First 2020 Stimulus Check Payment Schedule
The IRS has issued the majority of stimulus check that were due to be paid via direct deposit. They are now mailing checks to those who didnt have or provide banking details, or where issues were identified when paying the stimulus check electronically. The following is the planned weekly stimulus check mailing schedule based on annual adjusted gross income, as first reported by The Washington Post. All dates represent the week ending and the IRS could change this schedule at any time.
- Less than $10,000: April 24
- $10,001 $20,000: May 1
- $190,001 $198,000: September 4
- Remaining checks: September 11
The IRS has confirmed that the distribution of economic impact payments has begun. Payments for most working Americans are have been calculated and deposited or mailed via check based on 2018 or 2019 federal tax filing payment details. Check payments may take a week or two more. The IRS has also launching several tools to help people track their stimulus check payment and/or update direct deposit details. See FAQs and further updates below.
Most people wont need to take any action and the IRS will calculate and automatically send the economic stimulus payment to those eligible. A dependent stimulus is also available.
SSDI beneficiaries will automatically get the $1,200 payment from April 17th based on their payment information with the Social Security administration, unlike other workers who have to have a recent tax filing to get the stimulus payment.

The Irs Has My Banking Information On File Why Didn’t I Get My Stimulus Check Through Direct Deposit
While we can’t say for certain what went wrong in your case, there are some common reasons the transaction didn’t go through as you expected, including:
- An electronic transfer of funds was made to a closed account.
- Direct deposit was attempted to a temporary account used by a third-party tax preparer .
- You changed your direct deposit banking preferences or registered a new account on your 2020 tax return, but the IRS hasn’t processed it and used your 2019 information instead.
- The IRS didn’t get to your payment for whatever reason, and you’ll receive a paper check or EIP debit card instead.
- Your payment was garnished by private debt collectors.

Why Would A Married Couple Get Two Payments
A wide range of questions remain regarding the complex program. And not everyone is seeing their payments show up in the way they might expect.
Some married couples, for example, are questioning why they received two forms of payment or just what appears to be half of their expected payment.
IRS officials noted married taxpayers who file jointly but whose tax return includes an injured spouse claim may receive their third Economic Impact Payment as two separate payments.
In most cases, the second payment will be delivered as directed by the tax return, according to IRS officials.
In a few instances, one payment may come as a direct deposit and the other mailed.
An injured spouse claim is filed with the IRS to make sure that the entire tax refund wont be used to offset your spouses past debt, including past federal income taxes by your spouse but not by you.
By filing Form 8379, the IRS notes, the injured spouse may be able to get back his or her share of the joint refund.
Whats confusing is that the second Economic Impact Payment may come the same week or within weeks of the first payment.
Both taxpayers on the tax return should check Get My Payment separately using their own Social Security number to see the status of both payments, according to the IRS. See www.IRS.gov for the Get My Payment Tool.
How To Set Up Direct Deposit When You File Your Tax Return

When filing taxes, select Direct Deposit as your refund method through your tax software, then type in your bank account and routing numbers you can still add your bank account information even if youre not getting a refund. You can find your account and routing number on your banks website when you sign in, call your bank branch or locate the numbers on a check. You can also give your tax preparer this information if you dont file your own taxes.
If youre a nonfiler, that is someone who is not usually required to file taxes, but youre filing for the Recovery Rebate Credit to get a missing stimulus check, youll need to file Form 1040 or Form 1040-SR .
The IRS says your refund should only be deposited directly into a US bank or US bank-affiliated account, and that it needs to be in your name, your spouses name or both if its a joint account.

Irs Bank Account Information Update Tool
When the first and second stimulus checks were rolling out, the IRS had the non-filers tool where taxpayers could update their bank account information. Although this was a tool that was mostly designed for nonfilers to give their bank account information to the Internal Revenue Service, it was also used by those that needed to update it with the agency.
Since were not expecting another stimulus check as the COVID-19 pandemic is slowly ending, the tool isnt there anymore. As a nonfiler that wants to update bank account information with the IRS, what you need to do is file a federal income tax return. Review Mobile Check Deposit Limits
If you know that youre able to deposit a check through mobile banking, the next step is to determine whether there are any limits on deposits.
For example, some financial institutions impose limits on the number of checks you can deposit per day or per week. There may also be daily, weekly or monthly limits on the total dollar amount you can add to your bank account using mobile check deposit.
So, make sure you can deposit your check without going over those limits. For example, say youre married with two kids and you received a federal stimulus check for $3,400. If your banks mobile check deposit limit is $5,000 per day, you should be able to deposit the entire check online.
You can usually find out about limits if you read your bank accounts terms and conditions. You can also check your online banking website and look for a section on frequently asked questions. Sometimes this is a good place to start.
What if your check is outside mobile check deposit limits? In this case, youll need to find a work-around for depositing it into your bank account. With online bank accounts, for instance, you may have to deposit the money to a checking account at a brick-and-mortar bank, and then move it into your other account via an ACH transfer.
