Where’s my stimulus check? Next batch of payments coming this week

Like the past several batches, the tenth also featured a hefty number of checks that targeted recent tax filers who previously did not have the necessary information on file at the IRS.

The Internal Revenue Service and the Treasury Department may be in the late innings of sending out the remaining coronavirusstimulus checks, but it appears that millions of them have yet to be issued under President Joe Bidens American Rescue Plan.

With the eleventh batch set to land in Americans bank accounts as early as the next few days, keep in mind that it was just last week when the tenth batch was disbursed to eligible U.S. taxpayers.

That new tranche of 1.8 million payments lifted the total number of checks sent out over the past two months to approximately one hundred sixty-seven million with a value of $391 billion, representing about 87 percent of all payments for the current third round of stimulus.

Like the past several batches, the tenth also featured a hefty number of checks that targeted recent tax filers who previously did not have the necessary information on file at the IRS.

For example, some federal benefits recipients may need to file a 2020 tax returneven if they dont usually fileto provide information the IRS needs to send payments for a qualifying dependent, the agency continued.

The IRS also has been busy fast-tracking plus-up or supplemental checks, with the latest batch including more than nine hundred thousand of such payments.

Special Reminder For Those Who Don’t Normally File A Tax Return

People who don’t normally file a tax return and don’t receive federal benefits may qualify for these stimulus payments. This includes those experiencing homelessness and others. If you’re eligible and didn’t get a first or second Economic Impact Payment or got less than the full amounts, you may be eligible for the 2020 Recovery Rebate Credit , but you’ll need to file a 2020 tax return. See the special section on IRS.gov: Claiming the 2020 Recovery Rebate Credit if you aren’t required to file a tax return.

Stimulus Update: Second Batch Of $1400 Payments Coming Today Debit Cards Checks In The Mail

A new batch of stimulus payments, many of them paper checks, are on the way.IRS

The Internal Revenue Service will issue another batch of $1,400 stimulus payments this week, the agency announced.

Processing on additional direct deposit payments began Friday with an official pay date of Wednesday, March 24. Some people could see the funds in their accounts earlier, potentially as provisional or pending deposits.

A large number of the latest batch of payments will be mailed for those who do not receive a direct deposit.

The IRS advises anyone who does not receive a direct deposit by March 24 to watch the mail carefully in the coming weeks for a paper check or prepaid debit card, known as an Economic Impact Payment or EIP Card. The IRS didnt stipulate how many payments will be sent out this round.

Before today, the IRS has delivered more than 90 million COVID-19 stimulus checks, mostly in the form of direct deposit, with another150,000 paper checks mailed.

People can check the Get My Payment tool on IRS.gov on to see if the their payment has been scheduled.

The American Rescue Plan, passed by Congress earlier this month, includes $1,400 payments for individuals and dependents and $2,800 for married couples, subject to income limits. The payment amounts are determined by Adjusted Gross Income according to the taxpayers 2019 or 2020 returns.

Additional payments are expected on a weekly basis going forward, according to the IRS.

Calculating The Amount Of Your Third Stimulus Check

Every eligible American will receive a $1,400 third stimulus check “base amount” . The IRS will then tack on an additional $1,400 for each dependent in your family .

Unfortunately, though, not all people will receive the full amount. As with the first two stimulus payments, third-round stimulus checks will be reduced potentially to zero for people reporting an adjusted gross income above a certain amount on their latest tax return. If you filed your most recent tax return as a single filer, your third stimulus check will be phased-out if your AGI is $75,000 or more. That threshold jumps to $112,500 for head-of-household filers, and to $150,000 for married couples filing a joint return. Third-round stimulus checks will be completely phased out for single filers with an AGI above $80,000, head-of-household filers with an AGI over $120,000, and joint filers with an AGI exceeding $160,000.

ANOTHER batch of Golden State stimulus checks could be heading to Californians next year due to a 1970s law.

Over the last several weeks, checks ranging from $600 to $1,100 have landed in the mailboxes and bank accounts of roughly two-thirds of California residents.

The payments are a part of the state’s Golden State Stimulus II program.

In July, California Governor Gavin Newsom‘s signed the state’s $100billion budget.

As part of the plan, the state expects to provide about $12billion in coronavirus relief to 15.2 million California households or about two-thirds of the state’s taxpayers.

The payments are expected to stop at the end of the year however, in 2022, the same law is expected to kick in again.

Californians revolted against taxes in the late 1970s, with voters passing Proposition 13, a landmark measure that limited property tax increases, in 1978.

The following year, Paul Gann, one of the propositions co-sponsors, suggested another tax break.

How Can I Track My Payment

Americans can now check the status of their third stimulus check using the Internal Revenue Services online tracking tool Get My Payment.

