from the government since the pandemic hit. And now that a good chunk of time has gone by since they dished out the first one, were starting to see how people spent that money. Our State of Personal Finance study found that of those who got a stimulus check:
- 41% used it to pay for necessities like food and bills
- 38% saved the money
- 11% spent it on things not considered necessities
- 5% invested the money
And on top of that, heres some good news: Data from the Census Bureau shows that food shortages went down by 40% and financial instability shrank by 45% after the last two stimulus checks.24 Thats a big deal. But the question here isif people are in a better spot now, will they be more likely to manage their money to make sure things stay that way?

4th Stimulus Check Update: Is Another Direct Payment in Play?: Over the course of this seemingly never-ending coronavirus pandemic, know that Congress has green-lighted the delivery of three much-needed stimulus checks to most Americansa $1,200 check in April 2020, $600 in December, and the $1,400 payments given the go-ahead in March under President Joe Bidens $1.9 trillion American Rescue Plan.
But the concerning trajectory of the ongoing pandemicnow made worse by rapidly increasing cases of the highly mutated Omicron coronavirus variantand the current red-hot inflationary environment are apparently propelling even more passionate calls for another round or two of stimulus checks. In short, millions are still financially struggling to make ends meet.
However, it appears that some experts are contending that Americans really shouldnt hold their collective breath for another round of stimulus anytime soon.
Unless conditions get dramatically worse, its unlikely that more direct stimulus checks will be sent out next year, Carter Seuthe, CEO of Credit Summit Payday Loan Consolidation, told the personal finance resource website GOBankingRates.
The current administration has shown little appetite for passing such measures by executive order, and Congress has been dragging its feet on passing major infrastructure spending, he added.
4th Stimulus Check Seems Fairly Slim
At this point, Id say the odds of another round of stimulus checks are fairly slim, he said.
How To Track Your Stimulus Check Online
With the IRS Get My Payment tool, you can get a daily update on your payment status. The online app can also alert you with a message if theres a problem with your payment that you may need to address. Another option is to create an online account with the IRS, if you havent already.
If you get sent a plus-up payment after your 2020 tax return is processed, the amount of your third payment will no longer show up in the tool, according to the IRS. In that case you will only see the status of your plus-up payment.
If you expect your payment to come in the mail, you can use a free tool from the US Postal Service to track your mailed stimulus payment.

Child Tax Credit: December End
Some families received another form of stimulus aid when the IRS in July deposited the first of six monthly cash payments into bank accounts of parents who qualify for the Child Tax Credit . Families on average received $423 in their first CTC payment, according to an analysis of Census data from the left-leaning advocacy group Economic Security Project.
Eligible families received up to $1,800 in cash through December, with the money parceled out in equal installments over the six months from July through December. The aid was due to the expanded CTC, which is part of President Joe Biden’s American Rescue Plan.
Families who qualify received $300 per month for each child under 6 and $250 for children between 6 to 17 years old. Several families that spoke to CBS MoneyWatch said the extra money would go toward child care, back-to-school supplies and other essentials.
While progressives and some Democrats urged lawmakers to continue the enhanced CTC, it appears stalled at the moment. That means families won’t receive a CTC payment in January or beyond.
Stimulus Aid That’s Received The Ok

Child tax credit payments for families: A temporary expansion of the child tax credit for 2021 sends qualifying families up to $3,600 for each child — you can calculate your total here. The advance partial payments of up to $300 per dependent, which began this summer, are issued monthly through the end of the year, with a final payment in 2022.
Parents also have the option of deferring the advance monthly checks and instead get their payment in the spring. There is no cap on the total credit amount that a family with multiple children can claim. If the credit is more than what’s owed in taxes, families will receive the excess amount as a tax refund next year. Plus, low-income families can qualify for the maximum credit. Here’s more on child tax credit payment dates and eligibility.
Additional federal stimulus money: The third stimulus payments of up to $1,400 are still going out in batches to those who are eligible through the end of 2021. The IRS is also sending out “plus-up” payments, which is extra money making up the difference between the stimulus amount you already received and the amount you’re eligible to receive .
Also, if an individual in your family becomes a dependent in 2021, such as a newborn or foster child, they could also be eligible for a $1,400 payment. According to the tax agency, for any new qualifying dependents to receive the third payment you’d have to claim a Recovery Rebate Credit on your 2021 tax return that you’ll file in 2022.
