Where Is My 2nd Stimulus Check
30. As with the first round of stimulus checks from the CARES Act, Americans can check the status of their payments at https://www.irs.gov/coronavirus/get-my-payment. The Get My Payment tool was reopened on Monday, and will confirm if the IRS has sent your second stimulus check, as well as your first payment.
Where Negotiations Stand Now
On December 20, Congress passed the $908 billion economic relief package. At first, it looked destined that Trump would sign the bill into law, saving millions of people from losing unemployment benefits and the expiration of a federal moratorium on evictions at the end of the month. Except on December 22, Trump surprised his own party and staff with an impromptu late-night video lambasting the legislations $600 payments again, as his administration and party endorsed and demanding it be increased to $2,000. Democrats immediately responded by taking Trump up on his offer, while Republicans planned to shoot down their and Trumps proposal.
After a week of stalling, the president finally agreed to sign the bill on December 27, keeping the federal government running until September 2021 and providing Americans eligible for the initial $1,200 check with $600. He also asked Congress to vote again on $2,000 checks.
As it happens, McConnell has chosen the latter path, killing the larger checks with poison pills. No change in the amount of stimulus checks is going to occur in this Congress, it appears, though a third check could emerge next year if it seems necessary.
Politico reports that the previously authorized $600 direct payments could be deposited in Americans bank accounts before the end of the year.
There Have Been Recent Payments Made
Is there going to be another stimulus check and when last were the others received? The 1st payment was made to those earning below the income limits. The checks were paid into peoples bank accounts in the first week or so of April 2020 while the second round of direct payments was made in December of 2020 and January 2021.
The second round of aid was a $900 billion package. It was signed off by Trump in December 2020. Is there going to be another stimulus check? It was in about March of 2021 that President Biden signed into law the countrys third Covid-19 stimulus package.
What is the update on stimulus check 4? Is there going to be another stimulus check coming for Americans? Why should you be wondering about a new stimulus check, after all, people have been vaccinated and the economy has opened up? And yet there is talk of one for those living in certain states of America.
So is there a 4th stimulus check? Yes, there is, but things are a little bit different this time around. They are not coming from the federal government like the other three have done. This time around it depends on what state you live in.
Across the USA, a new stimulus check will be coming from a lot of the states so as to provide some kind of financial support to its citizens. The question now is which states are going to be giving a 4th stimulus check?

How Do I Change/update My Bank Information For Direct Deposit
The IRS has a very tight timeline to deliver the second stimulus. If they do not have your current direct deposit information on file for instance, if you changed banks this year your payment may be returned to the IRS by legal requirement. In this case, the IRS cannot reissue your payment by mailed check. Instead, you will need to file a 2020 tax return and claim the Recovery Rebate Credit.
Note: In some cases, people who received a debit card last time might receive a paper check this time, and some people who received a check last time could receive a debit card. Information about using the Economic Impact Payment card can be found here.

What Else Is Included In The Bill
Unemployment relief
Workers who are currently receiving unemployment benefits will receive an additional $300 per week through March 14, 2021.
You can claim unemployment benefits through your state program, the Pandemic Unemployment Assistance , and/or Pandemic Emergency Compensation for up to 50 weeks.
Unemployment relief for self-employed
The $300-per-week of additional unemployment also applies to people who are self-employed and gig workers.
People who normally earn income from both self-employment and wages can receive an extra $100 of unemployment per week to help make up for lost self-employment income.
Help with rent payments
If your family is having difficulty paying rent, you can receive financial assistance for help with your expenses, including past and future rent and utilities. These funds are being distributed by your state and local governments.
Special rules for EITC and CTC
If you claim the Earned Income Tax Credit and/or the Child Tax Credit, you can use the income you reported on your 2019 tax return to determine your EITC and the refundable portion of the CTC when you go to file your taxes in 2021. This is important and can help you get a larger tax refund if you earned less money in 2020 due to the pandemic.
$600 For Each Dependent Child
Aside from the smaller stimulus checks for adults, the other major change under the bill passed by Congress is the amount provided for dependent children: $600 for each child, up from $500 in the CARES Act.
However, the bill states the $600 would be directed toward each dependent child under age 17, which means that adults who are nevertheless claimed as dependents such as college students and older high school students wouldn’t qualify for the checks.
Adult dependents, such as seniors who are claimed as dependents on their adult children’s tax returns, also wouldn’t qualify for the checks. Excluding college students and other adult dependents was a matter of debate with the first round of checks, with some families arguing that older dependents should also qualify for the payments.
A family of two parents with two child dependents could receive up to $2,400 under the provision, lawmakers said.

