The Irs Has An Online Tool That Lets You Track The Status Of Your Third Stimulus Check
The IRS has already delivered over 100 million third stimulus checks. But if you’re still asking yourself “where’s my stimulus check,” the IRS has an online portal that lets you track your payment. It’s called the “Get My Payment” tool, and it’s an updated version of the popular tool Americans used to track the status of their first- and second-round stimulus checks.
Note that you can’t check the status of your first- or second-round stimulus payments with the updated tool. To find the amounts of these payments, create an online IRS account or refer to IRS Notices 1444 and 1444-B, which the IRS mailed after first- and second-round stimulus checks were issued. If you didn’t get an earlier payment, or your received less than the full amount, you might be able to get what you’re owed by claiming the Recovery Rebate credit on your 2020 tax return. Third-round stimulus payments aren’t used to calculate the 2020 Recovery Rebate credit, but they will be used to figure the credit amount on your 2021 tax return.
The updated “Get My Payment” tool more-or-less works the same way as the portal used for first- and second-round stimulus checks. But here’s a refresher course on what the tool does, what information you need to provide, and what information the tool gives you. Check it out now so you know what to expect before entering the portal on the IRS’s website.
Whether To File Another Irs Form
As was the case with the first and second check, if you filed a 2018, 2019 or 2020 tax return or receive government benefits, the IRS should automatically send your third check without you having to do anything.
If, however, you’re a nonfiler, a US citizen or permanent resident, had a gross income in 2019 under $12,200 — or $24,400 as a married couple — and didn’t file a return for 2018 or 2019, you may need to give the IRS a bit of information before it can process your payment. Since the IRS’ Non-Filers tool is now closed, you may need to file for that money on a 2021 tax return in the form of a recovery rebate credit, described above.
Here’s more information about who should file an amended tax form and who shouldn’t.
Receiving your stimulus check money isn’t always easy.
Stimulus Checks And Direct Deposit
While Get My Payment allows you to give bank direct deposit information to the IRS, you cannot change bank information with the IRS if it already has an account for you on file. Why? As the IRS explains, “To help protect against potential fraud, the tool also does not allow people to change bank account information already on file with the IRS.” You also can’t change your form of payment if the IRS has already scheduled it for delivery.
If you haven’t filed your 2019 taxes , you might want to do that now. Many people can file federal tax returns for free, and tax-prep services like TurboTax and H& R Block are easy to use. The deadline for filing taxes in 2020 was moved from April 15 to July 15.
The Get My Payment app was designed for people who file federal taxes. The IRS has a separate spot online where non-tax filers, including many low-income earners, can enter their information to get stimulus checks for themselves and qualifying dependents.
Who gets stimulus checks first? The Treasury Department says that the first recipients of stimulus checks officially called “economic impact payments,” part of the $2 trillion CARES Act to provide economic relief amid the coronavirus pandemic were taxpayers who have already filed their 2019 tax returns and have provided direct deposit information to the IRS. Many of these payments began showing up in taxpayers’ bank accounts on Wednesday, April 15, or even earlier.

Can You Use The Portal If You Didn’t File A Tax Return
You couldn’t use the “Get My Payment” tool to track the status of your first stimulus check if you didn’t file a 2018 or 2019 federal income tax return. However, there was another online tool that non-filers could use to give the IRS with the information it needed to process a payment.
The non-filers tool wasn’t used for second stimulus checks, though. Instead, if you didn’t file a 2019 tax return, and you didn’t use the non-filers tool to get your first-round payment, then you have to wait to claim your second stimulus check money as a Recovery Rebate credit on your 2020 return.
The IRS is not using the non-filers tool for third-round stimulus checks, either. As a result, if you don’t file a 2019 or 2020 tax return, you’ll have to claim any money you’re owed as a Recovery Rebate credit on your 2021 return, which you won’t file until next year. However, you can avoid having to wait until next year by filing a 2020 return before the May 17, 2021, deadline.

