However, the tool is also for those who did not file either a 2019 or 2020 tax return and did not use the previous nonfilers tool last year to register for stimulus payments.

In other words, individuals who experience homelessness or make little or no income can use this tool to enter their personal details for the IRS’ records so as to receive the $1,400 stimulus checks or claim the recovery rebate credit for any amount of the first two rounds of payments that might have been missed. Tax nonfilers may need to be proactive about claiming a new dependent, too.

How Likely Is A Fourth Stimulus Check

Don’t hold your breath, according to Wall Street analysts.

For one, the Biden administration has focused on infrastructure spending to spark economic growth, betting that an investment in roads, trains and other direct investments will help get people back to work and spur the ongoing recovery.

Secondly, economists have pointed fingers at relief efforts such as the three rounds of stimulus checks for contributing to inflation. Because Americans had cash in their pockets, they boosted spending on goods such as furniture, cars and electronics. Combine that with the supply-chain crunch, and the result was sharply higher inflation, according to economists.

Without new stimulus efforts on the horizon, it’s likely that inflation could moderate in 2022, according to Brad McMillan, the chief investment officer at Commonwealth Financial Network. “One cause of inflation has been an explosion of demand driven by federal stimulus,” he noted in a December report. “But that stimulus has now ended.”

He added, “Yes, we will continue to face inflation and supply problems, but they are moderating and will keep doing so.”

Bringing Inflation Under Control Is The Goal

Over the course of 2021, many economists and policymakers at the Federal Reserve felt that the higher-than-normal inflation would be temporary. However, as the level of inflation continued to rise to new heights by the end of the year the consensus shifted, and the central bank decided to be more hawkish.

In January the Fed announced that it would begin tapering its stimulus programs which have poured vast amounts of liquidity into the US economy. It has also helped the stock market reach ever greater heights.

Additionally, the central bankers will start increasing interest rates, expected to begin in March, which have been at near zero during the pandemic. The Fed will have a difficult balancing act to pace the fiscal tightening without entrenching inflation by moving too slow or causing a recession if it moves too fast.

Although another stimulus check could help people with the rising cost of living, the fear of driving inflation even higher by injecting even more money into the economy has silenced lawmakers calls to do so.

Why $1400 Checks And Not $2000

Biden’s plan called for $1,400 checks for most Americans, which on top of the $600 provided in the most recent COVID-19 bill would bring the total to the $2,000 that Biden has called for.

But Biden initially did not make that differentiation. Biden said on January 4 while campaigning for Democrats Jon Ossoff and Raphael Warnock ahead of Georgia’s Senate runoff elections, “Their election will put an end to the block in Washington of that $2,000 stimulus check. That money that will go out the door immediately.”

Will I Be Able To Call The Irs With Issues

You will need to wait for the IRS to finish normal processing of the recovery rebate payments . Until then you will have to rely on the Get My Payment IRS tool to track the status of your payment. And given the IRS will be closing out 2021 tax season and refund processing, I expect will be very challenging to get through to an IRS agent to speak about your missing or delayed payment.

Well Need Recurring Checks Until The Crisis Is Over

A group of more than 50 progressive lawmakers has signed a letter sent to President BIden and Vice President Kamala Harris, calling for the next round of stimulus checks to be replaced with a recurring payment programme. The current proposal from the Democrats includes a single $1,400 payment for eligible Americans.

However this will be just the third direct payment to be agreed in nearly a year, and it seems unlikely that another stimulus bill as big as the American Rescue Plan will be passed for some time.

Biden has promised to support those most vulnerable and the recurring stimulus check proposal would offer greater support to working women and ethnic minorities who have been particularly hit by the pandemic. Harris actually supported a similar proposal last year while Senator for California, but is highly unlikely to split from BIden on this issue now.