The IRS started mailing out stimulus checks the week of April 13, sending paper payments to more than 5 million eligible taxpayers. It completed the payments of millions more who had set up direct deposit.
Paper stimulus checks will continue to be sent out every week, at the rate of about 5 million per week. The “schedule” depends on your income, meaning how much you make according to your recent tax return will control when your check is sent.
The IRS is sending out the $1,200 paper checks for those with the lowest incomes first, and predicts it will take up to 20 weeks to fulfill all the payments.

Another $385 Billion Needed
House Speaker Nancy Pelosi has urged Republicans to support the bigger checks. The GOP has pushed back against bigger checks because of their cost, which would amount to an estimated $530 billion, or about $385 billion more than what Congress approved with the $600 checks, according to Heights Securities.
“The President must immediately call on Congressional Republicans to end their obstruction and to join him and Democrats in support of our stand-alone legislation to increase direct payment checks to $2,000, which will be brought to the Floor tomorrow,” Pelosi tweeted on December 28.

The $600 checks called for in the latest relief package would represent half of the $1,200 directed toward most adults in the first round of stimulus checks. Critics had said the aid would be helpful, but not enough to tide over families who have suffered income or job losses since the coronavirus pandemic shuttered the economy last March and caused unemployment to spike.
Payment Status Not Available

Some people were confused to see the message Payment #2 Status Not Available when checking the status of their stimulus check on the IRS website. At the time of this writing, the IRS has stated that those receiving this message will not get a stimulus check by mail or direct deposit. Instead, youll need to claim the Recovery Rebate Credit on your 2020 Tax Return. This will either increase your tax refund or decrease the amount of taxes you owe by however much your stimulus check was supposed to be.

The bill text doesnt specify stimulus payment restrictions for people who are incarcerated so they likely are. When the CARES Act was passed, the IRS moved to block people in prison from receiving stimulus checks, but a judge ordered the Treasury and IRS to distribute payments to them.
Incarcerated people who filed a tax return in 2019 will likely receive a payment by mail or direct deposit. People who didnt may need to work with their facility to complete a 2019 return and submit it to the IRS.
What Happened With The First Round Of Stimulus Checks
Congress put the IRS in charge of issuing payments to eligible Americans. The amounts varied depending on income and the number of children in the household. Those earning up to $75,000 or $150,000 for married couples got the full check partial payments were available to individuals earning up to $99,000 or couples earning up to $198,000. Parents received an additional $500 for each dependent child.
People who had already given the IRS direct-deposit bank information received the first payments fairly quickly instead of a paper check, they got a direct deposit. It was tougher for others, which is why some eligible people waited a long time for paper checks, or in some cases, debit cards.

What The Family Plans To Do With The Cash
The Molitoris family has plans to give a chunk of the money away, as the year has fortunately been relatively stable for them.
“Obviously there’s a lot of people hurting, so we try to help out some charities because they need it,” said Molitoris.
They’ll also likely spend some of the money to boost the local economy. The family has been patronizing a friend’s restaurant and has also used other small businesses run by friends, such as a local garage.
Anything left over will be saved for potential health-care expenses, Molitoris said. One of his children was exposed to Covid-19 earlier in the year, and the family is still in the process of working with insurance to have visits to the pediatrician covered in full.

Today is April 15th, and it appears that economic impact payments passed as part of the CARES Act, also known as 2020 stimulus checks, are now being direct deposited into peoples accounts.
If you havent received your stimulus direct deposit yet, and you did not file your 2018 or 2019 taxes, you may need to go to the government site for non-filers and enter your payment information.
Also, if you did file you can go to the Get My Payment page via the same link, and check your payment status, confirm your payment type and enter your bank account information for direct deposit if the IRS doesnt have your direct deposit information. While the portal was buggy at first, the IRS updates to taxpayer data have improved things.
For most people the coronavirus stimulus checks are sorely needed with millions of new people filing for unemployment in the past few weeks due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
It is estimated that the 4 week total for unemployment claims will top 22 million, roughly one in eight in the workforce.
If youre out of work due to a layoff, furlough or other reason its important to file for unemployment insurance right away, and then to look into making sure youve done everything you need to in order to claim your first stimulus check.
Will there be a second stimulus check for 2020?
