You Have New Or Older Dependents
Some people may get their checks quickly, but find that the amounts are incorrect that could most likely be due to their dependents.
The third stimulus check entitles dependents to receive $1,400 each, but the IRS might not be aware of your children in some cases. For instance, if you had a baby in 2020 but haven’t yet filed your tax return, the IRS will rely on your 2019 tax return to determine how much you are owed, which won’t show the new child because they hadn’t yet been born.
Example: A couple with a baby born in 2020 should receive $4,200, but if the IRS doesn’t have their 2020 tax return, it will issue a payment of $2,800 for the two adults in the family. But IRS and Treasury officials said March 12 that families in this situation can be assured they will eventually get the additional $1,400 for their baby.
When they file their 2020 tax return, the IRS will check if they are owed more, such as in the case of a baby born last year. If that happens, the IRS will automatically issue the additional $1,400 check to the family, officials said.
Similar issues could occur for people who normally don’t file tax returns and who used the non-filers tool to report their dependents last year. Because the first two rounds of checks excluded dependents above the age of 17, the IRS didn’t count older teens and adult dependents on the non-filer tool.
Stimulus Check Delays For Some Turbotax And H& r Block Users
Not for the first time, some who utilised tax preparation services have reported that their stimulus check payments were sent to an incorrect bank account. In the past it was thought that the money had been incorrectly sent to a bank account created solely for tax return purposes, which the recipient has no access to.
Many said that they updated their account information with TurboTax after similar issues arose with the last stimulus payment, but there appears to be similar issues now.
A TurboTax spokesperson said the account issue is affecting a small group of customers who updated their banking information directly with TurboTax during distribution of the second stimulus check, adding: Weve reached out directly to these customers with information about their stimulus payment.”
Most Americans To Receive Direct Payment Of $1400
ORLANDO, Fla. Wells Fargo and Chase bank customers will not receive their stimulus payments until mid-week at the earliest.
Wells Fargo and JPMorgan Chase told customers the $1,400 direct payments would not be processed until at least Wednesday, drawing the anger of many, especially since some people started receiving their money on Friday.
Customers raged against the Wall Street banks on Twitter, with some threatening to close their accounts. Others questioned whether the banks were intentionally withholding the funds in order to make interest off of peoples overdraft fees.
Wells Fargo said it would provide all of the direct deposits according to the effective date provided by the U.S. Treasury, and added that its not holding onto the money. In a statement to FOX Business, Wells Fargo spokesperson Jim Seitz said the government will release the money in multiple phases, meaning not everyone will receive their check at the same time.
JPMorgan, meanwhile, encouraged account holders to set up alerts so they know when the money arrives.
President Joe Biden signed the American Rescue Plan into law last week, injecting another $1.9 trillion into the U.S. economy.
Individuals can again check the status of their stimulus checks via the IRSs Get My Payment tool.

Stimulus Check Investments Could Cause Another Boost For Asset Prices

Entrepreneur Anthony Scaramucci says that the sitmulus bill could actually lead to an increase in asset prices, with wages unlikely to catch up the new levels. Even the $600 stimulus checks from Janaury were named as a key factor in the staggering rise of so-called ‘meme stocks’ like GameStop.
For investors looking to make the most of their $1,400 payments, Scaramucci suggests that Bitcoincould actually be a relatively safe bet in the long term. The likes of Morgan Stanley are looking to pick up more of the cryptocurrency as a counter balance against the general trend of governments increasing the total market cap of traditional currencies.

Watch Out For Stimulus Check Fraudsters
The IRS has again warned stimulus check recipients to be careful of scammers looking to take the $1,400 direct payments. They have uncovered a scam that sees fraudsters pretend to be from the tax authorities and instruct their victims to purchase gift cards, which the thieves take themselves.
The Federal Trade Commission warns: “You don’t need to pay anyone to get your money. Anyone who tells you to pay a fee to get your economic impact payment is a scammer.”

What If Youve Accidentally Thrown Away The Confirmation Letter
If you are eligible for the stimulus check and the IRS has issued it, it will send you a notice by mail to your last known address within 15 days after making the payment, to confirm delivery. The letter contains information on when and how the payment was made and how to report it to the IRS if you didnt receive your check. The letter is helpful if you didnt receive your full payment and need to claim your money later.
You Lost Income In 2020 But Not Yet Filed A Return
Some people could also receive less than they are entitled to if their income dropped in 2020 but they haven’t yet filed their 2020 tax returns. This could happen for a single person who earned $90,000 in 2019, which is above the cutoff of $80,000 to receive a payment, but lost their job in 2020 and only earned $45,000 last year as a result.
If that person hasn’t filed their 2020 return yet, they won’t receive a stimulus payment because the IRS will base its calculation on their 2019 return, which showed they aren’t eligible. But as soon as they file their 2020 tax return with the lower income, the IRS will issue stimulus payment to them, IRS and Treasury officials said.

