When Will My Stimulus Payment Be Sent
California’s stimulus payments are going out twice a month, or about every two weeks, though some may go out earlier or later. Those who qualify and have already set up direct deposit when filing their 2020 tax return can expect an electronic payment.
Most direct deposit stimulus payments will be issued before Oct. 31. If you filed a state tax return after Sept. 1, you might have to wait at least 45 days for the return to be processed and have a check issued.
As for paper checks, those will start going out Oct. 6, and will continue through January of next year. Paper checks will be sent in batches based on the last three digits of the ZIP code on your 2020 tax return. If your tax return is processed during or after the date of your scheduled ZIP code payment, the Franchise Tax Board says, you should allow up to 60 days after your return has been processed.

H& r Block Customers Experiencing Payment Delays Or Missing Payments
People that have their tax refund checks sent directly to their bank account automatically get their stimulus check from the government to that account number. However, H& R Block customers that used the Refund Transfer option in 2019 may have had their stimulus sent to that temporary account. The company says they are investigating why this happened.
H& R Block posted online saying in part, “If you took a Refund Transfer, it may be reflecting that account number. Check your 2019 return to confirm.” “But dont worry we have sent these payments on to the method you chose for Refund Transfer: direct deposit, check, or Emerald Card. The money should be there by the end of the day.”
However, many are saying they still didn’t receive their payment at the end of the day when this started on Monday, or they only received a part of their payment.
The company added that if the IRS Get My Payment website displays an account number an H& R Block customer doesnt recognize, H& R Block is ready to help with additional information at 800-HRBLOCK and for Emerald Card.

Some Will Need To Claim Rebate On Tax Return

While $600 coronavirus stimulus payments have started hitting bank accounts across the nation, many wont be receiving checks or direct deposits this time around.
The IRS has created a Get My Payment tool for qualifying Americans to see when their money is coming. For many, that tool shows that the payment has been deposited or on its way but for others, it reads, Payment #2 Status – Not Available.
The resulting message claims, We are unable to provide the status of your payment right now because:
- We dont have enough information yet , or
- Youre not eligible for a payment.
The IRS issued a statement on Tuesday letting residents know that if they see that message, they should not to expect a stimulus payment.
If shows Payment Status #2 Not Available, then you will not receive a second Economic Impact Payment and instead you need to claim the Recovery Rebate Credit on your 2020 Tax Return, the statement read.
Users who get this message are encouraged to file their taxes early and electronically in order to get their rebate as quickly as possible.
Reports surfaced this week that a number of taxpayers who use tax preparation services, such as H& R Block and TurboTax, had their $600 checks sent to the wrong accounts, causing them to have to wait longer for the much-needed cash.
On Friday, TurboTax released a statement saying the issue had been rectified.

When You’ll Receive Your Payment
The final date to qualify has already passed for filers other than those with pending ITINs. If you have already filed, you don’t have to do anything.
If you have not received a payment by now, you will most likely receive a paper check. In addition, if you did not receive a refund with your tax return or owed money at the time of filing, you will receive a paper check.
Payments will go out based on the last 3 digits of the ZIP code on your 2020 tax return. Some payments may need extra time to process for accuracy and completeness. If your tax return is processed during or after the date of your scheduled ZIP code payment, allow up to 60 days after your return has processed. Please allow up to three weeks to receive the paper checks once they are mailed out.

Remember, the IRS is basing your income off your 2019 tax filings. New parents will not receive a check for their newest member of the family because the stimulus checks are based on 2019 tax filings. However, these parents will be able to receive this money eventually, when they file their 2020 tax return.
The second round of stimulus checks will be for $600 this time around for a qualifying individual. That is half of what they received in the first round of stimulus checks. A couple filing jointly would be eligible for $1,200, assuming their income qualifies.

A couple or individual can also collect an additional $600 for each dependent under the age of 17.
Just as with the first round of stimulus checks, there are income requirements. An individual must have made less than $75,000 on their 2019 tax filings, in order to receive the full $600 check. For additional income, the check starts to phase out, hitting zero at $87,000.
Meanwhile couples will receive the full $1,200 check if they made less than $150,000 on their 2019 tax filings. This check will phase out above that income level, hitting zero at $174,000.
Payment Issued But Lost Stolen Destroyed Or Not Received
If you received your payment by check and it was lost, stolen or destroyed, you should request a payment trace so the IRS can determine if your payment was cashed. See How do I request a payment trace to track my first or second Economic Impact Payments?
If a trace is initiated and the IRS determines that the check wasnt cashed, the IRS will credit your account for that payment but the IRS cannot reissue your payment. Instead, you will need to claim the 2020 Recovery Rebate Credit on your 2020 tax return if eligible.
Note: If you are filing your 2020 tax return before your trace is complete, do not include the payment amount on line 16 or 19 of the Recovery Rebate Credit Worksheet. If you do, you may receive a notice saying your 2020 Recovery Rebate Credit was changed, but an adjustment will be made after the trace is complete and it is determined your payment has not been cashed. You will not need to take any additional action to receive the credit.
If you do not request a trace on your payment, you may receive an error when claiming the 2020 Recovery Rebate Credit on your 2020 tax return. Since the payment was issued to you, you may not be eligible for any credit.

When Will I Get My Check
Payment distribution began on December 29. The Treasury Department and the IRS plan to distribute most payments to eligible taxpayers by Jan. 15. On Jan. 5, the Wall Street Journal reported that more than $112 billion of second stimulus payments had already been sent.

