House Speaker Nancy Pelosi has urged Republicans to support the bigger checks. The $600 checks called for in the latest relief package would represent half of the $1,200 directed toward most adults in the first round of stimulus checks. Critics had said the aid would be helpful, but not enough to tide over families who have suffered income or job losses since the coronavirus pandemic shuttered the economy last March and caused unemployment to spike.

President-elect Joe Biden is getting ready to unveil a multitrillion-dollar coronavirus rescue package that’ll include his plan for a quick, third round of “stimulus checks” for most Americans.
Biden last week promised $2,000 direct payments would “go out the door” soon if voters in Georgia gave him a Democratic majority in the U.S. Senate and they did, through a pair of runoff elections.
Over the past two weeks, many people have been receiving their second COVID relief payments in the amount of $600. That’s after an attempt to raise the amount to $2,000 failed in the closing days of 2020. Biden has referred to the $600 as a “down payment,” with more to come.

Who Gets $1400 Stimulus Checks
The House and Senate versions of the bill agreed that individual tax filers making up to $75,000 per year will get $1,400. Couples, who file jointly, making up to $150,000 will get $2,800. There will also be $1,400 tacked on for each dependent in the household.
Where they differed was how quickly the stimulus money would be phased out to zero. The original House bill passed on Feb. 27 called for the phase out to be complete at $100,000 for individuals and $200,000 for couples. But the Senate version passed on March 6 lowered it to $80,000 and $160,000, respectively. That Senate version is what the House passed on Wednesday.
Roughly 8 million fewer households will get a check under the Senate bill compared with what the House passed, according to an analysis from the Tax Policy Center.

Child Tax Credit: December End
Some families received another form of stimulus aid when the IRS in July deposited the first of six monthly cash payments into bank accounts of parents who qualify for the Child Tax Credit . Families on average received $423 in their first CTC payment, according to an analysis of Census data from the left-leaning advocacy group Economic Security Project.
Eligible families received up to $1,800 in cash through December, with the money parceled out in equal installments over the six months from July through December. The aid was due to the expanded CTC, which is part of President Joe Biden’s American Rescue Plan.
Families who qualify received $300 per month for each child under 6 and $250 for children between 6 to 17 years old. Several families that spoke to CBS MoneyWatch said the extra money would go toward child care, back-to-school supplies and other essentials.
While progressives and some Democrats urged lawmakers to continue the enhanced CTC, it appears stalled at the moment. That means families won’t receive a CTC payment in January or beyond.

Are $2000 Monthly Stimulus Checks Possible
In response to President Biden’s American Jobs Plan proposal, a group of 21 senators on March 30 sent a letter urging the inclusion of stimulus checks in the legislation. The group called for recurring payments as long as the pandemic lockdown continued, meaning people would get monthly checks from the government. No amount for the payments was specified.
We urge you to include recurring direct payments and automatic unemployment insurance extensions tied to economic conditions in your Build Back Better long-term economic plan, wrote the group, which consisted of Sen. Elizabeth Warren, D-Massachusetts, Sen. Bernie Sanders, I-Vermont, and others.

However, Rep. Ilhan Omar, D-Minnesota, tweeted earlier in January that she wanted to see $2,000 per month.
If that amount sounds familiar, it’s because now-Vice President Kamala Harris threw her support behind $2,000 recurring checks during the negotiations for the second stimulus check legislation in the summer of 2020.
The proposal has also gained plenty of support outside of Congress: Six online petitions calling for $2,000 monthly stimulus checks until the end of the pandemic have been posted. The biggest petition, on Change.org, has been signed by more than 2.8 million people and has a stated goal of reaching 3 million.

All The Stimulus Checks So Far