Everything you need to know
- 4th Stimulus Check Update.Discover the latest news for every single state
The Golden State Stimulus Check is coming to the aid of many Californians, with federal unemployment benefit programs coming to an end on September 6, in the form of either a 500, 600 or 1,100 dollar payment.
For those who are expecting to receive some financial aid in the form of the Golden State Stimulus Check, you may be wondering how you can track the payment to see if it is on its way or not.
Below, we will explain the simple processes you need to do in order to track the progress of your payment.
The California Franchise Tax Board have updated their website in order to provide assistance for the Californians looking to track their Golden State Stimulus Check payment.
Try Using Another Browser With Get My Payment
With the first check, we heard from several readers that accessing the IRS’ Get My Payment tool from a different browser than the one originally used could be the key to success to using the service. In particular, some CNET readers pointed out that trying a browser other than worked for them. Firefox, Microsoft Edge and Apple’s Safari are common alternatives.
Tracking Your California Stimulus Payment
The majority of eligible Californians will receive their check via a direct deposit into their bank, which should appear between now and October 15. These checks were sent out from September 1.
If you were late submitting your taxes, however, doing so after August 20, you should allow an additional 45 days for your tax return and check to be processed.
Meanwhile, physical checks will start to be sent out from October 4 and will continue until the end of December. The date that you can expect to receive your physical check depends on the last three digits of your zip code.
“If your tax return is processed after the date of your scheduled ZIP code payment, allow up to 60 days,” said the CFTB.
What To Do About A Missing Or Stolen Eip Debit Card
At least 5 million people will receive their third stimulus check on a prepaid debit card called the Economic Impact Payment Card, instead of a paper check. For the third payment, the EIP card arrives in a white envelope sent from “Economic Impact Payment Card.” The letter will have a US Department of the Treasury seal.
The card has the Visa name on the front and the issuing bank, MetaBank®, N.A., on the back. Information included with the EIP Card explains that this is your Economic Impact Payment. If you receive an EIP Card, visit EIPcard.com for more information.
If you’ve misplaced or thrown away your card, the EIP card service has an FAQ on what to do if your card is lost or stolen. You can also call 800-240-8100 to request a replacement. It’s free, according to a spokesperson for the Treasury Department. To request a new card, press option 2 when prompted.
However, the EIP card website says, “Your Card will be deactivated to prevent anyone from using it and a new replacement Card will be ordered. Fees may apply.” We recommend calling the above number for a lost or stolen card and speaking to a representative. If you may have lost or thrown away a paper check, read the mail fraud section below.
Didn’t Get The Full Third Payment Claim The 2021 Recovery Rebate Credit
You may be eligible to claim a Recovery Rebate Credit on your 2021 federal tax return if you didn’t get a third Economic Impact Payment or got less than the full amount.
In early 2022, we’ll send Letter 6475 to the address we have on file for you confirming the total amount of your third Economic Impact Payment and any plus-up payments you received for tax year 2021. You will need this information to accurately calculate your 2021 Recovery Rebate Credit when you file your 2021 federal tax return in 2022.
What If I Havent Received Mine Yet
If the IRS has issued your stimulus check, you will receive notice of the date it will be mailed. Be patient and it will arrive at the address filed with your tax return. Unfortunately, some people have received a message stating Payment Status Not Available. When you receive this notification, you will likely have to take action. There may be a reason you have not received your stimulus check.
This message typically indicates that the IRS does not have your 2018 or 2019 tax return on file. If you have already prepared your return, it may take a little time to send and process the documents. Check back regularly with the Get My Payment app. You can even download it to your mobile device so you can track mailed stimulus checks.
On the other hand, if you have already received your refund there may be other reasons for the message. You should contact the Economic Impact Payment information line at 800-919-9835 with your questions.