The tool allows Americans to follow the scheduled payment date for either a direct deposit or mailed payment. Its an online app that works on desktops, phones, or tablets and doesnt need to be downloaded from an app store. To use the tool, you need to provide basic information:

  • Social Security number or Individual Tax ID Number

  • Date of birth

  • Mailing address

The tracking tool will no longer show the status of the first or second round of stimulus checks the $1,200 payment under the CARES Act and the $600 payments under the December $900 billion stimulus deal. To find the status of those previous rounds, you must create an account.

If you receive the message Payment Status Not Available, the IRS may not have processed your payment yet or you may not be eligible for a payment.

The latest tranche of payments saw another 2.3 million people get the financial support, taking the total number of payments to 169 million. How Will The Government Send You The Stimulus Check

Next batch of stimulus payments coming this week | COVID update for March 23, 2021

The IRS will use the direct deposit information you provided from the taxes youve filed for 2019 or 2020.

You may be able to use the IRS Non-Filers tool to provide your information like the first round. But so far, the IRS has not announced whether that tool will be available if this stimulus bill is passed.

The tool was for eligible U.S. citizens or permanent residents who had gross income below $12,200 for 2019 and werent required to file a 2019 federal tax return.

If you have no direct deposit information on file or if the account provided is now closed, the IRS will mail you a check or pre-paid debit card instead.

If you received no payment and you think youre eligible or you got the wrong amount, youll be able to claim it on your 2021 tax return.

What To Do If You’re Still Missing A Payment

If you have not received your $1,400 stimulus check or the previous two $1,200 or $600 checks you can still claim the money by filing a federal tax return.

This year, the filing deadline has been extended to Monday, May 17. However, those who choose to pursue an extension until Oct. 15 will still be able to claim the money, the IRS has confirmed.

If you have not filed a tax return in the past two years, doing so now can help the IRS process your stimulus check, so long as you are eligible for it.

Your 2020 tax return will also show whether your income dropped since you last filed in 2019, or if you have added a dependent, which could make you eligible for additional funds.

Why Are The Payments Not Released All At Once

With 9 million people waiting for their payments, many were the people that didn’t understand why they didn’t release all the payments at once.

The Tax Board explained that releasing all payments at the same time was unviable for many reasons, including the fact that state workers had to validate eligibility, protect against fraud and issue each stimulus check, at the same time they had to carry on with other mandatory expenses.

“The state has also various processing constraints, including printing and mailing,” it added.

Since Gov. Gavin Newsom passed the largest recovery bill in California in July, three batches of GSS II have already been released, with the last one having been issued on October 5.

Used to getting payments every two weeks, this check comes with bigger delays than ever, more than three weeks apart from the first payment of the month.

Despite not having revealed the exact number of people that will receive the payment at the end of the month, prior experience with other Golden batches sets the stimulus size range between 650,000 and 2 million people.

Approximately 705,000 stimulus checks totaling $480 million were issued in this latest round of Golden State payments, officials say

Highlights Of The Third Round Of Economic Impact Payments

In general, most eligible people will get $1,400 for themselves and $1,400 for each of their qualifying dependents claimed on their tax return. Eligible families will get a payment based on all of their qualifying dependents claimed on their return, including older relatives like college students, adults with disabilities, parents, and grandparents. Unlike the first two payments, the third stimulus payment is not restricted to children under 17.

Because these payments are automatic for most eligible people, contacting either financial institutions or the IRS on payment timing will not speed up their arrival.

The amount of an eligible individual’s EIP3 will be based on the taxpayer’s latest processed tax return from either 2020 or 2019. This includes anyone who registered online at IRS.gov using the agency’s Non-Filers tool last year or submitted a special simplified tax return to the IRS. If the IRS has received and processed a taxpayer’s 2020 return, the agency will instead calculate the amount of the individual’s EIP3 based on that return.

The IRS is working directly with the Social Security Administration, the Railroad Retirement Board, and the Veterans Administration to obtain updated 2021 information for recipients to ensure it is sending automatic payments to as many people as possible. More information about when these payments will be made will be provided on IRS.gov as soon as it becomes available.

Cause Of Delay In California Stimulus Checks

Residents seeking the stimulus check were required to file their state tax returns by October 15. The deadline for filing returns has passed. With a colossal number of forms submitted in the last two weeks, the Tax Board is left struggling to handle the backlog.

The California Franchise Tax Board has referred to several processing constraints, including mailing and printing, that have contributed to the delay. They said that there was a need to authenticate eligibility and protect against fraudulent practices. There was also the issue of GSS II payments that are going out simultaneously along with various mandatory payouts.

The first round of the stimulus checks was sent through direct deposits to bank accounts. But the first round of paper checks went through the postal services after October 6. The time taken for paper checks to reach recipients depends on the ZIP code of the payee.
