Did Not File In 2018 Or 2019
Another reason why you havent received your stimulus check is because you did not file your taxes in 2018 or 2019. If you did file in 2018 and are not planning on filing in 2019, then the IRS needs updated information.
However, if you did not file taxes in 2018 or 2019, the IRS developed a web page where you can enter in information to make sure you receive your stimulus check.
Please note: If you receive disability, social security, railroad retiree or survivor benefits, the IRS will be sending you a check. You do not need to enter in your information on the web page or take action, as checks will be issued soon.
Check The Status Of Your Third Economic Impact Payment
All Third Economic Impact Payments must be issued by Dec. 31, 2021 in accordance with the American Rescue Plan Act of 2021, signed into law on March 11, 2021.
The IRS mailed Notice 1444-C to people who received a third Economic Impact Payment. You should keep this letter with your tax year 2021 records.

The Latest On $1400 Stimulus Checks
This tax season, the government is also issuing a third tranche of third stimulus checks for up to $1,400 per individual, plus $1,400 per eligible dependent.
Last week, the IRS and other agencies said about 127 million checks have been sent to date, for a total of approximately $325 billion.
Those $1,400 payments are generally based on 2019 or 2020 tax returns, whichever was most recently filed and processed by the IRS. Those who used the IRS non-filer tool last year should also automatically get their payments.
There are also advantages to filing a 2020 return in order to receive the $1,400 payment, according to the IRS.
If your income dropped from 2019 to 2020, you could be eligible for a larger payment. The IRS has said it may potentially send follow-on payments to those people after their 2020 tax returns are processed.
Filing a 2020 tax return also lets you update your direct deposit information.
This tax season, non-filers are also required to file a tax return in order to get their payment, provided they have not already submitted their information to the government.
Of note, people who receive federal benefits such as Social Security, Supplemental Security Income, Railroad Retirement Board and Veterans Affairs will generally receive their stimulus checks automatically, though there have been delays in processing some of those payments.

Advance Child Tax Credit
The expanded and newly-advanceable Child Tax Credit was authorized by the American Rescue Plan Act, enacted in March. Normally, the IRS will calculate the payment based on a person’s 2020 tax return, including those who use the Non-filer Sign-up tool. If that return is not available because it has not yet been filed or is still being processed, the IRS will instead determine the initial payment amounts using the 2019 return or the information entered using the Non-filers tool that was available in 2020. If an eligible taxpayer did not file for 2019 or 2020, they may use a new online Non-filer Sign-up tool to register for the monthly Advance Child Tax Credit payments.
To make sure families have easy access to their money, the IRS will issue these payments by direct deposit, as long as correct banking information has previously been provided to the IRS. Otherwise, people should watch their mail starting on or after July 15 for their mailed payment. The dates for the Advance Child Tax Credit payments are July 15, August 13, September 15, October 15, November 15 and December 15.

How Can I Get My Money Faster

If you didnt provide your direct deposit information with your taxes but dont want to wait several weeks or months for your stimulus payment, dont panic. A free online tool from the IRS called Get My Payment allows people to provide their direct deposit information so they dont have to wait for their check to arrive in the mail.
But act quickly. The IRS said on May 8 that people have until noon on May 13 to input their direct deposit information into Get My Payment. After the May 13 cutoff the IRS will begin preparing paper checks that will begin arriving through late May and into June, according to an IRS statement.
Get My Payment also lets you track the status of your payment and see what type of payment youll receive. Its designed to work on a desktop, phone or tablet, and you dont need to download it from an app store. To track your payment, youll need to provide your name, mailing address used on your tax return and Social Security number. The IRS says the apps data is updated once a day.
Be careful when entering your information you cant change your bank account info after a payment has been scheduled to be delivered, the Treasury Department said in a press release. Its also wise to be on the lookout for any suspicious emails, calls or texts seeking your personal info, as its likely that scammers will try to take advantage of the stimulus check system to steal peoples personal information.

