Originally, mixed status families were not eligible for the first round of payments. However, now mixed status families can claim both the first and second round of payments on this years tax return. For the second round of payments, if you jointly file with your spouse and only one of you has a valid Social Security Number, the spouse with the valid SSN will receive up to $600 and up to $600 for any qualifying children with SSNs. However, the spouse without a valid SSN is not eligible. The same rules now apply for the first round of payments as well.

New Irs Website Allows Tracking Of Coronavirus Stimulus Payment
Photo via IRS.gov
A new IRS webpage lets users check the status of their coronavirus stimulus payments from the government and allows them to provide their bank account information to get the money via direct deposit.
Why it matters: The government money has started trickling into bank accounts for the 80 million people who received their 2018 or 2019 tax refund by direct deposit, but the new site could speed up the process for some who would otherwise get a check mailed to them over the weeks ahead.
- Taxpayers must provide their Social Security number, birthday and mailing address to be able to check the status of their payment.
- To provide their bank information for direct deposit, people need information from their most recent tax return, like their adjusted gross income and refund amount.
Worth noting: The site has notably experienced some glitches, especially for those who filed their taxes via H& R Block and TurboTax, the Washington Post reports.

Still Cant Get The Irs Site Working To Check The Status Of Your Stimulus Check Try This
Have you been receiving the Payment Status Not Available error message when trying to find out from the IRS where the heck your coronavirus stimulus check is?
The IRS launched a website to check on the status of your stimulus check earlier this month to help update taxpayers. Many people who flocked the IRS website, however, were met with the error message, leaving them with no answer to why they hadnt received their $1,200.
If that sounds familiar, we may have a fix: Hit caps lock.
Some Twitter users have discovered that if they type in their street address in ALL CAPS, the site works.
Mashables own Sasha Lekach had been receiving the Payment Status Not Available message on the IRS website. After trying the ALL CAPS trick for the street address input, the IRS website finally informed her of the status of her stimulus money. She had not made any changes or updates with the IRS in the interim.
Lack of a recent tax filing or direct deposit information was a common issue among taxpayers who had not received their stimulus check but the site doesn’t inform you of that, due to the error message.
The IRS announced that major fixes to the site were rolled out over the past weekend.
Theres another unconfirmed fix that involves how words like Street and Avenue” appear on the IRS form that appears to be working for some people: Try abbreviating.

Payment Issued But Lost Stolen Destroyed Or Not Received
If you received your payment by check and it was lost, stolen or destroyed, you should request a payment trace so the IRS can determine if your payment was cashed. See How do I request a payment trace to track my first or second Economic Impact Payments?
If a trace is initiated and the IRS determines that the check wasnt cashed, the IRS will credit your account for that payment but the IRS cannot reissue your payment. Instead, you will need to claim the 2020 Recovery Rebate Credit on your 2020 tax return if eligible.
Note: If you are filing your 2020 tax return before your trace is complete, do not include the payment amount on line 16 or 19 of the Recovery Rebate Credit Worksheet. If you do, you may receive a notice saying your 2020 Recovery Rebate Credit was changed, but an adjustment will be made after the trace is complete and it is determined your payment has not been cashed. You will not need to take any additional action to receive the credit.
If you do not request a trace on your payment, you may receive an error when claiming the 2020 Recovery Rebate Credit on your 2020 tax return. Since the payment was issued to you, you may not be eligible for any credit.
If you received Notice 1444 in the mail and have not received your payment as mentioned in the notice, see How do I request a payment trace to track my first or second Economic Impact Payments?

The Irs Doesn’t Have Your Direct Deposit Info
The fastest way to get your stimulus check is via bank direct deposit from the IRS. If the IRS doesn’t have your direct deposit info on file, you can still get paid, but it’ll come via paper check â and getting a check in the mail could delay your payment by weeks or even months. Treasury Secretary Steve Mnuchin told CNN that it was his idea that paper check stimulus payments have President Donald Trump’s signature on them, and that reports saying that the signature would add further delay to the arrival of paper checks is incorrect.
“The checks have not gone out yet,” Mnuchin said to CNN’s Jake Tapper on Sunday, April 19, “and the reason they have not gone out yet is that we’re hoping that more people, as I said, will go to IRS.gov. It’s much safer to send out direct deposits.”
Most taxpayers provide the IRS with their bank account details, for the purposes of making a payment or receiving a tax refund. If the agency does not have your direct deposit details, you can provide the IRS with that information at the Get My Payment appâ which also lets you track the status of your check. However, the last day to give your direct deposit info to the IRS was May 13 if you missed the deadline, are eligible, and haven’t received your payment already, it will come as a paper check. You can still use the Get My Payment app to reveal how you will receive your payment , and give a scheduled arrival date, if the payment has been processed.

Should You Call The Irs
Expect delays if you mailed a paper return or responded to an IRS inquiry about your 2020 return. Some returns require special handling such as those that require correction to the Recovery Rebate Credit amount or validation of 2019 income used to claim the EITC or ACTC. Otherwise, you should only call if it has been:
- 21 days or more since you e-filed
- “Where’s My Refund” tells you to contact the IRS
Do not file a second tax return. If youre due a refund from your tax year 2020 return, you should wait to get it before filing Form 1040X to amend your original tax return.