Will My Stimulus Check Be Taxed?
No. Similar to the CARES Act stimulus checks, this payment is an advance refundable tax credit, and is not taxable income.
Will You Get A Direct Deposit Or Mailed Check
If you haven’t gotten your direct deposit yet, keep an eye out for incoming mail. It could be delivered as a paper check or a debit card.
The Treasury Department’s Bureau of Fiscal Service will be sending a limited number of payments by debit card to “speed delivery of the payments to reach as many people as soon as possible.”
The IRS said the second form of stimulus check payment might be different than the first. For example, it’s possible for those who received a check in the mail to get a debit card this time, and vice versa.
The debit card will be sent in a white envelope that displays the U.S. Department of the Treasury seal. It will be a Visa card with the issuing bank listed as MetaBank.

What Is The Timeline For A Fourth Stimulus Check
It should be made clear that, as this moment in time, there are no plans for a fourth stimulus check. So, there isn’t a plan in place for more checks to be paid out.
But, it should be kept in mind that the framework is already in place and that the high-profile nature of these stimulus checks would make passing the legislation a priority if Biden and his colleagues decide to go down this route again. Therefore, any fourth stimulus check announcement would soon be followed by the actual sending out of the money.
Why Was Tax Day Extended To May 17
The IRS pushed back the tax filing deadline by a month to Monday, May 17 instead of Thursday, April 15. The agency is dealing with staffing issues and outdated IT systems at a time when its also implementing sweeping tax code changes from the COVID-19 relief packages.
Last year, the 2019 tax deadline was extended three months until July 15, 2020, without penalties and interest, because of the massive economic shutdowns that went into place to stem the spread of the coronavirus.

To qualify, you must have:
- Filed your 2020 taxes by October 15, 2021
- Had a California Adjusted Gross Income of $1 to $75,000 for the 2020 tax year. For this information refer to:
- Line 17 on Form 540
- Line 16 on Form 540 2EZ
- Had wages of $0 to $75,000 for the 2020 tax year
- Been a California resident for more than half of the 2020 tax year
- Been a California resident on the date payment is issued
- Not been claimed as a dependent by another taxpayer

What If You Have Trouble With The Tool
To use the Get My Payment tool, you must first verify your identity by answering security questions. If the information you enter does not match IRS records, you will receive an error message. To avoid this:
- Double-check the information requested
- Make sure what you enter is accurate
- Try entering your street address in a different way and
- Use the US Postal Services ZIP Lookup tool to look up the standard version of your address, and enter it into exactly as it appears on file with the Postal Service.
If your answers do not match the IRS records three times, youll be locked out of Get My Payment for security reasons. If that happens, you must wait 24 hours and try again. If you cant verify your identity, you wont be able to use Get My Payment. Unfortunately, theres no fix for that: the IRS says not to not contact them.
However, if you verified your identity and received Payment Status Not Available, this means that the IRS cannot determine your eligibility for a payment right now. There are several reasons this could happen, including:
- You didnt file either a 2018 or 2019 tax return or
- Your recently filed return has not been fully processed.
Again, the IRS says theres no fix for that and you should not contact them.

Golden State Stimulus Checks Are Now Going Out
The California Franchise Tax Board is currently in the process of distributing stimulus checks to an estimated two-thirds of Californians as part of the California Comeback Plan. The $100 billion relief bill was passed by Gov. Gavin Newsom earlier this year and it provides direct payments for the majority of the state’s residents.
As part of the expanded stimulus check programme, more groups will be eligible for the payments and they should all be distributed in the coming weeks.
The American Rescue Plan completely overhauled the Child Tax Credit payment system, splitting the credit into a series of monthly payments with a final lump sum when it comes to tax filing time. The programme currently has funding for just one year but there are already many attempts to see it extended further.

What Should I Do If I Havent Filed My Return Yet But Want To Claim The Waiver
The IRS issued instructions for those who havent filed a return yet, but want to claim the waiver of $10,200 on unemployment insurance.
For those who havent filed yet, the IRS will provide a worksheet for paper filers and work with software industry to update current tax software so that taxpayers can determine how to report their unemployment income on their 2020 tax return, the IRS said.
The IRS is currently accepting federal returns with the new waiver for those who haven’t filed yet. Depending on your tax company, that function may or may not be available due to software upgrades needed, according to Steber. Jackson Hewitt has made all the changes under the new rule, he added.
TurboTax and H& R Block updated their online software to account for the new tax break on jobless benefits received in 2020.

WASHINGTON Today, the Internal Revenue Service and the Treasury Department will begin delivering a second round of Economic Impact Payments as part of the Coronavirus Response and Relief Supplemental Appropriations Act of 2021 to millions of Americans who received the first round of payments earlier this year.
The initial direct deposit payments may begin arriving as early as tonight for some and will continue into next week. Paper checks will begin to be mailed tomorrow, Wednesday, December 30.
The IRS emphasizes that there is no action required by eligible individuals to receive this second payment. Some Americans may see the direct deposit payments as pending or as provisional payments in their accounts before the official payment date of January 4, 2021. The IRS reminds taxpayers that the payments are automatic, and they should not contact their financial institutions or the IRS with payment timing questions.
As with the first round of payments under the CARES Act, most recipients will receive these payments by direct deposit. For Social Security and other beneficiaries who received the first round of payments via Direct Express, they will receive this second payment the same way.