Irs Will Automatically Issue Refunds To Americans Who Missed Out On Benefits Tax Break
IRS Commissioner Chuck Rettig says the body will automatically refund eligible Americans who missed out on a tax break on unemployment benefits because they submitted their 2020 tax returns before the scheme was announced.
As part of President Biden’s $1.9tn coronavirus stimulus bill, people who earned under $150,000 in 2020 will not face federal income taxes on the first $10,200 of unemployment benefits paid to them over the course of the year.
Americans can claim this tax waiver in their tax return for 2020, but many had already submitted theirs before Biden signed the relief bill into law on 11 March.
“Do not file an amended return at this time,” Rettig said on Thursday, per Bloomberg. “We believe that we will be able to handle this on our own. We believe that we will be able to automatically issue refunds associated with the $10,200.”

You Moved Or Changed Your Bank Account
This could be a worry for people who received a mailed check or pre-paid debit card but recently moved, as well as people who changed their bank accounts.
The IRS said it will open up its “Get My Payment” tool on IRS.gov this week. The site is meant to inform people about the status of their payment, but won’t allow them to update their bank account information, Treasury and IRS officials said March 12. However, the officials added that the agencies have been working on checking whether the bank account information they have is correct for consumers.
The downside: If a check is issued to a closed or incorrect account, the IRS will need to reissue the payment in a check and mail it to your house. That could add to your wait.

Wells Fargo will process all of the direct deposits according to the effective date provided by the U.S. Treasury, Wells Fargo said.

Charities Look To Support Homeless People With Receipt Of Stimulus Checks
The $1,400 direct payments have already been sent to around 90 million Americans but there is one group that is expected to find it particularly difficult to get the vital support.
The economic consequences of the pandemic has left millions struggling to cover essential expenses like accomodation, and the growing number of homeless people will likely find it more difficult than most to get their stimulus check.
One charity, Invisible People, said of the potential problems that homeless people face:“Between filing taxes, finding a stable address, and waiting for the funds to land in a bank account or mailbox, people experiencing homelessness often face unnecessary delays in receiving their stimulus payments.”

Chase Bank News: Wells Fargo Chase Criticized Over Timing Of Third Stimulus Check Delivery
From Fox Business:
Wells Fargo and JPMorgan Chase told customers they may not receive the third round of stimulus checks until at least Wednesday, drawing ire from some Americans who were hoping to see the money arrive sooner.
Millions of Americans are poised to receive direct cash payments worth up to $1,400 after President Biden signed into law the American Rescue Plan last week, injecting another $1.9 trillion into the nations pandemic-battered economy. Although the Internal Revenue Service has said the official payment date for the money is March 17, it has already started distributing the money.

Wells Fargo said it would provide all of the direct deposits according to the effective date provided by the U.S. Treasury, and said its not holding onto the money. You Haven’t Filed Your 2019 Or 2020 Tax Returns

Many people probably haven’t filed their 2020 tax returns yet, given that the deadline for getting in your tax forms is April 15. In that case, there’s no reason to worry the IRS will use your 2019 tax return to determine how much you should receive.
But this becomes trickier for people who aren’t required to file tax returns, such as those with no or very little earnings, which can be the case for some people on Social Security.
That became an issue with the first round of stimulus checks, especially since many of these people were in deepest need of the first round’s $1,200 payments and it wasn’t an insignificant number. The IRS said it distributed more than 22 million stimulus payments last year that weren’t based on filed tax returns.
Because of that issue, the IRS last year created a website specifically for non-filers, where they could provide their bank account information or addresses to the agency, as well as provide their number of dependents, who were each eligible for $500 in stimulus aid at the time.
But the non-filers website has been closed since late last year, and IRS and Treasury officials said on a March 12 conference call with reporters that they are urging non-filers to file a 2020 tax return to ensure they get all the payments and tax credits they are owed.

Payment Groups Based On How Your Money Is Sent
According to the IRS website, there are three payment groups on how you may receive your money.
- Direct deposit recipients: If you have included your direct deposit details on your tax return previously, you will be the first group to receive your payment. However, you may face a bounced check if you have provided details of a temporary account.
- Paper checks: After direct deposits, the IRS normally sends out physical checks using USPS. A physical check can take weeks to arrive by mail, but the check can be deposited or cashed right away once it arrives.
- EIP cards: This payment type arrives as a prepaid debit card you must activate online to use. The IRS issues EIP cards last, delaying the payment’s arrival for this recipient group by weeks.
Just because you got your payment through direct deposit the first two times doesn’t mean you’ll get it that way again.
