What Is A Plus
A plus-up supplemental payment is a new or larger payment you may be eligible to get if you recently submitted your 2020 tax return and your income or number of dependents changed.
For example, if you received a partial third stimulus payment based on your 2019 income, but your income declined in 2020, you may receive another payment to make up the difference between the two amounts. Your original third stimulus payment and your plus-up payment together will equal the amount youre eligible to receive based on your 2020 tax return.
On April 1, the IRS announced that new payment batches include supplemental payments for these people. As of late June 9, more than 8 million plus-up payments have been issued.
Don’t Throw Away This Irs Letter If You Want To Claim Missing Stimulus Funds On Your Taxes
If the IRS owes you money from the third stimulus check that went out in 2021, you can still get those funds in 2022.
Anyone who received a third stimulus payment will be sent Letter 6475 by the IRS later this month.
If you’re the type who quickly skims and tosses the mail, you might want to start giving your mailbox a closer look: At the end of January, the IRS will begin issuing letters to people who may be due additional stimulus money. The third Economic Impact Payments were issued between March and December 2021, following passage of the American Rescue Plan. With that third round of stimulus funding, the IRS sent out over 160 million checks to adults of up to $1,400 apiece, plus another $1,400 for dependents.
Anyone who received a third stimulus payment in 2021 will be sent Letter 6475, Your Third Economic Impact Payment.
Most eligible Americans already received their full payments, but if you think you qualified and never got one — even if you don’t typically file a tax return –you’ll need Letter 6475 to file a claim for a recovery rebate credit on your 2021 tax returns. Additionally, if the IRS based your third stimulus payment on your 2019 or 2020 taxes but you made less in 2021, you’ll need the documentation to claim that adjusted credit too.
Here’s how to make sure you get all the stimulus money you’re eligible for. Plus: See if you’re among the families eligible for the expanded child tax credit in 2022.
You Get Less If You Made Too Much
The above numbers assume you made less than $75,000 as an individual or $150,000 as a married couple.
How do the first and second payment reduce based on your income?
If you made more than those amounts, your maximum check gets reduced by $5 for every $100 you were over. You hit a $0 payment at an income of $87,000 for individuals and $174,000 for joint filers.
How does the third payment reduce based on your income?
For the third payment, you still get the full amount if you made up to $75,000 as an individual or $150,000 as a joint filer. However, the payment phases out more quickly. If you made at least $80,000 or $160,000, you get zero.

Can A Debt Collector Take My Stimulus Check
Child support, taxes, and other debts to the federal government are exempt from garnishment, but a private debt collector can try to take your stimulus payment. While previous rounds of aid prohibited debt collectors from garnishing stimulus payments, that protection was not included in this third round.
Congress may consider new, separate legislation to shield this round of payments from debt collectors.
Do I Really Need To Hold On To The Letter

You should always save tax return-related documents, says , chief tax information officer at Jackson Hewitt: W2s, interest statements and IRS letters are a good record of your account “in case anything comes along in the next two or three years.”
“It’s always important, but especially important if you’re due more money — particularly if you had a new baby, adopted a child, fostered a child, it’s your year for split shared custody or any number of additional life changes,” Steber told CNET. “All of these situations would lend themselves to an additional payment.”

Stimulus Check Irs Phone Number: Where To Call
The IRS Economic Impact Payment phone number is 800-919-9835. You can call to speak with a live representative about your stimulus check.
Be prepared to sit on hold, though. If the automated responses can’t answer your questions and you’d like to talk to a live operator, you may join a long waiting list. Some people say they haven’t even been able to get through.
That’s why the IRS recommends using its dedicated stimulus check portal for fast assistance. It also reminds those who are eligible for a stimulus check but aren’t required to file a tax return to use the Non-Filers tool to register for their payment.

What Is Notice 1444 Notice 1444
- Notice 1444 is a special Internal Revenue Service notice to inform you that the IRS issued your coronavirus stimulus payment. If it says Notice 1444 , that means the notice they sent to you is in English and Spanish.
- Notice 1444-B is the notice for the second payment from December 2020 or January 2021. The only difference is that the B means its for the second payment. Without the B is for the first payment.
- Notice 1444-C is the notice for the third payment which started going out in March 2021. The C just means that its the third payment.
Each notice is supposed to arrive within 15 days of your payment. With delays at the IRS, USPS, and other federal government agencies due to COVID-19, delivery times have not been consistent.

