When Could The Stimulus Payments Start
Following approval of the bill on March 11th, millions of Americans will start seeing the third stimulus payments by mid-to-late March 2021 per the estimated IRS payment schedule and official Biden administration guidance. Comments below confirm these are going out now. You can also check the IRS Get May Payment tool for the latest status of your payment. See payment FAQs from the second round of payments, which will also apply for the most part this time around.
Due to the fact that payments are going out in the middle of tax season it may be very hard to get a hold of someone in the IRS to help with payment issues and you will likely have to wait until after April 15th to follow up on issues.
What Were Trumps Stimulus Packages Worth
What has each stimulus check been worth so far compared to Bidens new American Rescue Plan proposal? Below we compare the overall cost of each package so far, what the maximum stimulus check per individual would be and other defining features for eligibility.
Note: AGI stands for Annual Gross Income, and the lower limit is the annual income to receive the full amount as an individual tax filer. The schemes all then have a system where the stimulus check total available gradually decreases, or phases out, incrementally until those who earn the AGI upper limit would receive no check.

Why Might The Third $1400 Stimulus Check Be Approved After March 14
The March 12 date is another key date in the proceedings in the Senate regarding the Biden Administrations third stimulus check and economic rescue package.
Democratic leaders in the U.S. Congress are aiming to have the final stimulus package of $1,400 stimulus checks passed in both chambers by March 12.
This date is key in the process for the law to take effect by the March 14 date when the extra weekly unemployment benefits under the second stimulus law passed last December expire.
The Democrats intention is for the Senate to pass its version before March 12 so that it can pass back to the House of Representatives with the amendments made in the sister body to be ratified.
Once the processes are completed in both chambers, then the bill will go to President Joe Bidens desk for his signature and go into effect.

Stimulus Wheels In Motion Following Budget Reconciliation

On Friday the House approved the final budget framework in a 219-209 vote with unanimous GOP opposition. Hours earlier the Senate voted along party lines to approve the fast-track budget measure whereby they could use reconciliation. The all-night voting marathon saw Vice President Kamala Harris cast her first tiebreaking vote.
The ground is now set for lawmakers to get down to writing the language for the legislation based on Bidens $1.9 trillion proposal that they will vote on. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi said on Friday that she aims to send a sweeping coronavirus relief bill to the Senate within two weeks. Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer has also talked about the need to act fast.
This is a once-in-a-century health and economic crisis.Only big, bold action is called for. Were working with President Biden and Vice President Harris to deliver more help to the American people and fast.

How Is Your Income Calculated For The Stimulus Payments
The IRS will use the AGI on your most recent processed tax return on file. While 55.7 million Americans have already filed their taxes for 2020, millions still havent filedand the IRS is also significantly behind on processing tax returns.
The IRS will use your 2020 tax return if it has been processed by the date they submit your check. If your 2020 return is not available yet, they will use the information from your 2019 tax return.
Note: On March 17, the IRS announced an extension to file your 2020 taxes. Tax returns will now be due by May 17. But if you expect that you may receive more in stimulus money based on your 2020 taxes, and you have not yet received confirmation of your stimulus payment status , you should file as soon as possible.
If you are not required to file your taxes and successfully used the IRSs non-filers tool or completed a special simplified tax return in 2020, no action is needed on your part to receive your payment.
If you do not qualify based on your 2019 income, but you will qualify based upon your 2020 income, consider filing your taxes as soon as possible. Depending on your timing, your stimulus eligibility may be determined before your 2020 tax return is processed. However, the law includes a provision to make supplemental payments in September to ensure people who qualify do not need to wait until the 2021 tax season.
Ssi Or Ssdi Beneficiaries: Are You Eligible For The Third Stimulus Check
If you’re over age 65 and a recipient of Supplemental Security Income or Social Security Disability Insurance, you were eligible for a first and second stimulus check, and will be eligible for a third. This also includes many VA recipients and Retired Railroad Workers.
Social Security recipients are now getting their stimulus checks, the IRS said, but those receiving VA benefits may have a few weeks to go.
If you count as someone else’s dependent, you may be eligible for stimulus money in the potential third round of checks.