Am I Eligible To Get A Stimulus Check

According to the CARES Act, the Internal Revenue Service has issued an Economic Impact Payment to all U.S. citizens and resident aliens. This means any adult with a valid Social Security number and not claimed as a dependent will receive a stimulus check. Based on the available information, approximately 80% of Americans will receive a full or partial relief payment.
Individual filers earning less than $75,000 will receive a check for $1,200. If you are the head of household, the threshold is $112,500. Couples who filed jointly but earned less than $150,000 will receive $2,400. You are also entitled to an additional $500 for each qualified child under the age of 17.
There is a graduated scale that also allows people above these limits to receive partial payments. Individual filers earning up to $99,000 can still receive one, but stimulus checks are completely phased out for anyone above this threshold. This figure is $136,500 for heads of household and $198,000 for joint filers. If you are uncertain how much to expect, you can use this tool to help you calculate the amount of your stimulus check.
Why Can’t I Get On The Get My Payment Site
The IRS said this can happen if people don’t provide security answers that match the tax agency’s information over the course of several attempts to log in. The IRS asks for personal information such as a Social Security number, birthdate and address.
“If you can’t verify your identity, you won’t be able to use Get My Payment,” the IRS said. “Don’t contact the IRS for assistance with a lockout IRS assisters can’t unlock your account.”
However, the site will allow you to try again after 24 hours.
Problem #: The Irs Doesnt Have Enough Information To Issue My Stimulus Payment
“Payment Status Not Available” could also mean that the IRS “Needs More Information” to issue your stimulus payment.
If Needs More Information displays in your results, then your payment was returned because the Postal Service was unable to deliver it. The IRS says this means you were issued a check, rather than your payment being direct deposited into your bank account.
Dont worry, this is an easy fix.
In order to have your payment reissued as a direct deposit, you can update information for a bank account, prepaid debit card, or an alternative financial product that can be associated with a routing and account number.
If you do not provide updated account information, the IRS will not be able to reissue your payment.
More details on how to update your information are on file here.

You Haven’t Filed Taxes For 2018 Or 2019
In most cases, the IRS determines whether someone is eligible for a stimulus check, and how much they’ll get, based on their most recent tax return â for 2019, or 2018 if the individual hasn’t filed yet this year. The deadline to file federal taxes has been pushed back from April 15 to July 15 this year, but nonetheless it may be in your best interest to file your taxes sooner than later.
People who have already filed their taxes do not have to do anything to get their checks. However, some people are not required to file taxes, and they could miss out on stimulus payments if they do not take action. Low-income earners â with gross income of $12,200 or less â do not need to file federal tax returns. For these people to receive a stimulus payment, they must register at the IRS’s “Non-Filers: Enter Payment Info Here” page.
Who Benefits From These Stimulus Check Payments
The stimulus payments, it has been accorded, would be working perfectly for those families that have more children and are trying to earn less than $150,000 annually. This comes up as the direct aid amount has been based on the number of eligible individuals in every single household. On a national level, the average household has an eligibility rate of 2.5 people, but in states like Utah- the range goes up to 3.1 per family.
Under the American Rescue Plan of Joe Biden, several children have been deemed eligible for the same amount of money that has been accorded to adults- which is $1,400.
Fourth Stimulus Check Update: Some Americans Are Receiving $1500 Payments Or More
The Internal Revenue Service is sending out what may be the last monthly payment to parents today and for some taxpayers, it’ll be a hefty amount of $1,500 or more.
The IRS has been sending out monthly payments to eligible parents since July to taxpayers who are eligible for the advanced Child Tax Credit. Congress‘s passage of the American Rescue Plan, a $1.9 trillion relief package, increased the amount parents receive for the Child Tax Credit and enabled them to receive half their allotted sum in monthly payments.
While many eligible taxpayers have been receiving the monthly payments since July, families who weren’t receiving payments could receive half their allotted credit amount in December if they signed up on IRS.gov before November 15.
The American Rescue Plan increased the credit from $2,000 for any eligible child, to $3,600 for a child under 6 years old and $3,000 for eligible children between 6 and 17 years old. That broke down to monthly payments of $300 for children under 6 and $250 for all other eligible children.
A family that only started receiving payments in December would receive $1,800 for each eligible child under 6 and $1,500 for all other eligible children.
Families will claim the second half of the credit when they file their taxes next year, but some legislators are hoping to keep monthly payments going through 2022.