The Irs Has An Online Tool That Lets You Track The Status Of Your Third Stimulus Check
The IRS has already delivered over 100 million third stimulus checks. But if you’re still asking yourself “where’s my stimulus check,” the IRS has an online portal that lets you track your payment. It’s called the “Get My Payment” tool, and it’s an updated version of the popular tool Americans used to track the status of their first- and second-round stimulus checks.
Note that you can’t check the status of your first- or second-round stimulus payments with the updated tool. To find the amounts of these payments, create an online IRS account or refer to IRS Notices 1444 and 1444-B, which the IRS mailed after first- and second-round stimulus checks were issued. If you didn’t get an earlier payment, or your received less than the full amount, you might be able to get what you’re owed by claiming the Recovery Rebate credit on your 2020 tax return. Third-round stimulus payments aren’t used to calculate the 2020 Recovery Rebate credit, but they will be used to figure the credit amount on your 2021 tax return.
The updated “Get My Payment” tool more-or-less works the same way as the portal used for first- and second-round stimulus checks. But here’s a refresher course on what the tool does, what information you need to provide, and what information the tool gives you. Check it out now so you know what to expect before entering the portal on the IRS’s website.

Questions And Answers About The First Economic Impact Payment Topic F: Payment Issued But Lost Stolen Destroyed Or Not Received
Q F1. I received my payment by check, but it was lost, stolen or destroyed. How do I get a new one?
A1. If you received your payment by check and it was lost, stolen or destroyed, you may need to request a payment trace so the IRS can determine if your payment was cashed. See How do I request a payment trace to track my first or second Economic Impact Payments?
If a trace is initiated and the IRS determines that the check wasnt cashed, the IRS will credit your account for that payment, but the IRS cannot reissue your payment. Instead, you will need to claim the 2020 Recovery Rebate Credit on your 2020 tax return if eligible.
Note: If you are filing your 2020 tax return before your trace is complete, do not include the payment amount on line 16 or 19 of the 2020 Recovery Rebate Credit Worksheet. If you do, you may receive a notice saying your 2020 Recovery Rebate Credit was changed, but an adjustment will be made after the trace is complete and it is determined your payment has not been cashed. You will not need to take any additional action to receive the credit.
If you do not request a trace on your payment, you may receive an error when claiming the Recovery Rebate Credit on your 2020 tax return. Since the payment was issued to you, you may not be eligible for any credit.

Where’s My Third Stimulus Check Irs Updates ‘get My Payment’ Tool For Covid Payments
You can now find out when your next stimulus payment is expected to hit your bank account or get mailed.
The IRS has updated the Get My Payment tool on its website with information on the third round of stimulus checks, agency spokesperson Karen Connelly confirmed to USA TODAY. Check for your status at www.irs.gov/coronavirus/get-my-payment.
The third round of Economic Impact Payments will be based on a taxpayers latest processed tax return from either 2020 or 2019. That includes anyone who used the IRS non-filers tool last year, or submitted a special simplified tax return.
Those who received the first two stimulus checks but didnt receive a payment via direct deposit will receive a check or a prepaid debit card.
Social Security and other federal beneficiaries will generally receive this third payment the same way as their regular benefits, the IRS said. A payment date for this group is expected to be announced soon.
The payments would amount to $1,400 for a single person or $2,800 for a married couple filing jointly, plus an additional $1,400 for each dependent child. Individuals earning up to $75,000 would get the full payments, as would married couples with incomes up to $150,000. Payments would decline for incomes above those thresholds, phasing out above $80,000 for individuals and $160,000 for married couples.

Qualifying For Recovery Rebate Credit
Should you qualify for the Recovery Rebate Credit, you are able to claim the child on your 2021 tax return, which will be completed in 2022.
Those who qualify for an additional payment via the American Rescue Plan will be able to have the credit arrive as part of their 2021 refund.
In order to qualify, dependents must be under 19 at the end of the year unless they are a student, or any age but are permanently disabled. In addition, the dependent must be a child, brother, sister, foster child, stepbrother, stepsister, half-brother or half-sister, or a descendent of any of them.
There are some income requirements that must be met to receive the Recovery Rebate Credit payment, though, as taxpayers can receive the full amount if they have an adjusted gross income under $75,000, or an income of $150,000 and are married and filing jointly.

How Should A Representative Payee Use A Beneficiarys Economic Impact Payment
Date: March 26, 2021
The EIP belongs to the Social Security or SSI beneficiary. It is not a Social Security or SSI benefit. A representative payee should discuss the EIP with the beneficiary. If the beneficiary wants to use the EIP independently, the representative payee should provide the EIP to the beneficiary. If the beneficiary asks the representative payee for assistance in using the EIP in a specific manner or saving it, the representative payee can provide that assistance outside the role of a representative payee.