Democrats Probably Better Off Seeking Bipartisan Agreement Over Stimulus Says Goldman Sachs Analyst
Given there is opposition to a large stimulus outlay from some within their party, however, Goldman Sachs analyst Alec Phillips says Democrats may well be best off agreeing a smaller, bipartisan package – “our expectation is maybe $1.1tn, something like that” – despite their majority in both houses of Congress.
Democrats wafer-thin advantage in the Senate – the chamber is a 50-50 split, with Vice-President Kamala Harris given a tie-breaking vote – does not give them the filibuster-proof 60 votes they normally need to ensure legislation advances beyond the debate stage in the upper house, but in this case they can get round that by using a process called ‘budget reconciliation‘, which only requires a simple majority of 51 for a bill to get through.
But Phillips feels following such a strategy could end up actually being a more drawn-out process than tabling a reduced bill supported by enough senators from both sides of the floor. “Theres a lot of procedural stuff that goes into that could make it take longer ,” he told the ‘Exchanges at Goldman Sachs’ podcast.
“If they go the bipartisan route and it looks like maybe they can get 60 votes in the Senate for that, then thats maybe a little bit quicker,” he added, noting the seeming difficulty of getting unanimous support for a larger stimulus spend from all 50 Democratic senators.

Nothing. The first two rounds were issued automatically, and the third will be, as well.

If you believe you qualify for the third stimulus check but don’t receive one â or you believe it’s in the wrong amount â there are options. Either the IRS will send you the money you deserve after you file your 2020 taxes or you’ll be able to claim the Recovery Rebate Credit on your 2021 return, according to The Wall Street Journal.
What The Online Get My Payment Tool Can’t Tell You

The IRS tool won’t give you hourly updates — the status information is updated once daily — nor will it tell you how much stimulus money you’re getting or provide details on the first two stimulus checks approved in 2020. You won’t find steps for what to do if you run into payment problems.
The IRS doesn’t want you to call if you have payment trouble. The agency says its representatives don’t have information beyond what’s shown in the tool. Here’s what we recommend doing to address a stimulus issue.
Another way to find out more info on your third payment is to create an IRS account online. If you are sent a plus-up payment after your 2020 tax return is processed, you should see the amount of your plus-up payment with your online account.
Don’t be alarmed if the Get My Payment tool gives you a message that says “Payment Status Not Available.” You may see this message until your payment is processed, according to the IRS. So you may not have to do anything.
But it could also mean you’re not eligible for a payment. So you may want to double-check your eligibility and plug your numbers in our stimulus check calculator to see whether you’re due money.

When Is The Soonest Congress Could Pass A Third Stimulus Check
The stimulus bill is expected to pass the House this Friday. While thats happening, weve mapped out some dates on a possible timeline that serves as a starting point when the Internal Revenue Service and Treasury Department could begin sending out the third stimulus check.

Who Voted For The Stimulus Package
In addition to a third round of checks, the $1.9 trillion American Rescue Plan has many other elements, including $300 a week in federal supplemental unemployment insurance through September $350 billion in aid to state and local governments $170 billion for schools and universities $25 billion in rental assistance and $5 billion for those threatened with homelessness big increases in the child tax credit and the earned income tax credit paid leave for 109 million Americans $40 billion for child care $50 billion for COVID-19 testing and $20 billion for COVID-19 vaccine distribution.
The decision to move the massive spending package through Congress via the budget reconciliation process meant that it could remain virtually intact, but it would require the support of nearly all Democrats in both chambers. Ultimately, only two Democrats voted against the House bill, and not a single Republican supported it. The exclusion of the minimum wage provisions by the Senate parliamentarian eliminated the one issue on which Senate Democrats had been publicly divided . On March 6, the Senate passed the bill on a party-line vote of 50 to 49 Republican Dan Sullivan of Alaska was not present. The final version then went back to the House, where it passed on a 220-211 vote, with no Republicans voting for it and just one Democrat voting against it.
