People who filed taxes early are reporting delays in getting their refund from the IRS

You can estimate how much money the IRS owes your household for the third stimulus check. Just make sure to triple-check that you meet the qualifications, including the income limits.

Because of the overlap with tax season 2020, many people may receive some, but not all, of their allotted amount. If your income changed in 2020, in some cases, the IRS may owe you more money than you received if the income figure used to calculate your payment from your tax returns in 2018 or 2019 is less in 2020. Likewise, if you now have a new dependent, such as a new baby, you may be owed more money.

The IRS is automatically sending plus-up payments to make up the difference. If you dont get one, you may need to claim the missing money another way later in 2021 or even in 2022, since tax season is officially over now.

Check Your Refund Status Online In English Or Spanish

Where’s My Refund? – One of IRS’s most popular online features-gives you information about your federal income tax refund. The tool tracks your refund’s progress through 3 stages:

  • Return Received
  • Refund Approved
  • Refund Sent
  • You get personalized refund information based on the processing of your tax return. The tool provides the refund date as soon as the IRS processes your tax return and approves your refund.

It’s Fast! – You can start checking on the status of your return sooner – within 24 hours after we receive your e-filed return or 4 weeks after a mailed paper return.

It’s Up-to Date! – It’s updated every 24 hours – usually overnight — so you only need to check once a day. There’s no need to call IRS unless Where’s My Refund? tells you to do so.

It’s Easy! – Have your tax return handy so you can provide your social security number, filing status and the exact whole dollar amount of your refund.

    It’s Available! – It’s available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

Find it! – Download the IRS2Go App by visiting the iTunes app store or visit Google Play or

Página Principal – ¿Dónde está mi reembolso? at IRS.gov

If you do not have internet access, call IRS’s Refund Hotline at 1-800-829-1954.

Caution: Don’t count on getting your refund by a certain date to make major purchases or pay other financial obligations. Even though the IRS issued more than 9 out of 10 refunds to taxpayers in less than 21 days, it’s possible your tax return may require more review and take longer.

    What Information Will You Need

To access the tool, you’ll be asked to provide a:

    • Social Security Number or Individual Tax ID Number
    • Date of birth
    • Street address and
    • Five-digit ZIP or postal code.

If you file a joint tax return, either spouse can typically access the portal by providing their own information for the security questions used to verify a taxpayer’s identity. Once verified, the same payment status is shown for both spouses. In some cases, however, married couples who file a joint tax return may get their third stimulus payment as two separate payments half may come as a direct deposit and the other half will be mailed to the address the IRS has on file. If that case, each spouse should check the “Get My Payment” tool separately using their own Social Security number to see the status of their payments.

If you submit information that doesn’t match the IRS’s records three times within a 24-hour period, you’ll be locked out of the portal for 24 hours . You’ll also be locked out if you’ve already accessed the system five times within a 24-hour period. Don’t contact the IRS if you’re shut out. Instead, just wait 24 hours and try again.

    Getting Your Stimulus Check

If the following describes you, you may need to sign up online in order to get your stimulus check:

    • You are a U.S. citizen, a permanent resident, or a U.S. resident alien with a social security number.
    • You have a Social Security number.
    • You are a non-filer, meaning you havent filed a tax return in the last two years because you did not earn enough income.
    • Your annual income is under $75,000. If you are married and filing jointly, the threshold is $150,000.
    • Unlike the first two rounds of stimulus money, adult dependents of U.S. taxpayers are now eligible to receive the $1,400 payments. This time, that includes people 17 and up.

The IRS has closed the form that non-filers used to access their stimulus money in 2020. Instead of using that form, they are now asking all non-filers to fill out a simplified tax return to receive stimulus money. This simplified tax return is due on April 15th. Scroll to the bottom of this article for a list or organizations that can help you file a simplified tax return.

Once you have collected all the information below, you will be ready to fill out the simplified tax return, which will help ensure that you receive your $1,400 check. That form can be found here.

    Heres what youll need.

First, you will need your Social Security number. If you do not have your Social Security number, you will need a government issued ID and a mailing address to request a new card from the Social Security Administration. This task can be accomplished online.

What If My Turbo Card Account Is Closed

Wheres My Stimulus Check 2020 Rh Wwwirsgov ~ news word

If your Refund Advance or Turbo Visa Debit Card account is closed or no longer active, the bank will reject the stimulus payment deposit and return the money to the IRS. The IRS will then mail a check to the address on your 2019 or 2018 tax return, or the address on file with the U.S. USPS, whichever is more current.

According to the IRS, your Get My Payment status may have inaccurately said that your payment was being sent to the same account for the second time. Your payment is actually being mailed and the IRS will be updating Get My Payment accordingly.

What To Do If Your Refund Is Late

One of those resources is the IRS “Check My Refund Status” tool, which may be able to tell you where your money is.

The IRS says it has already processed about 90.6 million tax refunds this year averaging $2,770 each.

Recipients may have used the money to cover expenses, pay down debt, make splurge purchases, or maybe buy something practical, like life insurance.

The number of refunds is down from about 103.6 million at this time last year, but returns submitted to the tax agency are lagging, too because taxpayers have been given more time to file. The usual April 15 deadline has been extended to July 15 this year due to the coronavirus crisis.

If you’ve filed using a paper return and have been waiting, waiting, waiting for your refund, basically all you can do is wait some more until the IRS is able to process the paper forms again.

But the agency says whatever you do, don’t file your taxes a second time, and don’t write to the IRS to ask about the status of your return. What’s implied is that you won’t get anywhere.

In her letter, Congresswoman Luria says many IRS employees are doing the best job they can using antiquated equipment but that’s not good enough.

“Taxpayers are counting on prompt receipt of their refunds to help make ends meet in this time of economic uncertainty,” she writes.

    ‘payment Status Not Available’: Why

The IRS says that millions of taxpayers have successfully used the new Get My Payment app to track their stimulus checks and, if needed, add their direct deposit information to get payment faster. So why are countless people complaining on social media that they entered their information at the app only to receive a frustrating “Payment Status Not Available” message?

In some cases, there could be glitches with the Get My Payment app itself that are preventing people from adding direct deposit information or finding out the expected date for their payments to arrive. Among other quirks, the system may give you a “Payment Status Not Available Message” if you owed $0 in taxes and received no refund on your most recent tax return, the Washington Post reported, because the IRS form gave an error message for people entering “0” in those corresponding spots.

The Get My Payment app went offline during certain late-night hours on Thursday, April 23, through Saturday, April 25, for “planned maintenance.” On April 26, the IRS announced “significant enhancements” to the app, though the agency did not specify which glitches had been fixed. “We urge people who havenât received a payment date yet to visit Get My Payment again for the latest information,” IRS Commissioner Chuck Rettig said in a statement. “IRS teams worked long hours to deliver Get My Payment in record time, and we will continue to make improvements to help Americans.”

The 2021 tax season is well underway, and if youve already completed your tax return, youre probably wondering how long it will take to get your refund.

More people than ever before are filing returns and looking for their payments, the IRS said, because of the expanded child tax credit.

To check on your refund, you can use the IRS Wheres My Refund? tool.

The agency said most tax refunds are issued within 21 days, but there are several reasons a refund could be delayed. Those include returns that need extra review because they claimed the Earned Income Tax Credit or additional Child Tax Credit, returns that may have errors or be incomplete, those that could be affected by identity theft and fraud or otherwise require additional review.

The IRS said it will contact taxpayers by mail if more information is needed to process a return.

The IRS is also encouraging taxpayers to ignore what it calls refund myths.
