H& r Block Customers Experiencing $600 Stimulus Payment Delays
Americans across the country are finally receiving their second stimulus checks, though after eight months of waiting, some H& R block costumers will have to wait a little longer to see that $600 payment show up in their account. As the Internal Revenue Service continues to distribute the second round of direct payments, a mixup has led to some customers experiencing a major delay in receiving the much-needed payment.
As the IRS and the U.S. Treasury Department began issuing the second round of stimulus checks last week, dozens of H& R Block customers took to social media to air their frustrations when their payments did not appear in their accounts. Customers checking the IRS’ Get My Payment online portal, where the status of stimulus checks can be tracked, reported their $600 payment ended up in an unfamiliar account number. According to a statement from H& R Block, this is due to a mixup the company is currently investigating. The company explained that while people who receive their tax refund checks via direct deposit automatically get their stimulus check from the government to that account number, H& R Block costumers who used the Refund Transfer option in 2019 may find that their stimulus payment has been sent to that temporary account.

How To Track The Third Stimulus Check And Find Your Payments Status

We have confirmed with the IRS that they have the accurate banking information from the tax filing for all TurboTax filers, McMahon said in an email. If the taxpayer closed their personal bank account where they received a recent tax refund, the IRS may still try to deposit their stimulus payment there if it is the latest banking information that the IRS has on file for them.
Some H& R Block users, meanwhile, griped that their checks were incorrectly deposited onto Emerald Cards, prepaid debit cards that customers can use to receive their tax refunds, CNBC reported.
But the company says those problems were isolated incidents in a distribution process thats been much smoother than the last one. H& R Block said on Tuesday that all stimulus payments headed to Emerald Cards have been processed.
While there were individuals who had questions or needed a replacement Emerald Card, the systemic issue seen during the second stimulus disbursement was solved and was not an issue this time, an H& R Block spokesperson said.
Those affected by the glitches may have to wait a bit longer to receive the money.
The IRS said any payments sent to closed bank accounts will be returned to the feds and reissued in less than two weeks. Some reissued payments are already on the way, according to the agency.

TurboTax and H& R Block customers are voicing their anger after learning that two tax-preparation companies sent their stimulus payments to the wrong accounts.
The news comes after TurboTax announced on Twitter that it had worked with the Internal Revenue Service to ensure the agency had the correct bank account information to distribute the checks. The company also told customers that the payment would be based on information from their latest tax return and that the money would go directly to the bank account or address that the IRS had on file.
In a press release, H& R Block similarly said it understood how important coronavirus relief benefits, including third stimulus payments, are to millions of American households and small business owners, providing information on when customers should expect their money.
Still, many customers said they havent seen the payments in their accounts. Longtime TurboTax customer Keri Behling told CNBC that she checked the status of her payment on the IRSs Get My Payment tool but saw that the funds had been deposited in the wrong bank account. Behling said she had the same issue with her second stimulus payment.
I sat on hold with the IRS for over an hour, Behling said, adding that TurboTax had told her that there was nothing it could do to help her. The person who finally answered placed me on hold and it brought me back to a recording that said my call could not be completed.
Second Stimulus Checks & Us Expats: What You Should Know
Q. What was the second stimulus check?
A. The second stimulus check was part of a December 2020 government relief package to provide financial relief to Americans during the pandemic. The relief package included $600 direct payments to each person with a Social Security Number who cannot be claimed as a dependent and earned under a certain amount of income. It also included up to $600 payments for each qualifying child under age 17.
Q. Did I get a second stimulus check if Im an American living overseas?
A. Yes, expats qualified for the second stimulus check. You qualified if you fall within the income threshold, have a social security number, and file taxes even if you live overseas.
Q. Did I need to sign up for it or sign off on it?
A. Most people didnt need to do anything to receive the second stimulus because the IRS based the payments off of 2019 tax returns. If you didnt file a 2019 return, you may be able to claim it on your 2020 tax return as a Recovery Rebate Credit.
Q. If I live abroad, when should I have gotten my second stimulus check if I qualified?
A. All of the second stimulus payments have gone out. Most people got a direct deposit.

