Seniors Worry Most About The Cost Of Food

4th Stimulus Check Update December 31th, 2021 – MONEY FOR SENIOR SSDI SSI VA

In particular, the league says, seniors have identified food as their fastest-growing expense.

Since the beginning of the year, nearly one in five seniors have visited a food pantry or applied for the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program , formerly known as food stamps, the league reported last month.

Its highly disturbing that such a large number of survey participants have been forced to access food pantries, says Mary Johnson, Social Security policy analyst for the Senior Citizens League. Over the past 12 months, the price of bacon is up 11%, beef up 10.6 % and fresh fish up 8.5%.

As a result, one in four seniors have reported going without meat, poultry, fish and dairy.

Survey participants added their next-biggest financial concerns were housing and medical bills.

At least for now, the Senior Citizens League argues, a $1,400 check would keep people from skipping meals just to afford necessities like home insurance.

The Irs Is Finally Sending Third Stimulus Check Payments For Social Security And Other Federal Beneficiaries Who Didn’t File A 2019 Or 2020 Tax Return

Millions of seniors who didn’t file a 2019 or 2020 tax return have already started receiving their third stimulus checks. After receiving data from the Social Security Administration in late March, the IRS was able to start processing third stimulus payments for approximately 30 million seniors. Since most of these payments will be paid electronically through direct deposits or to existing Direct Express debit cards, the funds have already been delivered to many of these seniors. For those still waiting, more payments will arrive this week and in the following weeks.

Third stimulus payments are generally based on information found on your 2019 or 2020 tax return. That’s why the tax agency needed data from the SSA to send out checks to seniors who haven’t file a recent tax return.

Will Lawmakers Get On Board

Sending Out! 4th Stimulus Check for Social Security, SSDI, SSI, Low Income Letter

Whether lawmakers agree to a senior-specific stimulus check is yet to be determined. But it’s clear that seniors who get the bulk of their income from Social Security have struggled for years, and that could continue even if 2022’s raise is as generous as experts are thinking it’ll be.

Let’s remember that Medicare Part B premium hikes will also be the wild card seniors will have to grapple with in conjunction with that raise. If Part B costs go up enough, that alone will erode whatever benefit seniors might glean from higher Social Security paychecks.

You might not have received your payment or received a lesser amount because it was withheld by the tax authorities or due to omission. You can now receive the previous amount by claiming it in the 2020 tax returns. It is necessary to file a return with the IRS to claim it. Change In Income Can Affect How Much Stimulus Money You Receive

Many Americans lost their jobs or had their hours reduced dramatically, which is likely going to impact their total income for tax year 2020. This is noteworthy because your 2019 tax return may not be reflective of your current income status. For example, someone may have made $125,000 during tax year 2019, but suddenly lost their job in early April 2020 causing their total income for 2020 to take a nosedive. Unfortunately, if the IRS uses the 2019 tax return, this individual might be disqualified from receiving a COVID-19 stimulus check or will receive a greatly reduced amount. If you find yourself in this situation, make sure to file your 2020 tax return and pursue a stimulus payment rebate in 2021.
