Th Stimulus Checks Given Out To Teachers

Report: A fourth stimulus check might be coming

For other states, their fourth stimulus checks are taking on a new lookas teacher bonuses! Its no secret that teachers are the unsung heroes of our communities, and theyve been put through the wringer during the pandemic. To show them the appreciation that they more than deserve, some states are giving teachers a fourth stimulus.

  • Florida

In Florida, teachers will be getting a $1,000 bonusalthough some of the details of who qualifies are up in the air. If youre a teacher in the Sunshine State, check with your district to see if you can get in on this.14

  • Georgia

Georgia is extending the $1,000 bonus to both full-time teachers and administrators. Part-time teachers will still score a bonus of $500, and theres even a plan in place to give a bonus to pre-K teachers.15

  • Michigan

Earlier in 2021, Michigan used a grant to pay bonuses of $500 to its teachers and $250 to school support staff. No word yet on whether theyll give out another bonus, though.16

  • Tennessee

Our very own Tennessee is giving full-time teachers $1,000 and part-time teachers $500 to thank them for their hard work.17

  • Texas

Now, nothing has happened statewide yet, but some districts in the Lone Star State are giving out their own bonuses. Districts are gifting things like 24% raises, a $500 bonus, and even a $2,000 incentive for some teachers to return to the classroom.18

More Third Stimulus Payment Money For Some In 2022

Parents who added a child in 2021 could be getting up to $1,400 after they file their 2021 taxes this coming spring thanks to the American Rescue Plan. The money won’t come as a direct check but will be part of the overall tax return.

The 2021 Economic Impact Payment — colloquially known as the third stimulus check — was actually an advance on what is called the 2021 Recovery Rebate Credit. What that means is that the $1,400 stimulus check most individual Americans received in 2021 is, in fact, money they would have gotten after filing their taxes in the spring of 2022 as a Recovery Rebate Credit.

In other words, millions of Americans already got part of their tax refund 12 months early.

“The bottom line is that’s money that’s going out almost immediately to millions of people as a tax credit in advance of putting it on a tax return in the next year,” said Raphael Tulino, IRS spokesman.

However, the IRS was going off of 2019 or 2020 tax returns for its information on the third EIP. It was using that information to determine if taxpayers would get stimulus money for their dependents. If eligible parents had a child born into their family in 2021, they can request the Recovery Rebate Credit on their taxes to get the payment for that child.

It gets more complicated with adoption because all the paperwork and processes to finalize the adoption must be completed first.

This does not pertain to the first or second stimulus payments that were paid in 2020.

Bringing Inflation Under Control Is The Goal

Over the course of 2021, many economists and policymakers at the Federal Reserve felt that the higher-than-normal inflation would be temporary. However, as the level of inflation continued to rise to new heights by the end of the year the consensus shifted, and the central bank decided to be more hawkish.

In January the Fed announced that it would begin tapering its stimulus programs which have poured vast amounts of liquidity into the US economy. It has also helped the stock market reach ever greater heights.

Additionally, the central bankers will start increasing interest rates, expected to begin in March, which have been at near zero during the pandemic. The Fed will have a difficult balancing act to pace the fiscal tightening without entrenching inflation by moving too slow or causing a recession if it moves too fast.

Although another stimulus check could help people with the rising cost of living, the fear of driving inflation even higher by injecting even more money into the economy has silenced lawmakers calls to do so.

Cons Of Taking The Monthly Child Tax Credit Payments

  • Youll only get half of the money at tax time. If you take this advance payment of the Child Tax Credit now, just know that youll only see the other half after you file your taxes next yearand not the full amount. Remember, this is an up-front payment of the regular amount you get.
  • You might have to pay some of it back. Now listen up: This is only if your income went up from 2020 to 2021. Lets say you lost your job like so many Americans did in 2020, but then you got a new job in 2021. The tax credit is taking the info it has from your 2020 taxes, so your new income might push you over the limits and start to phase out .
  • Your payment will be sent to whoever claimed the kids on the 2020 tax returns. If youre divorced or separated, these advance Child Tax Credit payments will go to the parent who had the kids listed on their taxes that year.
  • You might need that full amount of money at tax time. If youre self-employed, making quarterly payments, or usually owe money to the IRS, you might want to opt out of monthly payments here. Youll probably need that full amount to help bring down the amount youll pay at tax time.

As of right now, there are no plans for a fourth stimulus check in 2022. That doesnt mean efforts for additional financial assistance amid the coronavirus pandemic are done.

A petition for U.S. adults and $1,000 for children has been signed by 2.97 million people. If it reaches 3 million signatures, the petition will become one of Change.orgs most-signed petitions.

And while that petition has garnered millions of signatures and widespread attention, it appears unlikely it will move Congress to act. Instead, efforts are underway to extend the expanded Child Tax Credit, a measure passed during Marchs American Rescue Plan. The child tax pays parents up to $300 a month for children ages 5 and younger and $250 per child age 6-17. The remainder of the money up to $1,800 can be claimed when filing 2021 taxes in 2022.

The payments started in July and are set to end in December unless extended by Congress.

The $2.2 trillion Build Back Better bill, passed by the House on Nov. 19 and currently before the U. S. Senate would extend the monthly payments through 2022, short of President Joe Bidens proposal to stretch them into 2025.

That measure faces an uphill battle.

Fourth Stimulus Check Amount

The fourth stimulus check amount depends on several factors. If passed, it would probably look similar to the previous checks, although that’s not guaranteed.

For reference, the first stimulus check amounted to as much as $1,200, while the second stimulus check brought $600 to eligible Americans. The third stimulus check, which the IRS is still in the process of distributing, is worth up to $1,400 per person, although the eligibility requirements are narrower.

All three checks gave the full amounts to taxpayers who made up to $75,000 a year, according to their most recent tax returns. Couples filing jointly got the full payment if they had a joint total income of $150,000 or less.

With the first two checks, those making up to $99,000 alone or $198,000 as a couple received prorated payments. With the third check, individuals who earned more than $80,000 per year or $160,000 per year as joint filers got nothing. For children ages 6 to 17, the amount will be $3,000 per child. This is instead of the $2,000-per-child tax credit for 2020.The stimulus bill increased the amount of the credit, and it changed the distribution from a credit taken at tax time to periodic checks. The IRS is still working out the details, but the current thought is that families would receive a payment of $250 to $300 per month per child, depending on the childrens ages.

The $1,400 stimulus checks from the American Rescue Plan continue to go out, with another 2 million checks being sent last week in the latest round. Theyre expected to continue being distributed for a while longer, but in the meantime theres a push underway to pass a fourth stimulus package, joining the two that passed in 2020 and this years American Rescue Plan.

What would such a package look like, and how money would be in each new stimulus check?

Thats unclear, for now. The Biden Administration has not officially announced a proposal for a fourth stimulus, and its unclear if they will.

Back in January, per CBS News, a group of Democratic lawmakers led by Rep. Ilhan Omar of Minnesota pushed for recurring $2,000 checks for the duration of the pandemic. The $2,000 figure came from a tweet from Omar, not from the groups letter.

“One more check is not enough during this public health and economic crisis, the group wrote at the time. “Many families cannot afford to wait for eight months between payments. To truly build back better, families need stability and certainty through ongoing relief they cannot be at the mercy of congressional gridlock.

More recently, a group of Democratic senators called for a fourth stimulus, in a letter to President Biden.
