What Are Washingtons Plans For Other Stimulus Aid

Stimulus Check 4th Update Today MAY 26TH 2022 – YES..! APPROVED FOR LOW INCOME

Since the American Rescue Plan became law in March, the White House has proposed two packages the American Jobs Plan and the American Families Plan neither of which called for more stimulus aid. Currently, the White Houses focus is on the infrastructure spending deal. President Joe Biden is open to a range of ideas regarding stimulus aid, according to a June statement by White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki, but she also said he already put forward what would be the most effective for the short term.

The new scaled-back compromise of the $1 trillion bipartisan infrastructure deal, which was agreed to on July 28, doesnt include anything related to human infrastructure it doesnt address child care, improved wages or job training. Instead, those elements will be included in a $3.5 trillion reconciliation package. While the Senate took the first step toward approving the package through budget resolution, Congress likely will not pass either bill for months.

Its been some months since Democratic members of the House and Senate argued for another stimulus check. In late March, a group of lawmakers asked Biden to include regular stimulus payments in his next stimulus package. In May, several members of the House Ways and Means Committee made a similar request. Citing increased poverty and spiraling debt among Americans, they noted that most people spent relief checks on monthly expenses or essentials such as food, utilities, rent and mortgage payments.

How Likely Is A Fourth Stimulus Check

Don’t hold your breath, according to Wall Street analysts.

For one, the Biden administration has focused on infrastructure spending to spark economic growth, betting that an investment in roads, trains and other direct investments will help get people back to work and spur the ongoing recovery.

Secondly, economists have pointed fingers at relief efforts such as the three rounds of stimulus checks for contributing to inflation. Because Americans had cash in their pockets, they boosted spending on goods such as furniture, cars and electronics. Combine that with the supply-chain crunch, and the result was sharply higher inflation, according to economists.

Without new stimulus efforts on the horizon, it’s likely that inflation could moderate in 2022, according to Brad McMillan, the chief investment officer at Commonwealth Financial Network. “One cause of inflation has been an explosion of demand driven by federal stimulus,” he noted in a December report. “But that stimulus has now ended.”

He added, “Yes, we will continue to face inflation and supply problems, but they are moderating and will keep doing so.”

Fourth Stimulus Check: Petition Surpasses 3 Million

Stimulus Check Update: These States Will Send Out Payments In June

Americans in two states and homeowners across the country could see additional COVID relief checks this month.

While it remains unclear whether there might be a fourth payment from the federal government, Maine and New Mexico residents are eligible to receive stimulus checks thanks to state governors and lawmakers who pushed for more payments in light of decades-high inflation.

In Maine, the first round of $850 relief checks will go out this month to residents who have filed 2021 state income tax returns. As the state receives more income tax returns, the payments will go out until the end of the year.

To be eligible, individuals must file their state income tax returns by October 31. But they cannot be claimed as a dependent on another’s return and must have a federal adjusted gross income of less than $100,000 for those filing as single, $150,000 for a head of household and $200,000 for couples filing jointly.

It is estimated that 858,000 residents will receive the stimulus checks, which will total $729.3 million.

Tax rebates in New Mexico are also expected to roll out in June.

The stimulus measure approved by the Legislature earlier this year will provide refund payments of $250 for single filers or $500 for joint filers. Second payments in the same amount will be sent out in August.

Application for the rebates is not necessary. All New Mexico residents who filed their income tax returns by May 31 will receive the payments automatically.

Find: 91% of Low-Income Families Are Using the Child Tax Credit for Basic Necessities

Toward the middle of the pandemic, as Americans were receiving stimulus money to help make ends meet, there had been discussions of a Universal Basic Income. After all, the stimulus money helped speed economic recovery. The New York Times reported that the federal funds helped curb housing and food insecurity.

However, talks of a UBI fizzled even as the pandemic raged on. By spring 2021 it seemed as if UBI would not come to fruition, and even the chances of a fourth stimulus check were slim. Then, a handful of states such as California began issuing one-time or monthly payments to qualified residents. The government focused its money on issuing advanced Child Tax Credits to help reduce childhood poverty.

But the hope for additional stimulus funds continues.

In March, 21 Democratic lawmakers signed a letter to President Joe Biden asking for recurring stimulus payments for the duration of the pandemic. Meanwhile, seven different petitions calling for $2,000 monthly stimulus checks are gaining traction online. The petitions have collected 4 million signatures so far.

While the stimulus checks and now-expired Child Tax Credit provided direct aid to families, “most federal aid programs miss the mark, and only reach a fraction of the intended recipients,” noted Greg Nasif, political director of Humanity Forward.

He added, “They barely functioned even before the pandemic and they leave parents with a full-time job navigating bureaucratic hurdles.” In his view, providing “speedy, efficient, direct cash support” is the best option for helping struggling families.

Many people never applied for unemployment benefits because they didn’t think they were eligible, while others may have given up due to long waits and other issues.

Even those who qualified for aid didn’t always receive it. Only 4 in 10 jobless workers actually received unemployment aid, according to a from economist Eliza Forsythe.

Stimulus checks: Stimulus payments of up to $1,400 have gone out to those who meet the requirements. Theres also money going to certain individuals in the form of plus-up payments.

Child tax credit: A temporary expansion of the child tax credit for 2021 sends qualifying families up to $3,600 for each child you can calculate your child tax credit total here. The advance partial payments, which began July 15, will be issued monthly and last through the end of the year, with a final payment in 2022.

Federal unemployment bonus: A weekly $300 unemployment bonus was extended to Sept. 6, as was Pandemic Unemployment Assistance to gig workers, freelancers and the self-employed. However, over half of state governments chose to opt out of the extended benefits before Sept. 6, so millions of jobless Americans in those states were cut off from those funds as early as mid-June.

A Change.org petition urging Congress to send out $2,000 in monthly stimulus checks is nearing its goal of 3 million.

Denver restaurant owner Stephanie Bonin started the online petition more than a year ago. As of Wednesday morning, it had 2.6 million signatures and climbing.

Bonin, who owns the restaurant with her husband, calls for targeted stimulus money.

Our country is still deeply struggling. The recovery hasnt reached many Americans the true unemployment rate for low-wage workers is estimated at over 20 percent and many people face large debts from last year for things like utilities, rent and child care. These are all reasons that checks need to be targeted to people who are still struggling and that Congress needs to learn from this past year, she wrote in the latest update.

It took nine months for Congress to send a second stimulus check, and just moments to spend it. Moving forward Congress needs to make recurring checks automatic if certain triggers are met. No more waiting around for our government to send the help we need. Sign to join our movement to get recurring checks to the people, she wrote.

Bonins petition is one of several on Change.org calling for monthly stimulus payments and the largest, according to Newsweek.