What If I Need To Change My Bank Account Information Since I Filed
The Get My Payment tool doesnt allow people to change their bank account information already on file with the IRS, in order to help protect against potential fraud, the IRS website says. The Get My Payment tool also does not allow people to update their direct deposit information once their Economic Impact Payment has been scheduled for delivery.
However, people who did not use direct deposit on their last tax return to receive a refund, or when their direct deposit information was inaccurate and resulted in a refund check, will be able to provide that information and speed their payment with a deposit into their bank account, the IRS website says.
If the bank account you used on your tax return has since been closed, the IRS says the bank will reject the deposit and you will be issued your payment to the address we have on file for you.
If you split your tax refund between multiple accounts, the IRS will send your stimulus payment to the first account you listed on Form 888. If your direct deposit is rejected, your payment will be mailed to the address we have on file for you, the IRS says.
If youve had to make an electronic payment to the IRS in the past which includes Direct Debit Installment Agreements the IRS will not use that account information to send your stimulus payment. Instead, the IRS says you must fill out your direct deposit information through the Get My Payment app or wait for your payment to come in the mail.
What Impact Will Tax Season Have On My Stimulus Payment
Taxes for 2020 are due on May 17, 2021 . The IRS began accepting tax returns on Feb. 12, 2021. This means your third-round stimulus payment could arrive in the middle of tax season. This alone creates questions such as Do I need to file my 2020 taxes right away? Will the IRS accept my 2019 income? and, of course, Does this mean stimulus payments will be delayed?
Due to the winter storms that hit Texas, Oklahoma, and Louisiana in February 2021, the IRS has delayed the 2020 federal individual and business tax filing deadline for those states until June 15, 2021.
In answer to the first two questions, you dont need to file your 2020 taxes right away, but depending on your income in 2019 and 2020, you may want to. The IRS will use the latest year they have on file when your stimulus is processed. This means if all they have is your 2019 return, then thats what they will use if you earned less in 2020, then it could be better for you if that number is used.
While its possible that your stimulus check or even tax refund check could be delayed this year, according to the IRS, the additional programming and testing that resulted in the late Feb. 12, 2021, start date for tax season makes that unlikely.

What To Do If One Of The Three Stimulus Checks Hasn’t Arrived
About 15 days after the IRS sends out your check, you should receive a letter from the agency confirming the payment. When the first round of stimulus checks went out last year, that letter included two hotline phone numbers because thousands of agents were available to help. But with the second and third rounds of checks, the IRS changed its tune, and these phone numbers may be disconnected.
Here are common scenarios that might indicate you need to look into your stimulus payment:
- If you’re one of the millions of people who qualified for the first stimulus check but never got it.
- If your second stimulus check has still not arrived.
- If you got a letter from the IRS saying your third check was sent, but never received the payment. Or, if the IRS Get My Payment portal said your payment was sent, but you didn’t get it.
- If you got some of your stimulus money from any payment, but not all of it.
You should also confirm you’re qualified to get the stimulus payment, since not everyone who received a previous check is qualified this time. If you think it’s time to take action, read for more options.

Who Qualifies For A Stimulus Check
Not everyone. Here’s the income criteria:
-
Single filers whose adjusted gross income does not exceed $75,000 are eligible for the full $1,400 stimulus payment. The amount begins to shrink after that and phases out completely at $80,000.
-
Heads of household whose AGI does not exceed $112,500 are eligible for the full $1,400 stimulus payment. The amount begins to shrink after that and phases out completely at $120,000.
No matter your IRS filing status, the stimulus payment should have included up to $1,400 for every qualifying tax dependent you might have.

You Haven’t Filed Taxes For 2018 Or 2019
In most cases, the IRS determines whether someone is eligible for a stimulus check, and how much they’ll get, based on their most recent tax return â for 2019, or 2018 if the individual hasn’t filed yet this year. The deadline to file federal taxes has been pushed back from April 15 to July 15 this year, but nonetheless it may be in your best interest to file your taxes sooner than later.
People who have already filed their taxes do not have to do anything to get their checks. However, some people are not required to file taxes, and they could miss out on stimulus payments if they do not take action. Low-income earners â with gross income of $12,200 or less â do not need to file federal tax returns. For these people to receive a stimulus payment, they must register at the IRS’s “Non-Filers: Enter Payment Info Here” page.

You should always save tax return-related documents, says , chief tax information officer at Jackson Hewitt: W2s, interest statements and IRS letters are a good record of your account “in case anything comes along in the next two or three years,” he says.
“It’s always important, but especially important if you’re due more money — particularly if you had a new baby, adopted a child, fostered a child, it’s your year for split shared custody or any number of additional life changes,” Steber told CNET. “All of these situations would lend themselves to an additional payment.”

I Dont Have A Bank Account How Can I Receive My Stimulus Payment

If youre one of the 14.1 million Americans who dont have a bank account, youll still be able to receive a stimulus payment. The IRS will mail your check to the address it has on file for you. However, it may take a while to arrive.
If you log in to the IRSs online Get My Payment tool with your Social Security number, date of birth and mailing address, youll be able to track your payment. However, if you dont usually file a tax return, the IRS says your data might not be in the system yet.
Individuals without bank accounts could use the paper checks to open up a checking or a savings account. However, as Hasen explains, many people who dont have bank accounts face multiple barriers to opening one some lack an ID, or its hard to access a physical bank location, especially as many are limiting operations during the coronavirus outbreak. In those cases, people can cash their checks at cash checking businesses though they may be subject to a fee or use offerings like Squares Cash App, which allows for direct deposits without a traditional bank account.