What Happens If You Get A Not Available Message
Other TurboTax users havent been as lucky as Trent.
DeeAnna Kerns, who lives in Winston-Salem, North Carolina, has used TurboTax to file her taxes for the past five years and had no issues receiving her first stimulus check. But she was left scratching her head after she saw a not available message when checking her account on the IRS website.
I keep getting an error message, which leads me to believe that my stimulus check was redirected to TurboTaxs account, said Kerns, 36, who works at a nonprofit that assists people with intellectual and developmental disabilities.
Anyone who sees this message wont receive a second Economic Impact Payment by mail or direct deposit and instead needs to claim the Recovery Rebate Credit on your 2020 Tax Return, according to the IRS.
But others with that status like Trent still received the money this week.
TurboTax didnt immediately respond to questions as to why some customers had the not available status but still received the money.

Some Taxpayers Find Stimulus Checks Sent To Wrong Account
– A number of taxpayers who use tax preparation services, such as H& R Block and TurboTax, say their second relief payments were sent to the incorrect bank account, forcing them to wait longer for their money.
The IRS and the Treasury Department began issuing the Economic Impact Payments last week. The payment is $600 for each eligible adult and dependent for people earning up to $75,000, or $150,000 for married couples filing jointly. Those earning more than that are eligible for a reduced payment.
The IRS said that direct deposit payments would take several days to post to individual accounts but funds were largely available on Monday. Some payments are also being sent via paper check or debit cards during the month of January.
Taxpayers can use the Get My Payment tool on the IRS website to find out about the status of their payment.
However, many people said that they checked the IRS site and found their payments were sent to an account they did not recognize.
Samantha Smith of Dallas said she received her $1,200 relief payment in the spring via direct deposit without any issues. But her payment for this round of economic relief went to an account she did not recognize.
Smith, who was laid off in October, had planned to use the money to pay her rent and is frustrated as her hands tied until the money comes in.
I would love that money, she said. Its imperative.

Many taxpayers who used H& R Block, TurboTax or another tax preparation software company have reported issues with receiving their payments. Like with many of the second stimulus checks, the IRS has seemingly sent the funds to the wrong bank accounts.
The IRS has said that if this is the case, the funds will be sent back to the agency and then reissued as either a paper check or debit card and sent to the address the agency has on file for each affected taxpayer. The Get My Payment tool will show the updated information when it’s available.

Why Stimulus Checks Were Delayed Last Time

Millions of people file their taxes through online tax software providers every year. It can be simple, convenient, and more affordable than visiting a CPA .
In an effort to extend that convenience, H& R Block, TurboTax, and a few others allow customers to opt into their refund transfer products. These let the customer pay for the company’s services through their tax refund for an additional fee, instead of via credit or debit card. To complete this process, the company sets up a holding account where the IRS can deposit the refund and the company can take its fee before sending the rest of the money to the taxpayer’s bank account.
During the rollout of the second stimulus check in January, the IRS erroneously sent payments to these holding accounts for many H& R Block and TurboTax customers. In most cases, the money was later redirected to taxpayers others had to claim the credit on their tax returns. H& R Block was able to get the funds to customers within days despite the IRS’s mixup.
Jones said H& R Block has worked with the IRS to ensure the payments go to the customer’s “ultimate” bank account the account where their refund ends up as quickly as possible this time. The IRS is also labeling the payments as stimulus rather than refund, Jones added, which helps direct the money to the right location.

How Do I Track My Payment
Taxpayers can track the status of their payments using the IRS’s Get My Payment tool, which is updated once a day. You will likely receive one of three types of messages:
- “Payment Status” will show you the date your payment was processed and will tell you if you will receive funds via direct deposit or in the mail. If the tool says that you are eligible for a payment, but there is no date shown, that means that the IRS hasn’t processed your payment yet. It does not mean that you won’t receive one you will just get it in a future wave of payments.
- “Payment Status Not Available” means the IRS either hasn’t yet determined your eligibility or that you’re not eligible at all.
- “Need More Information” means one of the two things: Either the IRS does not have your account information and your payment hasn’t been processed yet, or the postal service was unable to deliver your payment and it was returned to the IRS.
